Devin Hester, Now Eminently Quoteable
NFL July 24th. 2008, 11:06am
“I can’t go out and play this year making $445,000. Come on, man.” - Devin Hester.
Damn, the NFC North is a hot, mediocre mess: The Vikings got busted messing with Favre, the Packers don’t know what to do with Favre, the Lions are the Lions, and the Bears only offensive option understandably wants more loot.

I love the capri pants.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Has to be the NFL quote of the summer, right? Love me some candor on a Thursday morning.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:09 am
What music is he blaring in that pic?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:09 am
“I can’t go out and play this year making $445,000. Come on, man.€
people were talking about Adam Jones being the next “PrimeTime”. Ladies and bitches, that man up top is PRIMETIME. The Bears are lucky to have this man on their shitty team
July 24th, 2008 at 11:11 am
@irish - Deion was a shutdown corner. Hester just runs fly patterns.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Anybody who calls Pacman the new ‘Primetime’ deserves to be punched in the fucking throat… he’s done NOTHING in the NFL league but return some punts and rack up pass interference/personal misconduct fouls.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:12 am
really? never knew Devin Hester was the best shut down corner(ever) in the league on top of being the best returner
July 24th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Well, for better or worse (more so for the latter), Hester is their best offensive player…
July 24th, 2008 at 11:14 am
The Bears are lucky to have Hester though. He’s the best return man in the league and their only shot to get past midfield.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:14 am
and drops the passes
July 24th, 2008 at 11:16 am
This just in…Favre doesn’t have a team issued cell phone. So maybe the Vikings weren’t “busted messing with Favre”.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:16 am
no shit CRM, Deion played corner? wow
July 24th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Why didn’t he just say I have to feed my family like Sprewell.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:19 am
hey CRM- i bet you didnt even go to Vegas. you are probably one of those liars who try to make themselves look good. You got pictures to prove you were there?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:19 am
yea, and as a Bears fan, that’s all I’m worried about. Hester’s sucks because all he does is run fly patterns and drop the passes. It’s not like he’s a scoring threat any time he gets the ball on a kickoff or punt.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Randball has his own take on the situation
Hopefully, Favre remembered to shake the phone so they could hear him. Phuket, Thailand!
July 24th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Shit. Someone figured me out.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:22 am
I think Irish woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and ate urinated Cheerios.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Russian Bears >>>>>>>> Chicago Bears
July 24th, 2008 at 11:25 am
even if CRM did go to vegas, his story was sub-par, nothing personal CRM, but i need to hear stories with some babes (not just staring at some UFC girls), or drinking budweiser’s on the strip at 4 am, or getting beat up like javon walker. anything works, i mean im sure the UFC fight was good and all but nothing stood out. However, if you had fun, to each his own, im just a reader
July 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am
The Bears have to be running out of money at some point right? They locked up Briggs and Urlacher, and someone else on their defense I believe, will there be money for Hester?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Dave - Favre gets his own post later on that top.
I’d love it if Hester holds out. No offense, of course, Bears fans. Who would then become the most fascinating player in the league? It ain’t Bush … maybe LT?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am
you have to be making millions before you can say that, i think…
July 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am
@cbh - they should be well under the cap since they don’t even have a quarterback
July 24th, 2008 at 11:27 am
NO TBL! Don’t be part of the machine!
unless you are gonna tear him a new one.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Any time you can mold your entire offense around one guy who does nothing well other than special teams, you gotta make that move.
It’s a good thing Bears management didn’t go and waste their cap space on an extension for a guy who had 4 years left on his current contract and just had neck surgery and hasn’t played well since January of 2007, ’cause that would have been foolish.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:28 am
I think Devin and McFadden shop at the same car dealership
July 24th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Don’t let that leopard out around Devin’s whip.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:29 am
By fascinating player, are you talking about most fun to watch?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:29 am
If the opponents just kick the ball out of bounds or go for it on 4th Hester would become completely irrelevant.
And next time I go to Vegas I’ll be sure to make some shit up.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Just like Shockey, these cats from tha U just aren’t team players. It’s science.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Great quote, and I have to kind of agree with him.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:31 am
DH needs a Reebok shoe contract to supplement that slave wage.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:31 am
alright lets be real here, if anyone sees that at their local shell who’s going up to him for an autograph? im definitly turning down the mickey avalon or kid rock when i roll in.
@TBL, unless you’re calling favre a selfish, dickhead, who has no respect then don’t waste your time with the favre post, i hate that fucking guy.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:32 am
thanks ron, i can only rely on lozo for twin cities stories for so long.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:32 am
the bears would be fucking idiots if they didn’t pay this guy. He’s currently their only offensive weapon. What’s worse is they probably don’t could have had this worked out months ago with some sort of 3 year extension for smaller money than what it’s going to cost them now.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:33 am
“And next time I go to Vegas I’ll be sure to make some shit up.” CRM
Yeah, I’m not entirely sure why you are get hounded for stories. Every story I hear or I told about a Vegas trip are essentially the same story.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:34 am
How many years does Hester have left on his contract? Besides return kicks and (Hester just runs fly patterns.
and drops the passes) what does he really do to ask for a new contract?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:34 am
@clown: I wouldn’t call U players not team players. Flaming homosexuals maybe, but still team players.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:34 am
just keep posting the boobs man. thats all we really care about.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:35 am
what else is there to post about favre? there’s nothing new, except for the packers backpedaling off the team issued cell phone item. This won’t be post worthy until he’s either at camp holding a clipboard or on a new team. Fuck Favre & the Pack.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:36 am
I am getting tired of all this Brandon Lloyd bashing around here.
/dripping sarcasm
July 24th, 2008 at 11:36 am
I don’t know the stats, but I think he scored the most touchdowns for his team. For this team, regardless of what else he doesn’t do, he is the most important weapon they have. If he doesn’t play not only do they suck, but they suck more than the 49ers.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:37 am
sandi, bears mgmt has already been established as beyond stoopid. they didn’t draft a QB.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:38 am
what, no faith in Rex?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:38 am
at some point, dont the bears have to pay an offensive player? tommie harris, urlacher, briggs, mike brown…give someone a contract who can score a fucking TD for chrissakes.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Best story of the pre-season: Coach flipped a coin to pick the first string QB for the Bears.
If you have 2 QB’s at such a high level you literally have to flip a coin to chose between them… why draft a QB?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:39 am
if this were the patriots I’d say let the guy walk, but the Bears have nothing….they can’t even figure out who to put at QB, or who they’re gonig to throw the ball to, or hand it off to. They’re a fucking mess. At least with Hester they are watchable.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:39 am
I like Hester, he’s a nice kid, kind of shy, but he’s totally someone who could be easily talked into doing something dumb, like not show up to camp. Believe me, he needs all the help and practice time he can get if he expects to learn an NFL offense. Does he deserve to make more money? Absolutely, he was the only bright spot on that team last year. Should he try to get more money by not showing up to camp? NO.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:40 am
@nick- no wonder you leave garbage over here all day. You cant even get into your own romper room of a blog. Sad person you are nick very sad
July 24th, 2008 at 11:40 am
tbl - faith that he throws a pick on his first pass of the season
July 24th, 2008 at 11:40 am
lovie smith will not only be focusing on more of an emphasis for the bears defense to create turnovers, but to take those turnovers to the house, no matter how many laterals it takes.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:41 am
JB, Hester’s a game changer, he deserves to get paid. If the Bears won’t do it someone else will, as a 49ers fan you would want him on your team.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Guys, if you didn’t know, irish is most hated!
July 24th, 2008 at 11:42 am
if I were a 49ers fan I would happy to get jabar gaffney and trent edwards!

