Ground Zero for MLS Hooliganism: Columbus, Ohio
Fighting, Soccer July 21st. 2008, 11:15am
Guess American soccer fans fighting rowdy Hooligans from across the pond is preferential to those same American soccer fans pelting another MLS team with objects and shouting racial epithets.
But did they have to pick their first fight with a Hooligan pack that has its own Wikipedia page?
“We just went over for some tea and crumpets and (the Crew fans) got mad,” said the man, who identified himself as Dave Simpson from London.
That’s pretty bad-ass. If anyone sees video of this rumble, kindly pass it along.

That’s a great action shot of the dude throwing the chair.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:17 am
youre a fucking asshole if you think hooliganism is badass. this shit is so unbelievably bad for soccer, and the MLS’ decision to bring a shit club that has shit supporters over is astonishingly stupid
July 21st, 2008 at 11:17 am

Green Street Hooligans is a great movie.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:19 am
The OSU mouth breathers were simply warming up for football season.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:19 am
that was unbelievable. i wasnt there, but all the crowd shots during the game looked like all-out bedlam.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:20 am
Hey, at least the correct league was mentioned in this post!
July 21st, 2008 at 11:21 am
that movie was fucking awful and glorifies hooliganism in the end (douchebag hobbit whistling bubbles at the end).
July 21st, 2008 at 11:23 am
I (root for a team that’s) 0 (for 9 against the SEC{SPEED!!})
/getting jacked up about football season!
July 21st, 2008 at 11:23 am
I had to read the title of the post multiple times before I could convince myself that this was indeed American soccer. I truly thought this was going to be about some local club “friendly” in the U.K.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:25 am
mizerle…aren’t you a vandy fan? by all means, lets see how vandy does against OSU.
/been jacked up for the last month
July 21st, 2008 at 11:25 am
i was down there spencer was pretty amazing how many people were on Lane–almost every bar down there had big outdoor screens set up to watch the game outside
but really the majority of crowds were very well behaved and UM fans pretty much avoided High Street and all the tailgates around the stadium
July 21st, 2008 at 11:25 am
Has anyone seen Eastern Promises? For some reason this story reminded me of the scene where the guy is walking home from the Arsenal/Chelsea game and he’s stumbling drunk.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:26 am
yes, and subsequently, way too much of viggos dong
July 21st, 2008 at 11:27 am
Yes, but aside from the male frontal nudity, it was an excellent movie.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:28 am
perfectly good chairs they are wasting
July 21st, 2008 at 11:28 am
yeah i loved it, not a big naomi watts fan (seeing her naked in 21 grams scared me forever, nipples the size of grapes) but the movie was great. pretty brutal
July 21st, 2008 at 11:28 am
@spencer – don’t you ever say something like that again. I’m a UT fan.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:29 am
mmonast…im jealous. everyone i know who was in c-bus for that game said it was an experience to remember.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:29 am
oh yeah, Vandy will get trashed by O(for 9)SU.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:30 am
mizerle…my bad, i got confused with August, my sincere apologies.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:31 am

July 21st, 2008 at 11:32 am

July 21st, 2008 at 11:39 am
@CRM
I loved Green Street Hooigans! Also read the book about the ICF. Called ‘Congratulations, you have met the ICF’
July 21st, 2008 at 11:43 am
I didn’t think anyone in America cared about soccer.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:44 am
GSH was a great movie. moleman needs to chill.
Go vols.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:44 am
moleman hates hooliganism, but loves the NHL, aka “Hooligans on Ice”. I think that’s weird.
Also weird, this rash on my crotch.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:44 am
I am an OSU fan, but am forced to also pull for the Vols due to the wife’s allegiance. We go to a couple of games each year. last year we were lucky enough to go to the 3 OT UK game
July 21st, 2008 at 11:48 am
And you admit this?
July 21st, 2008 at 11:49 am
yep. she knows a lot about football, and cares about it more than anyone i know. if UT loses, then I lose. therefore I root for them
July 21st, 2008 at 11:50 am
Bill Buford – Among the Thugs is a great book
July 21st, 2008 at 11:50 am
here is the important ? blazers OSU Tenn play each other…who do u openly root for
July 21st, 2008 at 11:52 am
just thought it was an awful movie, and it does glorify hooligans. football factory paints a much more realistic picture about the retardation of it, and certainly doesnt make elijah fucking wood a feared hooligan
July 21st, 2008 at 11:52 am
Anybody who has been to a UM-UOS game in Columbus and is rooting for the maize and blue would hardly be surprised by this.
Eastern Promises? +1
July 21st, 2008 at 11:54 am
@mmonast
hilarious. buckeyes in a landslide. they are scheduled for like 2016 or something. I pull for Tennessee, but am not really a fan. Just enough so that I can still get laid during football season!
July 21st, 2008 at 11:56 am
There you have it…be a fan of the Vols and you’ll get laid. I see a new ad campaign coming on.
July 21st, 2008 at 11:57 am
and blazers, you aasked a little while back about where to get an aerial pic of Neyland. Check utsports.com and visit the Vol Mall. They used to have good pictures but I can’t get on the site from work and I keep forgetting to check when I get home.
July 21st, 2008 at 12:08 pm

we could do this all day…
July 21st, 2008 at 12:54 pm
bring it on fellas. I love some cfb back-and-forth. It helps pass the time between now and kickoff.
July 21st, 2008 at 12:59 pm

July 21st, 2008 at 1:00 pm

July 21st, 2008 at 1:07 pm
not nearly as gay as that song you just typed. seriously, what the fuck was that?
July 21st, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Whatever, nancy boy. It’s the Bears fight song. But keep practicing your Ohio spelling, maybe one day you’ll get it.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Fight songs are the Strahaniest thing in all of sports. Especially PRO team fight songs.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:10 pm
/hoping the Titans don’t have one and never will
July 21st, 2008 at 1:11 pm
@SG: SB Shuffle > Bear Down, even though SB Shuffle was only a one-year thing it will stand the test of time.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:12 pm
The Bears have had their fight song before the NFL was the NFL. So all of you can go fuck yourselves.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:12 pm
That’s what she said.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:13 pm
So the Bears’ gayness predates the NFL? Congrats to them.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:14 pm
You would know, Nick, you invented the rainbow flag.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:15 pm

July 21st, 2008 at 1:16 pm
This is why the US should be split up into several smaller countries. I am nothing like anyone from the Midwest. At all. You are all very foreign to me in every way.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:17 pm
So’s your face.
/Also science.
July 21st, 2008 at 1:24 pm
