that girls has gangrene on her left leg. I could not get past that.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Easier to chop a girl’s leg off than give her a pretty face or hot body. I can work with that.
Why the Browns will be better than the Steelers, written by a Seahawks fan. Guess I can skip that one.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:18 am
The Browns are going to come crashing to reality this season.

One more reason to hate Coldplay

You know how I know Tom Brady’s gay? He macra-made himself jean shorts.

Is the US Navy a TBL sponsor? Did I see that?
August 6th, 2008 at 8:26 am
Navy, Coast Guard, Mariners, Army … they all have our back. We roll deep!

The “how to save money” articles are always repeating the same advice.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:36 am
@ill: Cut back on lattes and contribute to your company’s 401(k). It’s so easy.

Irish – what about Popeyes?

ty willingham, ty wigginton, josh willingham…what the fuck?
that girl in the window article is disgusting. if you want to read an equally horrifying article about child services (it’s a series), check this out.

The comments in that No Fat Girls piece are hillarious.
I think the real losers here are all the kinda hot chicks that make the fat/ugly chicks go out with them so they will look better.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Sound financial advice: don’t spend more than you earn. It’s so easy.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:41 am
The Browns have “let-down” written all over them this year. Enough already. The Steelers O-line sucked last year but Big Ben and Willie Parker both had excellent seasons. Plus, Faneca was on his way downhill, all o-line analysis pointed to that. Why is it suddenly assumed that Derek Anderson is gonna play like he did in the first 10 game sof last year? Can’t wait!
August 6th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Cut back on bar tabs and contribute to your company’s 401(k). It’s so easy.

August 6th, 2008 at 8:44 am
@fatty: I agree. Bengals should walk to 10-6 and the division crown.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:45 am
TBL’s trying to make a brotha’ cry on a wednesday morning with that story “The Girl in the Window”. Two immediate thoughts:
1) The husband, wife, and 10 year old son in the family that adopted her and is taking care of her now are saints.
2) The biological mother should have been prosecuted for attempted murder and child abuse/neglect. Florida should not have made a deal with her so that she would give up all parental and custodial rights.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:45 am
I think Fattyslick is getting nervous… All the Browns’ talk is getting to him
/Woof Woof
August 6th, 2008 at 8:46 am
@NickP : The Bengals, that’s funny! Has Marvin Lewis yet remembered that he used to be a successful defensive coordinator? Seriously?!
August 6th, 2008 at 8:46 am
impossible. no self-respecting American can obtain a quality lifestyle in those conditions.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Why is it assumed that DA won’t improve in the 2nd year of a complex offense that was fairly vanilla last year? Why is it assumed that Stallworth won’t help an already way-above-average passing game? Not to mention that we already know the Browns defense is instantly better than than they were last season with their pick-ups?
August 6th, 2008 at 8:47 am
@cool rick- i prefer KFC, but thanks for offering.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:48 am
i’ll double that up: read the millionaire next door, never carry a CC balance (says the guy who carried a balance on two cards for about 5 years back in my single days)
August 6th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Dirty Sanchez = Paul McCartney?
August 6th, 2008 at 8:49 am
On just the Chicken,
Popeyes > KFC
August 6th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Cursed has got me thinking. With almost everyone predicting a Brows regression this season … watch them go 11-5 and take the division.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:50 am
No, he’s still trying to figure out that whole timeouts/clock management thing. By his 10th year as a HC he’ll have it figured out!
August 6th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Florida should not have made a deal with her so that she would give up all parental and custodial rights.
i couldn’t believe that either. but the system is so screwed up, they probably thought she could actually get that girl back. unbelievable.
Why is it assumed that Stallworth won’t help an already way-above-average passing game?
i don’t even care about stallworth. if braylon and winslow stay healthy for a second straight year, those two alone will be borderline unstoppable. especially since no one in the north has a very good secondary.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:52 am
“probably too depressing for the morning, but a terrific read …”
jeezus .. understatement of the decade.
i’m ruined for the day. just had a baby girl. my fist child. Im rocked.
Thanks.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:52 am
that is the best advice. credit card does not mean you have more money. just more flexibility. this is how so many young people get in trouble.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Hey guys, I’m not saying the Browns are a lock to win the division, I think it will be close – the AFC North have brutal schedules (from the looks of things).
August 6th, 2008 at 8:53 am
TBL would love Dave Ramsey.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:54 am
I’ve got a friend making less money than a manager at Mcdonalds, yet he has his masters and is 55,000 is student loan debt. Any suggestions?? My friend really wants to know!!
August 6th, 2008 at 8:55 am
@cursedcleveland.com : we already know the Browns defense is instantly better that last season with their pickups
I assume u mean Corey Williams and Shuan Rogers, um, what about ur suck-ass secondary? We’ll see how it goes. Gonna love the instant panic that sets in when the Browns open 0-2.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:56 am
kinda ironical yarn related to that. my wife and I decided to get a credit card right after we got married for several reasons (perks, security of not using check card, automatic bill pay…). we both had great credit so we were preapproved for a huge credit limit (in our minds) but decided we would stick with something smaller so that we physically could not spend more than me wake every month. we pay off the card fully every month and probably approach about 90-95% of our credit limit. when we recently bought our house, we found out that both of our credit scores took a hit because we had a credit card and were running up the balance almost full every month, regardless of the fact that we were fully paying it off. we decided to give the credit card company a call to up our credit limit so our scores would not take a hit and were informed that since we spend almost up to our limit every month, we are not allowed to raise our limit, again regardless of the fact we have never carried a balance. we call it getting fucked from both ends.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:58 am
@MikeNYC – I’ve followed a lot of Ramsey’s principles but he’s got some crazy ones too. cliff notes for Dave Ramsey – pay cash for EVERYTHING, including your house.

