KOCO 5 in Oklahoma City is reporting that the Seattle Supersonics will soon be called the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Their evidence?

Calls to team officials were unreturned Friday afternoon and evening. However, KOCO.com confirmed that the registrar for all of the NBA’s Internet domain names reserved okcthunderbasketball.com and okcthunderbasketball.net on July 10.  CSC Corporate Domains describes itself as a domain name management company for corporations, law firms and intellectual property professionals. It is the registrar of record for nba.com and all other domains managed by NBA Media Ventures, LLC.

So it’s a good bet that the Oklahoma City Thunder will be playing basketball come November.  They’ll also be playing football, because the Oklahoma Thunder is the World Football League’s franchise housed in Tulsa.  How original.

It should be noted that just because the domains have been resistered, doesn’t mean it was done by an NBA front office.  John Doe could have registered the domain just so he could sell it at a later date.  It would be like if I registered “www.nakedguyonaplane.com” in the hopes that I could sell it to Samuel L Jackson for a future movie.
