Is This the Year the Colts Take a Step Back?
NFL July 11th. 2008, 1:55pm
Gulp. We know Tony Dungy is brilliant, and Peyton Manning is so precise it’s scary … but here goes:
* Marvin Harrison? Besides his yet-to-be-resolved Wyatt Earp moment from the Spring, he turns 36 next month.
* Chargers 28, Colts 24, in AFC playoffs, Jan. 2008.
* Indy has the second most challenging schedule in the NFL this season (1st is Pittsburgh). Of the eight road games, none of the opponents had a losing record last year (Houston and Minnesota were .500).
* There is only one gimmie in weeks 7-13, and that’s Houston, a team that oddly plays the Colts close.
But 9-7 for the Colts may miss the playoffs (Pats, Steelers, Browns, Titans, Chargers, Jags). And yes, we’re aware that the Colts were 13-3 last season with Freeney and Harrison missing a large chunk of games. This is a projection based on a daunting schedule and, we feel, the heir of invincibility that disappeared when the Chargers won that playoff game in the Dome. This is certainly not a THE COLTS ARE DEAD! PEYTON IS WASHED UP! DUNGY SHOULD HAVE RETIRED! post.
But we didn’t feel like picking the Favre-less Packers was risky, and even though the Giants were kind of a fluky Super Bowl champ and that division is brutal, a fall for them seems likely. Pittsburgh was actually our backup choice to slide, but we thought the Steelers drafted well and that offense might be the best Big Ben’s had to work with. Plus, the Bengals and Ravens could mean four easy wins, while the Colts have no such luck in the challenging division AFC South.

All I read is TBL said “…THE COLTS ARE DEAD! PEYTON IS WASHED UP! DUNGY SHOULD HAVE RETIRED!”
Get ready for some angry Hoosiers
July 11th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
The Texans reach the playoffs before the Browns.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY hope that this is the year they take that step back.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
really?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Reggie Wayne is the new Marvin Harrison. Marvin Harrison is the new Isaac Bruce
July 11th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
@Battlin’ Billy: I totally agree, as a Bengals fan stuck living in Indy.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
i dont understand why the Bengals and Ravens are automatic wins for the steelers. i could see the ravens in particular, beating the steelers both times because Ryan can just blitz like crazy knowing PIT couldn’t stop it.
Colts won’t slide; they’re too good, scheme is too good, plus QB’s win in the NFL and the Colts have the best (yes, better than brady).
July 11th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
@Rex: really.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
A step back for the Colts means a step up for the Ravens….
On Madden 09′.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
RWH’s head is spinning
July 11th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Colts missing the playoffs? is Jim Sorgi the new QB?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
clown…that’s hysterical.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
This is the season where we finally find out that Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn both suck.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
If the heir of invincibility disappeared, who will inherit it now?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Indy’s schedule:
Sep 7 Chicago W
Sep 14 at Minnesota W (Minny has good D, but there’s no way they can score as many points as Indy, even with Purple Jesus)
Sep 21 Jacksonville W (giving them the W since it’s a home game)
Oct 5 at Houston W
Oct 12 Baltimore W (Baltimore is going to be one of the worst teams in the league this year)
Oct 19 at Green Bay W (fuck the Packers)
Oct 27 at Tennessee W
Nov 2 New England L
Nov 9 at Pittsburgh L
Nov 16 Houston W
Nov 23 at San Diego L
Nov 30 at Cleveland W
Dec 7 Cincinnati W
Dec 14 Detroit W
Dec 18 at Jacksonville L
Dec 28 Tennessee W
12-4 they make the playoffs
July 11th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I’m telling you Spence, this year the Browns will stink worse than that time Joe Thomas put you in his Dutch Oven.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
I don’t like Sportsgal when she comes out with stuff like this. Keep your ‘logic’ in the other threads.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
clown…that was the best moment of my life.
browns will win the AFC North.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
I have the Colts going 10-6 finishing tied with the Texans for second behind the 11-5 Jaguars.
