The Photos of Erin Andrews That Had Lou Piniella Ask if She Were on a Modeling Assignment
ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings August 1st. 2008, 9:00am
Don’t know if any post this year has generated more email than yesterday’s in regard to Erin Andrews’ sartorial selection in the Chicago Cubs clubhouse this week. (Stellar work by Mr. Daulerio procuring the above photo of the outfit that made Lou Piniella ask, “Is this a baseball game or a modeling assignment?. A Chicago Sun-Times reporter even took a camera-phone pic and posted it on his blog, which is equal parts hilarious and strange.)
There were plenty of journalists defending Andrews’ friendly clubhouse banter (’no different from how male journalists ‘buddy-up’ with some athletes in the hopes of generating scoops’), and some saying that her ’skimpy’ outfit was nothing new. (Bloggers’ takes can be found here, here, and here.)
The only email that piqued our interest was one that claimed Andrews may have crossed the line All-Star weekend in New York when she handed her Apple i-phone to her producer and had him take a photo of her with a “high-profile futures star” who was recently traded. (We’ve withheld the name of the athlete to protect our eyewitness.)
According to our source, credentialed journalists taking photos with athletes in the clubhouse/dugout is not permitted by Major League Baseball (which is odd, because for years there have been many stories in circulation about Mike Lupica of the NY Daily News allegedly inviting his family onto the field at various New York venues to have their photo taken with athletes). Our source claims, “it’s the lack of professionalism that bothers people.”
Sour grapes or a legit claim? ESPN’s PR department told us yesterday, in response to Mike Nadel’s eyebrow-raising column, “Erin is a tremendous reporter. She’s a prepared, hard-working journalist who is well respected and asks excellent questions. We’re proud to have her as an important part of our coverage team. Beyond that, we feel it’s unnecessary to even respond to any of the specifics outlined.”

CRM, what was the best buffet you had in vegas? We’ve got a debate going on in the office. My vote is the Luxor.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:10 am
The first shit has got to stop, that was cool on the interwebs about 10 years ago (and saying interwebs was cool 2 years ago).
Was the dress a little short for work, probably. But are we really getting all worked up about being able to see a few inches of skin above the knee, so 3 inches of fabric would have made the dress perfectly acceptable? I think she should work topless, but thats probably just me.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:10 am
I see nice legs.
I just don’t find this to be that big of a story. Now if it involved Jay Mariotti in that dress, THAT’D be a story.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:14 am
She probably wouldn’t have been thrown off a plane for it…
August 1st, 2008 at 9:14 am
I see nothing wrong with that outfit on a hot summer day and she is on TV and her job is to be an eye candy sideline reporter…now she does do her job..so she is not just a POA with a mic…but here job is to give tid bits and look hot…she is not trying to be Woodward and Bernstein…I have seen many writers wearing shorts and a polo shirt at a game..some of the old guys wear those high “your balls are showing” shorts…that is offensive..no one likes old balls
August 1st, 2008 at 9:15 am
nwilson – I only ate at 1 buffet – don’t remember what it was called. It was in the Palms.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:15 am
Matt LaPorta is “high-profile”?
August 1st, 2008 at 9:16 am
As I look at the pic again..I realize..everyone is wearing shorts..not many people wear shorts to work…except me today..I love casual friday
August 1st, 2008 at 9:16 am
Wish I could wear jorts to work.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:20 am
I saw more skin at the nunnery.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:23 am
Anyone who visits any sports blog (or with half a brain) is aware of the lack of ethics at ESPN, but her outfit really isn’t that big of a deal. Here is how I see it: We live in a tough world and often times you gotta use what you have to get the job done. I know it probably won’t happen, but I’d like to hear what Linda Cohn and/or Rachel Nichols thought of her outfit.

