NCAA Officials Won’t Put Buzz Bissinger in the Corner
Media Gossip/Musings, Other College Sports July 21st. 2008, 8:50am
One-time TBL interview subject Buzz Bissinger went to the College World Series in Omaha with his young sons. He tried to bring his swanky camera into the stadium, was told no, and fists flew. Glasses were broken, the handcuffs came out, and blood made an appearance. Heretofore, we’re calling him “Bedlam” Bissinger:
An argument ensued, and I openly admit it got heated. An N.C.A.A. official in an orange shirt was called over. He had one of those little faces born in contempt, and he wasn’t happy. He curtly told me to take my camera bag back to my car. I told him I didn’t have a car since I was staying at a hotel on the Iowa side of the Missouri River and had gotten to the games by shuttle. He told me to go back to the hotel. I told him I would miss most of the game if I had go back to the hotel, not to mention the fact I was there with my sons. More heated argument ensued. More security officials arrived, excitedly smelling the scent of action. Camera alert! Camera alert! More argument. One of them got into my face. I got into his face. He pushed into my body. I pushed into his body.
Roughly half a dozen security officials tackled me and threw me face first into the concrete, causing an ugly gash on my leg and a silver dollar-sized bruise on my arm. My glasses broke. One put me in a chokehold while another handcuffed me, all of it occurring in front of my three sons. They were traumatized. I was traumatized. Over a camera. At a sporting event, a college sporting event that likes to think of itself as the ultimate family affair.
I was told I was permanently banned from Rosenblatt. I was threatened with arrest. The gash in my leg was bleeding, a matter of concern because I am on the blood thinner coumadin (the result of recent five-hour reconstructive surgery for a clot in my leg) and one of the side effects of the drug can be unchecked bleeding.
If there was video footage of this, and the only way to see it was to pay, how high would you go? $10? $25? As for the NCAA … fuck ‘em.

Wow, whats funny is that I read this yesterday without ever looking at the author. When I finished, I said, man that guy was an ass, and he isn’t all that good of a writer, that column was all over the place. I guess I was right on both accounts.

This jerk really keeps making Will L look good. He’s just a crazy old man.

I live in Omaha and go to the CWS all the time. Most of the time I just sit in the parking lot with the LSU fans and trade Omaha Steaks & Burgers for Crayfish and Shrimp and drink until dark.
But, everywhere you look there are signs that say “NO CAMERAS ALLOWED IN BALLPARK!” Its been like this for decades. This guy is an unbelievable assclown and I hope his kids learn a lesson here. And that lesson is…Don’t be like your father who is an assclown.

The more important question that needs to be asked, why the hell would anybody who is not related to the players travel to Omaha to watch the College World Series? Really? Buzz has many many issues, of everything I have seen and heard, traveling to Omaha with his 3 kids is the biggest of them all..

let me guess, he is blaming this on bloggers too?

Was this a terrorist camera? Buzz is crazy, but I am 93 percent sure taking photographs at a sporting event is legal and will not lead to fascist uprisings.

I bet Buzz takes his coumadin rectally

You know, it’s all well and good that this guy seems to understand when he flies off the handle but after a while these admissions and semi-apologies lose their luster if it keeps happening
He’s an asshat

420 - But it seemed like he said he had brought cameras into the stadium in past years, but only ran into problems because he had a good camera this time.
I haven’t been to a college football game in awhile … is it like this? Same for college hoops?

Never had a problem at PSU or any of the bowl games I’ve went to. That being said, you have to be pretty dumb to not be able to get a normal digital camera into a stadium past the “extensive” security search.

After reading the linked article, we have to ask Buzz: Have you lost your goddamned mind?

wonder how long it took buzz to pull out the old moe greene “do you know who i am?” line?
July 21st, 2008 at 9:48 am
CLEARLY the whole world is wrong and Buzz is right…once again.
He had one of those little faces born in contempt, and he wasn’t happy. He curtly told me to take my camera bag back to my car.
Let’s see…you’re probably the 157th assclown trying to bring something into the ballpark that he can’t allow and knows this is gonna get ugly because you have the face of an old fart who thinks he can get away with everything.
More security officials arrived, excitedly smelling the scent of action.
No, they were probably thinking, “If that old colostomy bag with the bad combover loses it, we’re gonna have to do something. Why didn’t I call in sick today?”
Roughly half a dozen security officials tackled me and threw me face first into the concrete
TRANSLATION: “Any number less than 6 and I would have karamatized them like the bitches they were!”
all of it occurring in front of my three sons. They were traumatized.
I’m sure that by now the kids are aware that going out with Dad in public is always a recipe for violence.
I’m sorry. I’ve had friends who’ve worked security for stadiums and events and it never surprised me to hear that the people most belligerent were the self-centered douchebags like Buzz who think that their ticket gives them a right to do whatever they will.
Hey Buzz, here’s a hint: Buy an iPhone. You can carry it into the stadium and the camera on it will take all the pretty photos you want and upload them to a computer.
Oh wait…there’s that newfangled techie lingo. Someone see if Buzz fell asleep.

…He pushed into my body. I pushed into his body…
this homoerotic description of the fight should have been labeled NSFW.

My wife and I have a really nice camera and we’ve never had a problem taking it in to either UT football or basketball games. The only problem we ever had was taking it into a Titans game where one bag checker made us take a picture with it and show it to her to prove it was actually a camera.

buzz bissinger is nothing more than a lying cocksucker. i lived in west texas when fri night lights came out. he even admitted that he told the permian coach it would be like the hoosiers of high school football. of course the people in odessa were stupid to believe him but he has zero credibility.
July 21st, 2008 at 10:06 am
I’m sure Buzz didn’t say anything condescending to provoke these gentlemen or anything.
July 21st, 2008 at 10:08 am
No camera rules really piss the shit out of Buzz
July 21st, 2008 at 10:13 am
let me see: arrogant, self-centered northeastern blue blood knowitall, born with a silver spoon in his mouth trying to throw his weight around (and his massive higher sense of being and grossly inflated self-worth and superior intelligence) with — in buzz’s eyes — a few midwestern hayseeds posing as rent-a-cops… hillbillies with a badge.
i’ll show them!
“UGH! why are these fools trying to make me eat concrete???”
July 21st, 2008 at 10:13 am
wow jimbo
tell us how you really feel!!
July 21st, 2008 at 10:26 am
Ahh, another priceless Buzz story. I wonder if he either asked “do you know who I am?” or tried to flash a press pass.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:44 pm
how much more of this from buzz before he finally admits he has some serious anger management problems?
im not saying the NCAA guys werent acting like assholes, but to get into that kind of altercation with authorities you either have to be piss drunk or a tremendous fucking jerk. and buzz did this in front of his kids? hes got some issues man.