The Texans are my sleeper team this year, they won’t be an easy win.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
I respectfully disagree. With Peyton Manning, Addai, Wayne, Clark, Bob Sanders, and Dwight Freeney healthy….they will be just fine.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I think the entire AFC North besides Pittsburgh will have no more than 5 wins, call me crazy.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
How old is Jamal Lewis now? 42? He’s like 70 in prison years.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
They’re 18-14 the last 2 years. Can you really slide from mediocrity?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
And the Pats have the easiest schedule in the league.
/I know you’re all haters, but that one fact is the only thing getting me excited for football again after the Super Bowl.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Since we’re making predictions, I think Peyton Manning has a season ending injury, and the Colts go 3-13
July 11th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
what the hell is with all the texans kool aid? they still have an O-line that BLOWS. they have 3 good defenders. what am i missing here?
mario is a beast, okoye will rock, demeco is a stud and andre johnson is the 3rd best WR in the NFL…but they still don’t have an RB or anyone who can cover or block.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Keep picking the Texans and the Cardinals as your sleepers. Let me know how that works out for you.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
New Stadium, same offense, a healthy Sanders, sure dont see the Colts taking a step back.
Their schedule last year was rated 5th toughest.
Jville will be a tough division opponent, and the road games at Pitt, SD will be good match-ups.
13-3
July 11th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
29 and running behind the best O-line in the NFL with a passing attack that demands respect. age is not an issue with a balanced offense and a BEAST line.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Colts go 12-4.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
The Detroit Lions are my sleeper.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Ohhhhh, see, TBL didn’t take into account the new stadium.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Who’s going to win the division? Jacksonville?
Now that’s funny.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Sportsgal, the Cardinals comment I get but when has anyone picked the Texans as a sleeper?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Before this year of course.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Keep smokin Spence, maybe the Browns should try beating the Steelers, oh, once before you start talking AFC north champs. Browns will finish sub-500 with Quinn playing by Nov.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Please don’t anyone put $ on the Steelers. I hope I’m wrong but, with that offensive line, Roethlisberger is going to wake up the morning after game day feeling as though he got hit by the fucking Lincoln Town Car again. Not good times…
July 11th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
The AFC East is playing the NFC West? Good god. These are the two worst conferences in the league!
July 11th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Hilarious. Always is, always will be.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
agreed…
playoff team, sure. but silky garrard is still their QB, and the game he throws more than one pass farther than 20 yards downfield will be his first. sick D tho.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Look for the Niners to pull off the upset and beat New England!
July 11th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
well the first angry Hoosier is here. So let me get this straight, we had the most depleted team in the NFL. Last year and still won 13 games and what you’re trying to tell me is that with a healthy roster, a RB poised to have a 1500 yard season, another year of experience for manning blind-side protector Ugoh, a team looking to send their coach of into the sunset-you’re trying to tell me they’re going to miss the playoffs. Hahahaha maybe I’m being arrogant but I’ve heard this from jags fans for the last 3 years so now it just sounds like bitterness from other team fans to me. Sorry, but I refuse to take this post seriously.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
no talk of the Titans being in? im not a fan of the VY era
July 11th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
SG meant divisions.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
@ butlerboy, simmer down. TBL forgot about the new stadium. Changed his whole outlook.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Irish, shhh… we don’t want people noticing how good the Titans be this year.
VY will be fine.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I think the Pats miss the playoffs before the Colts do
July 11th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
coop…ill keep smokin, and ill give you the point the browns havent done shit against the steelers so far. but the steelers do have SEAN MAHAN and no faneca trying to block shaun rogers and corey williams.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
@august- you know why i dont like the titans
July 11th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Titans go 6-10, book it.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Which game will be more boring, the 49ers at Miami or the Jets at Arizona?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I’ve been waiting for the Colts to take a step back for years, hasn’t happened yet. Thought those playoffs chokes would haunt them, never has.