Damn you CRM
August 1st, 2008 at 9:25 am
Way to make us work on that blind item TBL. The “High-profile futures star” is OBVIOUSLY Matt LaPorta, who like EA, is a former Florida Gator.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:26 am
It could be Teddy Dupay.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:26 am
My two cents: EA should dress professionally, to be taken serious professionally. It should be no different than the typical office setting of business casual dress. Rachel Nichols is attractive, and none of this comes her way – because she dresses professionally.
The buddy buddy stuff is part of the relationship building process, but one would have to be there to see if EA is just naturally a flirt (some people just are).
I think the writer was correct in making this a column. Today’s 24/7 news cycle demands behind-the-scenes stories, and that’s what this is. Shame on EA for letting it get to this point!
Having said that, I think Major League Jerk should send a blogger to spend an entire MLB game with her. I would love some pics, and some play-by-play. I also wonder what her favorite outfits are…
August 1st, 2008 at 9:27 am
Love the look the guy behind her is sporting. The socks are definitely the best part.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:28 am
is he out of jail?
August 1st, 2008 at 9:33 am
Big Nuts hits the nail on the head. It’s not awful, but I do see where the complaints are coming from. Even more so from the camera phone pic where you can see how skimpy the dress really is. Not to mention the high heels. she looks great, no doubt, and she’s not barely dressed or anything, but it isn’t really a professional type of outfit. It is a bit skimpy. That might not fly at any other normal job either.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:35 am
She is incredible.
Now, leave her the fuck alone, Mike Nadel.
/call me, Erin

@Mike NYC – You got it, Erin
August 1st, 2008 at 9:38 am
Clown – I think she is worth 5 minutes, at the least. Oh wait — do you need the little blue pill for anything over 2? Lololololololololol
August 1st, 2008 at 9:40 am
+5, Big nuts. That was truly “Lololololololololol”-worthy
August 1st, 2008 at 9:41 am
Big Nuts, unless you are 14, you’re not allowed to use “LOL.” Sorry.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:42 am
Sometimes I wonder if Big Nuts is a 5-year old boy or a scary 85-year old man.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:42 am
I was really hoping the Chicago Sun-Times reporter was Asian.

I don’t understand why “looking professional” means attractive women must look unattractive.
If men can’t control themselves without giggling about a woman in a sundress, that is seemingly our problem, not hers.
That article sounded jealous of the attention she was getting, almost as though that writer was upset that the players were not fawning over him.
And not to question TBL eyewitnesses, but is it out of the realm of possibility that it was the player who wanted a picture with her and it was his phone?
August 1st, 2008 at 9:55 am
As for the Lupica comment, there is nothing in the guidelines against family members or guests of credentialed members taking pictures, getting autographs, etc.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:56 am
die eagles die…I agree with that..they are covering baseball games not a fucking war…let relax a bit
August 1st, 2008 at 9:58 am
ladies, yes, it’s true — just because you are dressed that way does NOT make you a whore…
but you are wearing a whore’s uniform!!

Rachel Nichols > Erin Andrews

I would fuck Rachel Nichols…I think she’s a freak..Andrea Kramer..not so much
August 1st, 2008 at 10:21 am
I have my reasons…mainly Erin Andrews strikes me as a) stuck up and b) very lazy in bed whereas I think Rachel Nichols would probably a freak. over 2/3 of my friends agree with that assessment.
August 1st, 2008 at 10:27 am
No love for Wendi Nix? i would tap that
August 1st, 2008 at 10:30 am

For some reason I would plow the thick Michelle Bonner…she seems like the type that she would make it worth your while to throw her the dick
August 1st, 2008 at 10:34 am
Gasp! Open toed shoes? There’s your problem right there. The nerve of her. Professionals never reveal the tootsies. Look at the dudes. You don’t see them bustin’ out the Tevas, and if they did they would have had the good sense to where socks with them.
August 1st, 2008 at 10:36 am
Wendi Nix has been looking hot lately. did she lose about 40-50 pounds?
August 1st, 2008 at 10:39 am
Did I just type where socks?

August 1st, 2008 at 10:44 am
I had to google “Tevas” because you guys keep referring to them. This is what you’re talking about? That’s it? Is that not cool to wear? I don’t get it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go google “blumpkin” to figure out what that means.
August 1st, 2008 at 10:45 am
over 2/3 of my friends agree with that assessment and I should know because I only have three friends.
Remedial math didn’t take, huh
August 1st, 2008 at 10:46 am
Dress for your work environment. High heels and a sassy little dress probably isn’t the best choice for a chick in a locker room, unless you want to be the center of attention.
That said, I’d bang the shit out of her. Whether she liked it or not.
August 1st, 2008 at 10:48 am
Rachel Nichols is not only unattractive, she has no business being a sports broadcaster. I can’t stand the way she talks, it’s like she’s trying to do her best impression of Keith Jackson.
August 1st, 2008 at 10:49 am

And by best I don’t mean insightful.

Less of an EA fan after this. I think what Nadel and this other girl said is pretty credible.
