Is Today James Posey Signing Day?
Douchy Agents, NBA July 10th. 2008, 11:55am
Somebody’s lying: The Clippers or Elton Brand’s smarmy agent, David Falk. Sayeth Flak: The Clippers low-balled his client with a take-it-or-leave-it offer of 5-years, $70 mil. Sayeth Paper Clips coach Mike Dunleavy: We raised it from 70 to 75 and then 81. A bit surprised you guys don’t think the 76ers will be very good next season. In an attempt to save face, the Other LA Team is putting the full court press on Josh Smith, but might just be the bridesmaid because the Hawks can match any offer.
A James Posey decision seems imminent. Too many teams to list are still in the mix, but he’d be a terrific fit in Cleveland – veteran with championship experience, pesky (and overaggressive) defender who would guard the team’s best player (which means more rest for LeBron), and a nice compliment at the arc with Daniel Gibson. If rookie JJ Hickson can contribute anything inside, and the Cavs get Posey, we’l pick them in the East.
Sorry for not writing about Corey Maggette’s signing in Golden State, but unless the Warriors attempt to plug him in at SG, they now have two players with the same-ish skill set playing SF – Maggette and Stephen Jackson. Just don’t see how this makes the Warriors any better. Sure, they’re ridiculously athletic, but can they rebound and defend?

We’re really holding our breaths for where James Posey is going to sign?
CRM is not amused.
July 10th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Rebound? Defend? How’s that important?
Signed,
The 2007-08 Denver Nuggets
July 10th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Are the Sixers getting new jerseys or something?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
sure youre a great chef, but can you farm?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
The jersey’s look like the clipper jersey from that picture. Either the 76ers are entirely lazy and just used his old clippers jersey or they’re just trying to turn the knife a little more and remind LA how sorry of a franchise they are by having Brand run around in the same colors!
July 10th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Is Robert Horry still playing? He and James Posey could sign with the Washington Generals and start a dynasty!
July 10th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Xavier sucks
July 10th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
+1 moleman
July 10th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
It looks like their retro jerseys they wore when Barkley played there.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I think James Posey would be a great signing for any team. It isn’t all about superstars, role players play a huge part too.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Don’t give him the full midlevel, Clev.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
TBL – When he finally signs, can you make your headline says something like “Pockets full for Posey” or something? I like gay headlines. Thanks.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
@cbh49er – I hear they’re still making new jerseys with the leftover fabric they had from the year Barkley was traded.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
@1 Happy St – I’d prefer “BLANK stamps ticket to Finals”
July 10th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
James Posey is the anti-Janero-Pargo in my eyes.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
If the Warriors or Sixers signed Posey they’s go to the finals, he’s the final piece for anybody
July 10th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Cavs do not need another role player so Posey signing is not a terrific fit. I do not know how or when they can accomplish it, but they need to package all of their expiring contracts, and obtain a legitimate 2nd option behind Lebron.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Fuentes is getting rocked…
July 10th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
TBL, are you doing a post on what the reviews on the new phone are saying today??? Or at least reading them?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
@CRM – You couldn’t combine those three into one comment? Sheesh.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
@slc: Sure. But that’s easier said than done.
The problem with calling Posey a role player is that he’d step in and be our second best player immediately.
The Cavs roster is a fucking joke and only gets worse as Z ages.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
“lebron is a joke of a player, he couldn’t hold dwight howard’s baby momma’s panties. the cavs suck, and will be lucky to win 10 games this year. did i mention dwight howard? i should have? dwight howard.”

MikeNYC – You were correct in thinking this picture looked somewhat photoshopped.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
A couple of James Posey quotes to look forward to though:
“I’m happy to be coming to Cleveland. This gives me twice as many opportunities to put a Bulls player on IR.”
“I’m happy to be coming to Cleveland. I’ve never been the 2nd best player on my team before.”
July 10th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Elton Brand came on a local LA radio show and said they asked for something that didn’t involve more money and were turned down. He also said that the Clippers didn’t give him any deals, Miami made the previous one, and Golden State/Philly made this one. They just attempted to match. It was a matter of respect. They also wouldn’t let him talk to Sterling.
As for Posey, I’m getting a little concerned that he’s becoming a bit overrated now
July 10th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
WhoDey – Sorry. I’ll do a live-blog of my thoughts and post at the end of the thread next time.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Nick P. I agree, I know it is not easy, and not even sure it can be accomplished, but finding that legitimate second option and getting rid of Mike Brown are the two true necessary moves. Unfortunately, neither one will probably happen.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Why didn’t Cleveland go after Maggette? Still burned after Hughes?
July 10th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
@Mak: Cavs just have the midlevel. Maggette got 40% more than that.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
slc finding the second option prolly will have to wait until the trade deadline
July 10th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Maggette wanted the $10 mil a year. I don’t think many other teams could match that
July 10th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
See here.
Yeah, 412 — I saw that. Shocking, really.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
So, with no money, how are the Cavs supposed to sign a decent #2 option for Lebron? Hell, even Bogut makes $14 mil a year.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
well said Spencer.
we’l pick them in the East
you will pick them anyway
July 10th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
expiring deals at the deadline or S&T now i would imagine
July 10th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
there were two in the roundup
Posey is the new Horry
July 10th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Does anyone else think that Posey would be a great pick up for the Lakers? Toughness, defense, and consistent 3 point shooting. They need that.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
He would be but Ron Artest would be better, reports are they are still trying to figure out a way to get him.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Kobe does all that shit better than anyone. Except when, you know, it matters.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
TBL, so he’s a cheapshot artist? I kid, I kid
July 10th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
I like Posey with the Lakers more than Artest. Artest would come in play nice for a few weeks then try to take over.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Owl, the Lakers have too many “role players” at the 3. They have Ariza, Walton, Newble, and sliding Odom over to the spot as well
July 10th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
any team with horry as their second best player probably isnt going to win a title these days
July 10th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Posey is the new Horry
lol. I swear, Jeff Van Gundy has took over these basketball posts
July 10th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Artest and Kobe are friends, Artest would know his role, he takes pride in his defense, not his scoring, but the bonus with him is he is a good scorer.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Love the Mitch Hedberg quote…my away message right now, in fact, is
ordered a chicken sandwich but I think the waitress mis-understood me because she said, “How would you like your eggs?” So I tried to answer her anyhow. I said “Incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked and then cut up then put onto a grill then put onto a bun. Shit, it’s gonna take awhile. I don’t have time, scrambled!”
July 10th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Newble’s “role” is suck.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
The Cavs roster is a fucking jokeBiggest myth out there right now in the NBA. Offensively, yet, Nick might have a point. Problem is, we just a great offense do nothing in the NBA finals while the team with the great defense and rebounding (Cavs), took the same Celts to 7 with their star player struggling offensively throughout the series.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Posey would be a huge addition to a team like the Lakers, but not so much to a team like the Cavaliers.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
You guys are making Paul Shirley extremely angry right now.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Phil Jackson will be studying Mike Brown’s gametapes this off-season.
July 10th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
looks like the Dr.J era jerseys