Why Sandi, why kick a team when there down?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:42 am
happened last year with RAC and the browns…winner was frye…id say it turned out OK.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:42 am
How would you choose between Sexy Rexy and The Neck Beard? Roshambo?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:43 am
@cbh - I’m a chiefs fan, doesn’t get much worse than being a chiefs fan, so when I can, I do.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Sandi that was low man.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Recc: hating Favre is un-American. Move to Canada ass.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:46 am
So the wrong guy winning is considered working out? I guess we’re in for a career year from Grossman.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Isn’t Jeff George looking for a job?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:47 am
EXACTLY!
July 24th, 2008 at 11:47 am
He deserves to be paid but how much is he holding out for?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Quotes from Lovie Smith I look forward to this upcoming season (in order):
- “Rex is our quarterback.”
- “We get off the bus running.”
- “We feel that Rex gives us our best opportunity to win.”
- “Kyle is our quarterback. We feel that he gives us our best opportunity to win.”
- “We feel bad for Mike. He worked hard to get back, but we feel we’ve created depth at safety so we can plug some guys in.”
- “Rex is our quarterback. We feel that he gives us our best opportunity to win.”
- “This season breaks into quarters. We’re 1-3 in the first quarter, but we feel we can turn that around in the second quarter.”
- “Kyle is our quarterback.”
- “We feel that Kevin Jones gives us our best opportunity to win.”
- “Forte is our starter; we feel he gives us our best opportunity to win.”
- “Rex is our quarterback.”
- “We’re shutting him down for the season.”
- “Kyle will be our quarterback.”
/I can’t wait.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Damn, it’s been years since a Vikings fan like myself has gone into the season with so much optimism.
And before you even say anything, go ahead and fuck off, I know T-Jack is our quarterback.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:49 am
do we know who won the coin toss? Grossman is bad enough that I am sure he lost the coin flip too.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Let’s break the Bears’ offense down:
QB - a national joke
RB - starting a 2nd round rookie
WR - a bunch of castaways and #2s
TE - Hey kids, Dallas Clark! (The bright spot)
OL - Let’s not keep piling on.
Hester’s right. Where else are they going to generate points from? If I ran the Bears, I’d ask for opponents to just keep kicking to Hester with our 4 downs. Would be more exciting and more likely to work!
July 24th, 2008 at 11:49 am
he just tossed the coin 50 yards downfield into triple coverage.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:50 am
rooting for a selfish prick is american, keep letting the media own you benji, its working out well. i bet you agree with the army’s decision to not let that kid play for the lions too.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Dallas Clark plays for the Colts. The Bears TE is Greg Olsen.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:51 am
arkbadger - nothing wrong with a solid defense and 2 top tier running backs. Jackson is firmly entrenched in 2006 Rex Grossman’s “Just don’t lose it for us” territory.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Um, isn’t that Desmond Clark, not Dallas?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Dallas Clark isn’t on the Bears silly.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:51 am
whoa, Recc4 -
How is Hester a selfish prick?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Benji’s a Packers fan of course he loves Favre, and the guy signed up to be in the Army, and we are fighting two wars, but I guess a football career is more important.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:52 am
greg olsen, not only the bright spot, but a pretty good rapper too