Besides, I have no faith that Jax/Ten can overtake them, good teams, not ready to beat out Peyton. VY and Garrard have shown flashes but I’m still not sure either one will ever be better than average.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
irish, Jeff Fisher and that awesome mustache could take the Dolphins to the playoffs. He’s that badass.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Chiefs go 4-12 because fans can’t cheer like other teams.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Titans get at least 9 wins, book it. Great D, Great O-Line and deep running game… our biggest pick-up this off-season was an Offensive coordinator who knows how to coach in the NFL. ‘Dinger will make VY a stud in this league.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
And yes, I meant divisions.
Now THAT is a dumb statement, especially since it came after I pointed out the Patroits are playing the NFC West this year.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Quite literally the worst QB in the league. I wouldn’t be a fan either.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
the best offensive player on the titans is rod bironas.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Hm… Simmons is out for 10 weeks and returning for the start of the NFL. How many readers will that break cost him?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Patriots are winning the Super Bowl and Jets/Arizona will be more boring.
Niners/Dolphins will be a classic.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
The colts will not win at Minnesota.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
This is sheer lunacy only because of the divisions. Tom Brady could miss the whole season and the Pats could still win the division.
/I’m exaggerating of course, but not that much
July 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
July 11th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
@ruckmaker - People still read Bill Simmons?
@Mike NYC - Rex Grossman would like a word with you.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Titans will finish last in the south this season…colts will take a step back in the division…but only because the jags are going 13-3 and winning it
July 11th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Buffalo Bills are taking back the AFC East
July 11th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Oh yeah, that’s a classic Super Bowl XIX rematch
July 11th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Titans will finish last in the south this season
Only way this happens is if the team plane crashes in the Rockies.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
hell, you take Brady off the Pats and replace him with Cassel, and the Pats still probably have the best QB in the divison.
J.E.T.S. suck suck suck.
/creative i know, but i hate the jets
July 11th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
August then the plane will crash.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
@butlerboy - Well said.
TBL says that the playoff loss to the Chargers will hurt their confidence this year, but I don’t buy it. They responded pretty well in the season following their choke job to the Steelers.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
J.E.T.S. suck suck suck.
agree. Chad Pennington is the new Drew Bledson. Statue of Liberty back there, fucking stiff
July 11th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Well yeah… I mean, they’d struggle to replace the entire roster mid-season in that case.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Pennington can be a stiff on the bench this year, Clemons is the starter.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Haha, +1 August.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
irish…you give pennington too much credit. at least bledsoe could throw the ball more than 15 yards downfield, my sister can throw farther than chad.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Mike NYC, I definitely literally think that you are wrong.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
1 - jags 13-3
2 colts 12-4
3 texans 8-8
4 titans 7-9
July 11th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Spencer’s sister is an even better receiver.
zing!
July 11th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Will the new stadium have artificial noise too? That’s the important factor here.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
People who are killing VY already are idiots; lots of QBs struggle in their first 2 years, Chow sucked and our WRs will be studs… once they make it down to the arena league where most of them belong.
He’s a winner, you’ll see.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
412…make fun of me all you want, just stay away from the family.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Somebody has a good memory.
What starting QB is worse than Vince, though? Full-time starter.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
August…but the problem is theyre not in the arena league, theyre playing for the Titans.
in all honesty, McCareins was a good pickup and Gage has talent. maybe this is the year mike williams turns it around…who knows?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:45 pm

July 11th, 2008 at 2:45 pm

July 11th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
What starting QB is worse than Vince, though? Full-time starter.
Trent Edwards/JP losman
July 11th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Id put him and Jackson on an even level of suck
July 11th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Mike Williams turns what around? The car in the drive thru at McDonalds?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Derek “I will be exposed” Anderson
July 11th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Alex Smith
July 11th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
He’s bad, but … check his last seven games. Showed improvement.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Alex Smith would like to throw his hat into the ring. And it slips out of his hands. That’s a fumble.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
What starting QB is worse than Vince, though?
Anyone the Ravens throw out there.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Akili Smith
July 11th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Again, Rex Grossman would like a word with you. As would Alex Smith, Brody Croyle, Josh McCown and J.P. Losman
July 11th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Spence, look out for Brein Ealy. Dinger’s specialty is coaching-up WRs (he made Drew Bennett and Derrick Mason studs last time he was here), as well as QBs, so that’ll be a huge help.
