Posey Gets Paid, Paul and Peja Get a Defender
NBA July 17th. 2008, 12:00pm
James Posey – stellar defender, 3-point jacker and apparently, the kind of guy who likes to give himself a champagne facial – has inked a lucrative 4-year, $25 million deal with the Hornets. Just yesterday, we were dubious about the chances of New Orleans duplicating its 56-win season this winter … and Posey’s just the right piece to help.
Champs? It’s not out of the realm. This much is certain: In game seven of the conference semis, Manu went for 26 points and got to the line 11 times against a variety of mediocre defenders. The Spurs stole the series in the Hive. In the rematch next postseason, Posey will be in Manu’s jersey. Financially, it’s not the wisest move, but the Hornets seem to think they have the Championship pieces in place for a title run next year, so why not?
How will this loss affect Boston? Rookie Bill Walker can’t shoot like Posey can, but eventually, he could be a defensive menace. And we hate to do something silly like say the Celtics won’t repeat next year – especially because they lost a single-digit scorer who was a reserve – but it’s not happening.

as opposed to what other kind of facial TBL?

Must really be a slow day, Posey gets his own post. Good signing but New Orleans clearly overpaid.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
I don’t think he’s overpaid.
/Anyone on the Knicks

If he’s supposed to be the last piece to that nucleus, then it’s not a big deal to overpay.

CRM your post is funny as hell good job young man.

Championshippppp!

He’s no Eddie House.

4 year/$25 million is a lot for this guy. 9.2 ppg over his career and he’s 31. He is basically doubling his salary because he was lucky enough to be picked up by the Celtics last year.

Giving a stripper named Champagne a facial >>> giving yourself a champagne facial

James Posey love on here is getting out of control, almost as many posts as LeBron!! Can you imagine if James Posey and LeBron had a birthday party?? And if there were pics?? This site would shut down forever!!

Posey isn’t a numbers guy. He’s a glue guy. If you don’t think he was one of the biggest reasons why they won, you probably didn’t watch any of the playoffs. If they really think he’s the missing piece, what’s an extra $2 mil a year anyway? It’s not like they’re over the luxury cap

yo Mick, what about Miami in 05-06? riddle me that.

Posey’s not that good. This is like a few years ago when the Spurs signed Brent Barry and everyone was sayin, Ahhh…now the team’s complete. What?
July 17th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Yeah, the Brent Barry thing was ridiculous, and I think Posey is getting too much hype this offseason. With that said, I think he brings a lot to the table for a contender
July 17th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
i think i have all the skills to be a glue guy. i am personable and friendly, not prone to arguments and i know how to share. think the celts are looking to repace posey?

Championships go through James Posey form now on.

What about it? D-Wade and Shaq. You gonna tell me Derek Fisher was a key to the Shaq/Kobe championships in LA or that Ron Harper was an integral part of the Bulls dynasty. Ray/KG/Pierce +2 and you win the NBA Championship.

@irish: Have you heard if Dwight Howard is pissed about Kenyon Dooling? Weren’t they buds? And isn’t Anthony Johnson like 52 years old?
/because I know you don’t care about James Posey

Shawn Bradley used to give himself a facial with the rim.

@Mick: Fisher was more important than Kobe.

Posey is an outstanding pickup for any team that considers themselves to be title contenders… the NBA deals with Billions and 25 million over 4 years is pocket change

nothing like “popping bottles”. Where is Javon Walker when you need him
@azhawk- i read in the Orlando Sentinel he was “disappointed”. He is all healed up and ready to carry the USA to gold. What a warrior he is though. Playing with a cracked sternum during the playoffs.

@CRM — just read your post. Touche.

putting posey on the Hornets is really going to give Larry Johnson the supporting cast he needs to take it to the next level.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I like the Posey signing for the Hornets; they needed someone at the 2/3 to defend since Peja wasn’t going to. Plus, now they can go with a lineup of:
Paul
Pargo/Posey/Peja
Peja/Posey
D West
Ty Chandler
NO still lacks depth at their 4 and 5 spots, unless the Birdman becomes the Josh Hamilton of the NBA.
I just named my fantasy team “The Broken Orbitals.” It still sucks to be a Raiders fan.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Rumor has it that Pargo isn’t going back to the Hornets

I stopped saying anyone in the NBA is overpaid when Bogut got 75 mill. I kind of figured the Cavs were out of the running when the signed Gibson, I believe he chewed up most of their mid-level exception, at least enough that they couldn’t give Posey the money he wanted.
Nice player for the Hornets though, the kind of veteran winner, defender, and spot up shooter they needed.

Julian Wright is a pretty good defender at the 2/3 as a rookie. He should be even better next year. I lkie the Posey signing but I think it’s for too many years. 3 years should have been the max.
