Fair & Balanced:
Former Clinton Aide Joins ‘Evenhanded’ Fox News Channel
That’s quite an endorsement coming from one of the Democratic party’s biggest communications mavens, and not one known for being especially soft-gloved.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:13 am
Yes, because Mr. Wolfson is the authority on fair and evenhanded coverage.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:14 am
Who cares about politics? When do the Dan vs. Dave commercials start?
July 8th, 2008 at 8:16 am
you can say fox news is fair and balanced all you want…everyone knows it isnt just like cnn isnt either. conservatives have a news channel so do liberals and thats fine just dont be phony about your intentions with some BS line like fair and balanced
July 8th, 2008 at 8:19 am
the comparisons off Fox News to CNN are laughable. Does CNN tilt a bit liberal? Sure. Tilt doesn’t begin to explain Fox News.
(Dammit why do I get drawn into this argument. It goes NOWHERE.)
So - Anyone google for the old Gena Lee Nolin sex tape?
July 8th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Guess we know where the NY Times stands? I can’t even remember the last news channel that was fair and balanced. I spent three years in Germany while I was in the army and was forced to wath a patchwork of news shows. From CNN, MSNBC and FOX. It was fucking brutal. I usually turned the channel to something european, might not have been able to understand it, but at least I wasn’t having an agenda pushed on me.
Six years in the army and all I ever heard from the news was how terrible the military had it, and all the bad things that were happening to us. I think once a year they would show one good piece about some of the good we were doing. Saddly, we were doing those things every day. Building schools, hospitals, handing out food, playing with the local kids, etc. I am not trying to diminish how hard it is on the military, but support is more important than the constant barrage of garbage they keep putting on air, since it’s vastly outweighed by the good that’s being done.

Seriously, PurdueMatt? You cannot watch the analysis and talking heads on FoxNews and come away with the perception that it’s actually “Fair nad Balanced” (or fair and evenhanded). I watch the Fox Report with Shephard Smith 4 out of 5 nights a week and the O’Reilly Factor about 3 out of 5 nights a week and I am objective enough to admit that the network more than leans conservative.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:21 am
Oh yeah…”the economy is great!”

July 8th, 2008 at 8:23 am
The Red Wings partied with Kid Rock? Fred Durst wasn’t available?
July 8th, 2008 at 8:23 am
I’ve seen Gina Lee up close and personal on several occasions in the last few years. Let’s say that the years haven’t been so kind. Botox on a mid-30’s former hottie is not the answer…
Anna is always appreciated on this end. She is a fine, fine, fine young woman.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:23 am
I hate to actually say this, but I don’t even watch Fox News or CNN anymore. Way to obvious with their agenda pushing. I do the best I can to read what I need to online or in the paper, still hard to get to the truth, but it’s more subtle in writing.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:24 am
i was hanitized when i was a fox viewer. i could sit down and take over any of those shows and not miss a beat. They had me as a believer of all that was right wing. Then i started watching Ron Paul on You Tube…changed me man, changed me.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:28 am
What is this “Fox News” you speak of?
July 8th, 2008 at 8:29 am
I can’t believe you guys fall for Purdue Matt every time.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Another Fox News argument… So played out.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:33 am
you’re certainly going to need to elaborate here. where, when, what was she wearing, etc, etc
July 8th, 2008 at 8:37 am
hey Purdue Matt, fuck you and your one political comment every morning. keep your fantasy bullshit out of here. kthxby
July 8th, 2008 at 8:38 am
benji - Why the anger?
July 8th, 2008 at 8:43 am
I have to get my one comment in for the day before the server crashes. I have nothing to say other than hello. I’ll probably see you all tomorrow morning.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:43 am
That former Viking has some serious issues. Holding a plastic bag around a kids neck deserves some serious time in jail. The fact that they dropped the felony charge is crazy to me. Prosecutors also said it was unlikely he would serve any time in jail.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:44 am
The parts of CNN that I catch don’t come off as overtly liberal, but they invent controversies and pump up stories so they have something to talk about.
I try to get my news from HuffPo. Still a liberal leaning site, but at least they don’t spend hours upon hours discussing non stories while ignoring the issues.
anyway, I’m going to miss CC looking like a giant blood clot when Cleveland wears those all red Uni’s…
July 8th, 2008 at 8:44 am
God, can we please ban anyone that ever uses “kthxby” or its variations?
