Forrest Griffin Is Your New Light Heavyweight Champion
UFC July 6th. 2008, 3:53am
Don’t tell TBL that I’m jacking the site so late on a Saturday night Sunday morning, but it needs to be noted that Forrest Griffin defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson for the light heavyweight championship earlier. The fight was an instant classic as Forrest won the unanimous decision. (48-46, 48-46, 49-46)
I wish I had gone on the record as predicting a Forrest victory, but I was cautiously pessimistic about Rampage’s amazing skill set. Hopefully, we’ll get to see a rematch in 4-6 months as this fight was incredible. I would attempt to better describe the utter greatness of this fight, but my stomach was in knots during the entire bout. (I have a slight man-crush on Forrest)
Hats should be tipped to both the former and new champ as this fight ultimately lived up to the nearly non-existent hype. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go celebrate. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Oh, and Forrest again came out to this song. Further cementing it’s (and his) bad-ass-status.
Did I mention, “Yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!”? What an awesome fight (and result).

I am not gonna lie; I have not been a fan of MMA. I have always seen boxing as the more technical and more athletic of the two sports. I guess I would choose the word classier when comparing boxing to MMA. Last night’s main event changed my mind. Griffen was methodical. He came in looking focused, while Jackson seemed like he was trying too hard to look pissed-off. My buddies were telling me that Forrest is a pretty funny guy, which seemed more badass to me. I am honestly looking forward to the next big fight.

You could have scored this either way a rounds 3-5 were tough to call. I love title fights, the crowd gets into it so much. The lhw division is a total clusterf@ck now, too. Who’s next Machida? Rampage? Chuck?

What a fight… If you’re one of those stubborn “UFC is gay.. I’m not going to watch two men roll around” people, and you still aren’t sold after last night, then I don’t know what to tell you. I personally though Rampage won the fight, but then again, I could care less who owns the belts to be honest. I just like seeing the matchups. The LHW division is going to be incredible over the next year.
Can’t wait for Fedor/Sylvia and Anderson/Irvin! Wow!

They have to fight again.
I am actually a big fan of Griffin, but I thought he would be overmatched. I was wrong. Great, great fight.

Man, I’ve been watching MMA since Kimbo Slice (so I’m a bit of an expert) and that fight last night sucked. Where were all the exploding ears?

And that’s not a bad thing in this case.

Does it?

I still couldn’t believe Forrest pulled it off. It was really close according to every MMA website out there. I’m pumped though. The LHW is stacked.

What I see happening is a huge money match in the end of the year with Griffin vs Liddell if Chuck beats Rashad. I see Jackson fighting Machida/W. Silva. Not trying to hate on Forrest cuz I like the dude, but I dont see him holding the title long…..