You guys have no idea how bad Chow was in TN. Terrible play caller as well…
July 11th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
nicely played.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
+ π sportsgal
July 11th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Cleo Lemon would respond, but I think he fell off the face of the earth.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
July 11th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Easy to call terrible plays when you have a terrible qb
July 11th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Is that Charges or Chargers, TBL. Or are you saying the Colts can’t even beat Visa or Mastercard?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Did I just get a plus Pi? Whoa. I didn’t even know those were possible!
July 11th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
august…what, you didn’t like the “give the ball to reggie bush, oops i forgot, we don’t have reggie bush” offense?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Bwah ha ha ha ha! They can’t if they’re in your dog’s name.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
SG, I like to reward especially good and timely comments with irrational numbers.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Losman doesn’t start (and is better anyway), Grossman is better, too. Croyle has played like eight games, that’s up for debate. McCown is about even.
I’ll give you Alex Smith, though.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Grossman is better
Rex Grossman’s mom would laugh at that statement.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Damn straight. Worst number 1 overall pick ever.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Kyle Orton is better than Rexy
July 11th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Mike, I’m a Bears fan. I would KILL to have VY as my quarterback, that’s how horrible Rex Grossman is. At least Vince has the ability to run with the ball outside the pocket.
@August - Can I get a plus Avogadros number next time?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Spencer - Of course I meant no disrespect to my anonymous internet cohort’s anonymous sister. To make it up to you–and your family–I want to send this link to an exam that may have been written by a cousin of yours(?). It’s refrigerator material, regardless.
Have a nice weekend…
July 11th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
No, most notably I didn’t like the ‘do not let VY run the ball when things break down’… how retarded is that!? It’d be like making Tomlinson skip gingerly though the hole instead of running.
Also, almost no play-action (despite having a very good running game), and not enough shotgun until VY got a nagging leg injury later in the year) and insanely predictable red-zone play calling.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
412…all is forgiven, that was hysterical.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Wasn’t Ryan Leaf #1 overall? I think we should defer to him at least while Smith is still in the league.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
So weed brings people together
Cue sappy the More You Know music.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
peyton was 1, leaf was 2.
courtney brown was the worst #1.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
SG, If I find a way, you damned straight I will.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
@St. Bear - Seriously? This Guy was #1 the year Leaf was #2. I’ll write that off as a friday brain fart.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
+e, sportsgal and August
July 11th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
The week 2 game against Minny, won’t be a high scoring game. The Vike’s D is very very similar to a Jags team that consistently plays well against the Colts.
T-Jack will be better this year. Last year was hist first full season in the NFL and I think that since we have added another receiver, they will definitely be able to spread the field and let PJ, AND CT run all over teams. People forget about Taylor. This guy had 1000 yards rushing as well.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Oh and SG, You really think the Colts beat minny but then lose to Pitt? WTF!
July 11th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Last time I post something without Googling first.
/God, I can’t wait to get out of here and go on vacation next week.

July 11th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
St. Bear, right there with you buddy.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Beautiful Cape Cod. Nothing but the beach and golf for a week.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
clown…couch was better than david carr. but regardless, any no. 1 QB who goes to an expansion team gets a free pass.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Yeah, but your sister probably never had a torn labrum in her throwing shoulder.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
PKI, you’re a blatant Minnesota homer and can’t see that your team consists of one offensive play maker and an above average defense. The colts have the one of the best offenses (QB, WR, RB and TE > RB) in the league and a decent defense. Do the math.
I gave the Colts a loss to Pitt on the road because it’s their second road game in a row and Pittsburgh has a good home record. The Colts have a good shot at winning that game as well.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
@August - I’m impressed you actually got the superscript to work; no idea how you do that.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
PIT will beat the colts because good 3-4 defenses destroy zone blocking and make it harder to do at the line adjustments.