July 24th, 2008 at 11:52 am
by Dallas do you mean Desmond?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:55 am
no i don’t agree with the Army’s decision regarding the Lions dude.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:56 am
@TBL, favre’s the selfish prick, hester’s just from the U. the army had a policy for these types of things, and changed it 3 weeks ago and now a day before the kid is going to start an NFL TRAINING CAMP, something he has been preparing for since his graduation the Army renegs by sending Matt Millen a letter telling them to send him back to West Point where oh by the way, he’s been for most of the summer training.
CBH, we have plenty of servicemen, you think the guys in Iraq would want this guy next to them or on an NFL roster?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Dick Clark?
July 24th, 2008 at 11:57 am
yes, an appropriate dick joke!
July 24th, 2008 at 11:58 am
CBH, we have plenty of servicemen, you think the guys in Iraq would want this guy next to them or on an NFL roster?
Next to them, and you’re kidding yourself if you think we have plenty of servicemen.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:58 am
this guy could recruit a lot more soldiers for the Army as an NFL player than he will as a soldier. our gov’t fucks something up yet again.
July 24th, 2008 at 11:59 am
How would that work, go join the Army like me, I mean I’m not actually in the Army anymore, I get to play football, but you go sign up and fight in a war?
Seriously guys.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
This whole situation reminds of me of Parenthood when Clint Howard tells his kid to go after the ball no matter what it takes because “he’s the only real player they got”
Devin Hester is that kid.
“HE HAD NO BUSINESS BEING OUT THERE—NO BUSINESS!!!”
July 24th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
ah yes, my bad on the reading. favre = selfish, agreed
July 24th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Its just bad publicity for the ARMY because it makes it seem as though they gave him the okay to go out and chase his dream and then decided oh no what we want you back.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Classic Doctor - to be fair though, he truly had no business being out there (smiley)
July 24th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
@Happy: YOU MADE ME PLAY SECOND BASE!!!!!!
/Great shot, son!
July 24th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
@cbh49er… I got no problem with your stance, I just that wish the Army had been consistent on that from the start. They let the man enter the draft, when he got drafted told him that he could play football and he could serve out his tour as a recruiter in Detroit. The man goes through OTA’s and mini-camp and gets ready for training camp and days before camp starts, they reverse policy… that is messed up in my opinion.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
agree to disagree cbh, you think a story about this kid, trying to play in the NFL would uplift soldiers fighting or a story about how the army and the people they take orders from is pulling this kid away from something really special and something where he can represent himself and thousands of other soldiers. If this kid had suited up for the lions, plenty of soldiers all across the world would feel proud, instead he got sent back to West Point to be a graduate assistant and recruit some kids and tell them, yeah the army took away my dream but come on and join anyway. This kid had a chance to fulfill two dreams that you have to absolutly work your ass off for mentally and physically which is go to west point and play in the NFL and that’s been taken away from him. And for what? Give me one good reason why that makes sense.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I agree it was handled poorly, but disagree with those who say it’s wrong of the Army to make him stay.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
You join the army you sign a contract. Presumably one that actually means something. Football is extra curricular. You want to play then go to college, fullfill your dream and try the process. Then join the army if you want football first.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
SG…unfortunately the only leverage a guy like Hester has is to holdout. THese guys should get all the money they can. Their contracts are not guaranteed. If they feel the need to re-up so be it because the teams will dump them once they fall off in performance or get injured. Is there greed here..sure but we all would do the same thing
July 24th, 2008 at 1:13 pm

July 24th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
most fascinating player in the league? It ain’t Bush
I disagree, Bush is fascinating just because it boggles the mind that someone with sooo much talent in college, can suck this much. Why does he dance if he’s faster than the person in front of him? Why not just make one fucking cut and go??? Why???
July 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

Bulls making the playoffs this year? Your frontline is pitiful
July 24th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Almost as pitiful as your grammar. As far as the Bulls chances on making the playoffs - I’d say odds are against what with a new coach (with 0 experience mind you), a new coaching staff, a rookie PG looking to start, 2 contract disputes, and an Aaron Gray. The East is the place to do it in under 45 wins, but that would be a miracle.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
nice. Grammar policing is the way to go to get your point across huh
