So we opened the Esquire with Tom Brady on the cover and that lucky bastard Joel Stein got to do a story on Sarah Shahi (the photos of her are incredible). So here’s one shot, there’s another after the jump, and here’s a video of her from 2007. We’ve been a fan since she was on Dawson’s Creek … legless man driving car gets DUI … Trev Alberts ranks college football blogs … Rachel McAdams, anyone? … According to the Gap, Sean Avery is a “style influencer” … nothing like an Olympic cheerleader montage … Poland and women and volleyball …

Female cheerleader allegedly sexually assaults 13-year-old female. The comments section are a window into South Carolina. (Aiken Standard)
Shoot, we totally missed this: James Blake upsets Roger Federer at the Olympics. (Harford Courant)
Gary Payton is unlikely to be welcome in Turks & Caicos after allegedly breaking up the Prime Minister’s marriage. (NY Daily News)
Here’s the column in Pittsburgh that prompted the Steelers to defend Mr. Guarantee. (Tribune-Review)
“Without question, this is too much Bob Costas — he of the ready cliché, the coltish forelock and the jaw-dropping impertinence.” Agree. (NY Times)
Does Tiki Barber’s Olympic commentary stink? We like Tiki! (CJR)
Yup, Ben Mauk deserves a sixth year, but the NCAA probably won’t give it to him. (Sparty and Friends)

nicely done, Cortes
August 15th, 2008 at 8:17 am
The NCAA has got to be both the dumbest and most hypocritical organization in history.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:23 am
I find Tiki Barber beyond annoying.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Seems like TBL has stepped up his game today with the pics. CRM, I know you are up to the challenge….
August 15th, 2008 at 8:29 am
CRM mails it in on Fridays though
August 15th, 2008 at 8:30 am
@sparty – I’ve been saving an Olympic-themed nude pictorial of Scarlett Johansson and Elisha Cuthbert for just such an occasion.
/faints at thought

@CRM-excuse me for the next 30 secs…

The dollar hit a 6 month high against the euro this morning and broke above its 200 day moving average for the first time in 2 1/2 years. Goldman Sachs also abandoned its bearish stance on the dollar. This is a great development for oil prices and the economy in general.

On Mauk: Not sure if he deserves another year or not. He has now tried to use every loophole that the NCAA has in their books. This time, it didn’t work. I do find it (not) amazing that his hometown (Rural Stick, Ohio) judge dropped a restraining order on the NCAA to allow Mauk to practice with UC until the lawsuit is settled. No bias there!
On Costas: Need to find the video of the outlandish Bela Karolyi in studio with Bobby. Costas looks very uncomfortable as Bela is screaming and gyrating in studio, especially when Bela touches him…
@CRM: Such wonderful thoughts for so early in the AM…
On Tennis: Depressed at the thought that Federer could be done, or close to it. Good for Blake though! Williams sisters screwed up 2 good chances at medals yesterday too.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:42 am
@purduematt: Tell that to all the people across the country that are losing jobs… The worst is still to come, I’m afraid.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Of course blake just lost after beating Federer
August 15th, 2008 at 8:45 am
@Wally: I love your itemized morning notes.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:46 am
@nick… I felt very organized this morning. Quite different than most. Maybe it was the quality of links?
August 15th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Blake is a decent fringe player, but he’ll never win a major.
I lost my job and can’t sell my house, but the dollar has gained against the Euro. Woohoo!

@Tampa… Can we add Natalie Coughlin, the housewife weightlifter, a Misty May/Carrie Walsh “artistic” set, and several more that I am currently forgetting?
August 15th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Natalie Coughlin, the housewife weightlifter
This sounds scarry but if shes hot…yes.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Wally-i am with you on Coughlin. Love her.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:52 am

haven’t had time to look at this, but Matt, check back around 10 … i’ll have a link or two for you. I’m long gold right now, and maybe I should put a stop at 800, but I’m confident it’ll see 1000 again.

August 15th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Crap – that’s the medal ceremony. Anyway, on the right side of the page, you can get the link to Bela going nuts in the studio.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Bela>Captain Kangaroo
August 15th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Roeth –
That was it! Hilarious looks on Costas’ face. I’ll bet he can’t wait for the Gymnastics to be over so Bela stops bruising his arm.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:06 am
this is way OT – The Elephant and the Dragon, which TBL mentioned last week, is top notch. highly recommended
August 15th, 2008 at 9:09 am
From the comments…. I JUST WANT THE AIKEN COUNTY TO KNOW THAT STEPH SURELY IS LOVED BYE ALL HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS PLUS WE GIVE ALL THE SPORT (ALWAY BELEAVE ,TRUST , OBEY AND SAY YOUR PRAYER BECAUSE GOD IS IN THE MAKING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AT ALL TIME ) HE WILL DO MIRCLES..
August 15th, 2008 at 9:09 am
The comments on that cheerleader assault story are awesome. Virtually every comment has serious spelling/grammatical/logical errors. I’m not the grammar police type, but damn those were scary. The south will rise again, SOOOUUUUIIIIII.