Battlin’…true story. but he’s still and NFL QB, which means he has to throw. could be time to carry a clipboard or start coachin’.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Much love for the special characters on the Mac keyboard.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
SG, I am a total homer. The last time I was this excited about the Vikings, they had Culpepper, Moss, Carter, and Robert Smith.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Only way the colts slide is if Peyton goes down for the year or half the o-line goes on injuries, Peyton is too good and Indy drafts too well on both sides for them to slide, even after all those injuries last year and still going 13-3, I got to give them the benefit of the doubt, though the AFC South is stacked.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
@sprotsgal. I agree that the vikings only have one playmaker, but their offensive line is a beast which helps a lot. If they could ever get a gd reviever that can actually catch their offense would make leaps and bounds. That and a decent QB. I just don’t see t jack getting a whole lot better. I’ve been watching him for the past 4 seasons and haven’t seen a whole lot of improvement.
But hey, at least we have a QB at Arkansas named Dick, and the future QB for the vikings is names Booty. That has to be worth something.

July 11th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
+NA for clown.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
My Fam’s originally from Chicago and I still remember vividly how many friends and family were clamoring for Rex Grossman when Orton was starting. Man, how time passes so quickly ( Still a sore subject with my father to this day)
July 11th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
subscript didn’t work, clown
-NA for clown.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
@moleman: who? The Bills?
July 11th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
no idea, just making shit up on that part
but i really dont think the browns will make the playoffs, dont get why people seem to forget anderson tanked the last part of the season.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Well, unless you have alzheimer’s it’s really hard NOT to “vividly remember” that time. It was three years ago.
People were clamoring for Rex during the Orton era because he can throw more than 10 yards. If he’s in the pocket. And the defense isn’t pressuring him. And it’s the first quarter.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Hmm, first time I’ve ever been burned by Wikipedia. Fuck ‘em.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Browns are going 5-11
\Awaits Spencer’s wrath

It’s possible that a team like Buffalo or Denver could get the 2nd wilcard in the AFC. They’re in terrible divisions and like SG said, they’re playing another terrible division. That’s 6-7 victories right there.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
id feel better about those two if they had decent quarterbacks
July 11th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
The wildcard team is coming from the AFC South. It will be either the Jags or the Colts. St. Bear, who are you kidding, the Bills and Broncos suck.
/sorry Irish, nothing against the Bills
July 11th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
True, but you could say that about half the league.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
last i checked there were two wildcard spots
July 11th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Michigan sucks.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
oh i know, a big reason as to why i believe the nfl is a shell of what it was in the nineties. as a dolphins fan, its even more evident. if they dont win three games this year, im done.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Both wildcard teams are coming from the AFC South… again.
/hell yeah’d
July 11th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
I’m with StBear, AFC south will beat itself up, Bills could absolutely make the playoffs. Had they not choked away that Cowboys game last year they would have been in. Pozluzny will be back to anchor the D.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
SG, there are 2 wildcard teams. Jags/Colts are one, and who’s the other? It’s entirely possible that Cleveland/Cinci/Pitt trade victories at home which leaves the door open for the scenerio I gave earlier.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
/sorry Irish, nothing against the Bills
last time i tell you to get a free slurpee. Hope you got a brain freeze
July 11th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
see, this is why im here, to tell you why that’s a myth.
cardinals - 304 yards, 2 td 2 int - bad? id say B-/B but not awful
jets - 185 yards, 2 td, 1 int - average at best, not great, but the running game was tore them apart
bills - lets see you try and throw in a blizzard
cincy - lets see you try and throw in 40 mph winds
SF - 11/20, 152 1td/1int - not bad, but didnt need to do too much
just because the browns offense got A LOT more balanced in the last 6 games (where jamal lewis ran for over 100 yards 5 times out 6) doesnt mean that DA played a lot worse.

@ irish - “THERE ARE NO… FLAGS… ON THE FIELD!”