Oh, and my vacation was excellent.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:45 am
its the same thing every morning with him. economy good… then reasonable people provide opposing arguments and every post turns into a political discussion. its just kind of annoying.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:45 am
its a good tuesday. Tom Petty and Steve Winwood concert tonight!!
/im gonna feel like shit tomorrow
July 8th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Stop it. I refuse to believe Huffington has an agenda to push.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:48 am
benji - This is a crazy idea I know, but you don’t have to read his posts if they bother you so much. There are a number of commenters here who I stopped reading a long time ago.
And “kthxby” makes you sound like a 15 yr old. Just saying…
July 8th, 2008 at 8:51 am
maybe i am 15 and can’t vote and come to this website for the sports chatter and not the political talk. maybe not though.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:52 am
maybe i cant wait to get drunk
July 8th, 2008 at 8:52 am
I hope I’m not on 412’s banned list. That would just kill my Tuesday.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Great article by David Whitley from the Orlando Sentinel
July 8th, 2008 at 8:55 am
25 comments and nothing on Tony Gonzalez yet? Great story, and that guy is a class act.
TBL, no reason to wake up early for the iPhone. If you want to it Friday, I’d wait until after 11 pm and just stroll into one of the Manhattan stores that are open 24 hours.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:55 am
I’m an illegal immigrant, so I can’t vote either.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:55 am
So that “google is making us dumb” article has been written about 20 times now and they are all completely wrong. Yeah, having all the worlds information available to me sure in seconds sure makes me f’n stupid.
Besides losing nearly 30% of their market value the past 8 months, there is a lot of chatter in tech circles that google isn’t really capable of challenging MS in the corporate world. There are complaints of no career path, poor management, horrible internal politics. Lots of high profile employees who left MS/YaHoo for Goog are going back and many new grads who have offers from goog are going elsewhere, which didn’t happen two years ago.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:57 am
You didn’t know about the delay of the Final Table at the WSOP???
where have you been, TBL?
oh, and in my best Shanoff impersonation: worst. idea. ever.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:57 am
like hell!! actually spent some money yesterday paying a professional to fix the ‘optimize the mother f’er.’ These bastards charge like a lawyer does.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:59 am
TBL, it’s kind of your own fault. Your commenters have practically been begging to give you server money. One paypal link and Billy Wagner becomes Dennis Eckersley.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:00 am
Loosely translated: CLICK THE FUCKING ADS, YOU ASSHOLES.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:00 am
my best Shanoff impersonation: “You look really good today Will. Can I wash your car?”
July 8th, 2008 at 9:01 am
just for the sake of the site, i clicked all of the ads like 16 times
July 8th, 2008 at 9:01 am
25 comments and nothing on Tony Gonzalez yet?
he was good at basketball
July 8th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Blazers - I went a few weeks ago when they were in Pgh. Admittedly, I drank in the parking lot through Steve Winwood, but TP was sweet. They just basically blazed through all the hits with a cover or 2 mixed in. My only disappointment was they didn’t play the new Mudcrutch song.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:02 am
… and they probably bill the time they spend commenting on blogs, too.
what? that’s just me?
July 8th, 2008 at 9:02 am
Roeth-
Awesome! I heard it was a great show. And yes, I love Steve Winwood. Does that make me a loser? maybe.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:03 am
I love how O’Reilly plays the whole “I’m an independant” card, but look at people who have filled in for him. Laura Ingraham, John Kasich, Tony Snow (back in the day),
evgenyMichelle Malkin. Where are the Libs?I actually do find O’Reilly somewhat entertaining. I think he does have a few good ideas here and there. But his producer ambushes are an embarrassment, especially after Olbermann showed the real tape from an ambush a month ago at a Liberal convention, not just the edited version.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Fox News will never redeem itself for its reporting during the lead-up to Iraq; they constantly convinced their audience that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and that Iraq was on the door step to having a nuke.
I still like Brit Hume though… can’t believe he allows the hackiness that goes at that network, but I guess we’re all whores on some level.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Van Halen comes to town and I’m in Clearwater for my anniversary. The Eagles come to town in 2 weeks and I’ve got to take the wife to The Lion King. She’s killing my concert schedule.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:12 am
Im trying to get tickets to see Springsteen at the Meadowlands. Never been to NY/NJ. Could be a fun trip if I can pull it off
July 8th, 2008 at 9:14 am
@blazers: Springsteen in Jersey would be badass indeed!
July 8th, 2008 at 9:20 am
@Irish: You liked the Whitley article?