The dollar hit a 6 month high against the euro… This is a great development for oil prices and the economy in general.
Agreed.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:14 am
RE: Aiken Standard: what kind of reputable newspaper writes the whole article in bold?
August 15th, 2008 at 9:17 am
best comment i read (out of maybe the first 10)
August 15th, 2008 at 9:19 am
@ Tampa Bo: I’ll see your loud farting CFO at your work, and raise you a couple of hot girls outside the GED testing center adjacent to my desk.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Shieff Hunt is one of the best in the nation.
Sounds Muslim
August 15th, 2008 at 9:22 am
@LBL… Hot Girls. GED Testing center. GED like General Equivalency Diploma, for those that don’t graduate HS?
Where are working? And which hot girls take the GED?
August 15th, 2008 at 9:23 am
and raise you a couple of hot girls outside the GED testing center adjacent to my desk.
Lance let them know they dont need GEDs to become strippers
August 15th, 2008 at 9:28 am
@Triston- You forgot the subject line
GREAT GURL : 8/14/2008
August 15th, 2008 at 9:31 am
I work at a local community college handling transcripts, and the GED (yes, the “oh shit I really should’ve gotten my diploma when I was in high school, diploma”) center is down the hall from me. And you’d be suprised man; I sure as hell was the first time I saw this odd phenomenon. But I’ve been working here since Memorial Day so now I know it’s not a fluke.
Funny and kind-of-interesting side note: There’s also a strip club about a mile from my work, maybe that explains something?
August 15th, 2008 at 9:34 am
The ones that already have 2 kids and work at the aforementioned strip club.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:36 am
I will admit there are some horrible living stereotypes outside that room too, but sometimes you do get lucky and catch a sight for sore eyes.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Lance, you’re in TX, right? Which cc do you work at?
August 15th, 2008 at 9:41 am
@ clown: Your comment right there, is what makes the internet so scary.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:44 am
sorry, not trying to be (any more of a) weirdo. I’m just asking cuz I’m in Austin.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Meh, Tennis is like Soccer – the Olympics are not the premier scene for it, so the biggest stars usually don’t win because they bring their B-game and treat it like a warmup for other events.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:46 am
That’s where I’m at too, which is weird cause yesterday CRM said the only way there could be a meet-up of commenters from the south is if we got more computers down here. WELL SEE THAT CRM? THAT’S 2 NOW!
August 15th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Sarah Shahi… SMU alum…
/obligated to mention such things
August 15th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Texas doesn’t count as the south, especially Austin. There are way too many educated people in texas triangle area to lump them in with your friends to the east.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:58 am
I’m in agreement with PurdueMatt – the economy right now is actually a great opportunity for the (relatively) young… good signs indeed.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Austin gets a bad rep thanks to Matthew McConaughey, the hipsters that ruin SXSW every year, and that season that the real world shot here. But it’s a cool town. And Clown, if you live in Austin and root for the Longhorns, maybe when they have a road game we could watch it somewhere.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:11 am
good to see espn is running with the ‘phelps takes fame away from other olympians’ angle
fuck that. where are the stories about kobe and lebron taking away from other nba players? or brett favre and brady getting too much attention? oh wait you wouldnt run those stories because you have the fucking broadcast rights to those sports
August 15th, 2008 at 10:11 am
or USC taking fame away from other college football programs.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:38 am
the economy right now is actually a great opportunity for those not adversely affected by it
/fixed to represent what is always the case in a down turn.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Austin rocks…and when does it get a bad rep? it’s fuckin the tits.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Tiki and Bob are morons and it is nice others notice. Knew I should not read the Aiken story comments; did and want to puke.
Go Gary Payton, sounds a very sound marriage. Does he want to be a Knick?
Was reading the article about Steelers jerk Smith, got to the end and went :”Awesome, another great thing to be proud about for SU!”
Sigh.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:51 am
When has Austin ever gotten a bad rep? It’s the oasis of civility in that region.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Amanda Beard posing is bad because she has horse face.
