Elton Brand’s Not Really Leaving, Is He?
NBA July 8th. 2008, 6:19pm
Oddly, just a week after the Paper Clips acquired Baron Davis, and NBA fans wondered whether or not the Other Los Angeles team could win as many as 50 games … the buzz seems to be that Elton Brand could be on the move, possibly as soon as tomorrow.
The 76ers cleared a ton of cap room today in hopes of making a move on Brand, and he makes sense there alongside Dalembert. With him, they’re jockeying with Toronto and Orlando for homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Or does he stay in LA to play with Baron and Caveman? Or does he take $20 million more than what the Clippers are offering and jump to Golden State?
And for NBA fans, or number junkies in general, this is a damn cool site: The Arbitrarian. No idea if it’s old or new, but a friend forwarded us the link and there’s some neat stuff if you poke around.

He’d be crazy to stay for less money… cause the Clippers STILL won’t make the playoffs and then he’ll be on a mediocre team making less money.

I’d love to see him go. Screw you Baron Davis!

I bet half the selling point for Baron going to the Clips was the chance to play with Brand. Baron has been holding his breath for the past three days, non stop

I think Brand was going to go back the whole time, but these offers (Philly, G State) are surprising him

As a Sixers fan, I hope they get one of Josh Smith or Elton Brand. I guess Brand would be the better addition? But Smith is younger and has so much potential. Obviously, can’t complain about Brand, though. Not like there were better uses of the money.

There goes the Spurs chances at getting Maggette. Damn.

I guess this means Brand can leave.
I could be mistaken, but isn’t AI2 a RFA this year? Don’t they need money to resign him as well?

Iverson decided not to opt-out, so he’ll be an unrestricted Free Agent after next season going off of this.

Sorry, I meant Iguodala, I just had no idea how to spell it without looking it up.
July 8th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Oh wow, yeah, sorry, I should have known by 2 after the AI, not sure why I was thinking Iverson.
Yeah, Iguodala is a RFA, from what I’ve read, they’ll still be able to match offers for him. I’m not sure on how everything works out with the numbers and what not, but I think they’ve got the money worked out to keep him as well. I saw something the other day that the Warriors might go after Iguodala if they missed on Brand.

The 4 letter word boards are going crazy over this. Am I the only one who doesn’t see this as a major impact? I like Iguodala but they still need a shooter. Not big on dalembert, Miller is a decent PG. I could be wrong but I still don’t see Philly being that big of a threat in the East.

No player should ever take a discount. They have a short window to make a fortune and they should grab it. He can go for his ring the Karl Malone way when he is just about done.