I found it a little heavy on the God and on sort of googly-eyed predictions. I enjoy Whitley more than Bianchi (usually) but not in the major doses the Sentinel’s been giving recently.
Congrats to him and his wife for becoming parents, though, and for giving an adopted child a home from birth.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:20 am
I prefer the sports chatter as well. The political “discussions” are usually the same people (and I know I’m one of them) saying the same things. Political discussion is better left to other forums. Arguing politics in a sports blog is kind of silly. Nevertheless, it is done here, so telling people to “fuck off” is sort of an undesirable behavior.
Really, the sports chat is somewhat lacking as well, as the sports blogs are increasingly attracting the commenters who bring nothing to the table other than commenting on…other commenters. That’s not to paint all with the same broad brush, as I do enjoy a number of people here and elsewhere. Still, “commenter nation” is grating and, I think, leading a good many people back to traditional sports media where people who actually have journalistic credentials practice.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:22 am
July 8th, 2008 at 9:22 am
“Commenter nation,” 412? Do go on.
I enjoy cracking on and being cracked on, and it’s the sort of discussion I think you’d have in a bar with a bunch of sports fans. I read both TBL and Deadspin regularly, and comment both places, and I go there because, with the right people, it’s a family reunion, and here because, pretty much always, it’s a sports bar feel.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:25 am
I go there because, with the right people, it’s a family reunion, and here because, pretty much always, it’s a sports bar feel.
That’s a damned good way of putting it Rockabye…
July 8th, 2008 at 9:27 am
It’s a sports bar where people tell each other to fuck off if they disagree with them. Nice.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:30 am
What does Steve Winwood even sing other then Life is a Highway?
July 8th, 2008 at 9:34 am
I think we could maybe do without that, yes.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:43 am
indeed. he was great at Cal. Good team that had that year
July 8th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Very interesting article on google.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:46 am
TBL spends money to fix Billy Wagner, and Billy Wagner holds on for save number 20 last night. Coincidence?
And BTW, nice job getting save 20 last night. Billy damn near shit the bed once again.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:46 am
412 - Feeling a little irregular the past few days? Ian Snell getting you down?
July 8th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Fuck off!
July 8th, 2008 at 9:48 am
TBL, thanks for fixing whatever the fuck was wrong, yesterday was brutal.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:52 am
It’s a sports bar where people call each other dumb sluts if they disagree with them. Nice.
We all have our more irate moments on the internets… only LeBron can be perfect.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Ian Snell, Tom Gorzelanny, Zach Duke, John Van Benschoten, Brian Bullington…. Oh yeah, all of the “future greats” pitching in the Pirates organization are killing me. It’s so bad that I actually was saying nice things about Bert Blyleven here the other day.
July 8th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Tony Gonzalez’s wife > Brody Croyle’s girl
July 8th, 2008 at 10:00 am
This is true.
July 8th, 2008 at 10:02 am
412…well said up above.
July 8th, 2008 at 10:03 am
C’mon, who isn’t a fan of seeing 500 fixed jokes in one day?
July 8th, 2008 at 10:04 am
+1 spence… what’s this post about?
July 8th, 2008 at 10:05 am
who bring nothing to the table other than commenting on…other commenters.
i brought that up a long time ago
July 8th, 2008 at 10:06 am
Anyone in Chicago want to go see Snoop Dogg in Tinley Park? I’ve got 4 VIP tickets and 2 VIP parking passes.
July 8th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Sportsgal, email me - I’d like to go.
July 8th, 2008 at 10:40 am
TBL -
Hulse spent a rather uninspiring year in Columbus with the Blue Jackets. My season tix are directly in front of the players wives, where Gina Lee occasionally made an appearance.
From the neck down, ridiculously good. Fro the neck up, not so much. She looked rather used up for my tastes. There was better looking talent from other wives/girlfriends (including the random multiples of Russian women coming to see Fedorov) in that area.
Of course, Sergei has to hang with multiples now just to get in the same stratosphere as he was in during the mid-90’s. How do you get better than a 17 year old Kournikova? Sergei is likely still seeing a professional after that ended…badly…
July 8th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Olbermann had something to say about O’Reilly? How did I miss that?
July 8th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Sportsgirl, I’ll go but we have to talk about Opie and Anthony
July 8th, 2008 at 11:32 am
No no, cursed, you can have all the tickets. Then maybe you can call into O & A and turn it into a really hilarious story. By really hilarious I mean not at all funny.