July 11th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Indianapolis and Houston will get wild card births
July 11th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
That dude is a beast. I’m liking the Bills chances … but their ability to move the ball down the field scares the hell out of me.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Damn all of you and your free slurpies. I’m about to start drinking beers at the office.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
@SG I didn’t want to call attention to my ADD but when your right your right… a better term to use would of been “how passionately”
That being said, good or bad, at least your team sticks behind their qb’s. I’m a Bucs fan and all I’ve taken hits of the last 2 years is the number of qb’s we keep on roster. ( Don’t ask how a family full of Bears fans has a person who grew up at TB Bucs fan, life if full of mysteries)

@ irish - “THERE ARE NO… FLAGS… ON THE FIELD!â€
haha Kfc. F Frank Wycheck
July 11th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
gimme the ball!
i wanted miami to draft quinn, im still bitter about that and always will be, i still think he is the starter in cleveland come the end of this year
July 11th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
um…you’re wrong? best O-line in the NFL, 3rd best 3-4 D-line (behind NE and SD), braylon and k2…that’s a pretty decent team.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Sorry, I realize there are two wild card teams, was making an assumption the Browns and Pitt were in from the north based on what TBL said in his post.
Irish, I would love nothing more than to see the Bills take the East from the Patriots. Also, the two 7-11’s by my place aren’t doing free slurpees because there’s a home Cubs game.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
i dont think they go 5-11, 7-9 at worst. think theyll be damn good soon, but not this year.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Spencer, that was weak. It’s more because of their schedule that I think they will struggle. The AFC North is going to get owned by the NFC East.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Problem with the Browns is they played an unbelievably easy sked last year and still couldn’t make the playoffs. This year the AFC North gets matched up with the NFC East and AFC South, probably the two best divisions in football.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
I’d say the Browns go 8-8 and miss the playoffs.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
NFC East is overrated. cowboys are elite, Giants are overrated, Eagles blow and skins aer adapting to a drastically different offense and aren’t that good to begin with. just because they’re all major markets and get a ton of hype doesnt mean theyre good.
coop…sure they have a hard schedule but so does the rest of the AFC North. there will only be one spot coming out of the north, but it’s too early to know which team, every AFC North team has MAJOR holes.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Seconded.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
The NFC East is correctly rated, as the best division in football
July 11th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Exactly, no wild card out of the north, hell 9-7 and tiebreakers might win that division. Since the browns can’t beat the steelers, hello tiebreaker.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
if alan smith and polamalu can stay healthy, and either mendenhall or sweed contributes, i dont see the steelers losing that division
July 11th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
AFC South ≥ NFC East
July 11th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
and by alan i mean aaron
what the fuck
July 11th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Browns have 8-8 written all over them
July 11th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
we’ll see, won’t we?
seriously, im sick of speculation, the season needs to start already. and training camp? what the fuck? seriously, just get to the fucking games already.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
yea, steelers D-line depth is an issue. if any of their big 3 up front go down, they have nobody back there.
id kill for their LB depth tho.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Yep. Those are 1, 2. Then … AFCN, NFCN, AFCE, NFCS, AFCW, NFCW.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Coop, your right, at 9-7 Steelers are going to take the division. I love speculating right now, no one can honestly tell me I am wrong.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
AFC North is the third best division? You’re joking right?
July 11th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Amen to that. I just counted, 7 weeks until college, 8 until pros. That seems too far away.
July 11th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
first preseason liverpool game is tomorrow, everyones pumped right?
July 11th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
wow, ive got some reading to catch up on ….
July 11th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
From best to worst:
AFC South
NFC East
AFC North
NFC North
AFC West
NFC South
AFC East
NFC West
July 11th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
WOOOOOOOOOOOO HELL YEAH GO JAGS. i know homer post, so shoot me. also the texans will make the playoffs before the browns, although the browns offense is sick nasty.
July 11th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Wait…the Texans, “a team that oddly plays the Colts close,” is a gimme? Jesus, if you are going to talk out of your ass and write posts that border on retarded, at least try to be logically consistent.
July 12th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
@Spencer0096: They gave up 24 sacks last year. Total. And they blocked for Ron effin’ Dayne to the tune of 4.1 ypc.
Yeah, they are awful.
July 12th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Sorry…22 sacks. Do you actually watch football?