Po’ Boy from Popeyes >>>> anything at KFC
Unless its a KFC/Long Johns Silver
August 6th, 2008 at 9:00 am
congrats on the baby. always awesome.
but welcome to the club that has their stomach turn into knots every time there is a story that comes out about a child suffering in some way, including death. i hate watching the local news now.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:00 am
cursed – I was in that boat a couple years back. If you are in Ohio, watch out, it could take 6 months to find a decent job (65+).
August 6th, 2008 at 9:01 am
miz -
If that’s the answer you received, you got a bad person on the other line. The CC company should have no problem raising your limit. They really WANT you to keep a balance so that there is interest coming in.
If you get the same advice, ditch the card and get another one. Actually, it doesn’t hurt to have 2 cards anyway. It helps the credit score, because there is more history to determine your risk. It also helps you in case something goes wrong with the 1st card while trying to make a purchase.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Miz – Great story. The move is to not make any credit card purchases if possible in the 2 months leading up to the house purchase. Do your shopping about 6 months prior to purchase, or after you move in, if possible.
But yeah, im a bit surprised they wouldn’t raise your limit. Right now, they want you to spend, spend, spend.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:07 am
thanks for the browns link.
CRM…teams who improve their roster don’t tend to “crash back to reality.”
August 6th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Thanks sparty. I was stunned by the hormone/emotional bomb dropped on me post childbirth. I read all the books and listened to fam/friends but was still floored by what happened.
That story has me busted up like Ron Burgundy post Baxter and bridge incident.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:12 am
best advice i ever received about credit was from my father. get a gas card before any other CC.
personally, now i try to put anything and everything on AMEX. pay it off at the end of the month.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:22 am
@Wally – we thought the response from the credit card co. to wanting a higher limit was a little odd but it’s basically just 10-15 points on our credit scores (I think). we’ll probably try again in the near future but we’re not going to drop the card. we get some pretty good perks for hotel rooms and it makes it easier at the end of the month to balance everything with only transactions only coming from one credit card and the few checks we still have to write.
@TBL – thanks for giving me that little tidbit AFTER we bought a house. jsut kidding. that’s great advice to boost the credit score before purchasing a house. it’s amazing how having great credit can add a 0.25% reduction to the final rate and how much money that 0.25% less in interest adds up to save over the life of the mortgage.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:27 am
People are asking me why I’m crying at work. I tell them it’s because of deadbeat mothers.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:28 am
I don’t even know what to say about this story. Easily top 5 saddest things I ever read. When you have a kid, you can’t imagine why a parent would neglect a child in the way this kid was neglected.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:30 am
the way I see ppl use credit cards and advertised, I sometimes wonder if I’m one of the only 50 college students in America who doesn’t have one nor wants one
btw on that child in the mirror story…yea, I got nothing say other then that is just messed up
August 6th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Miz…always carry a small amount on your credit card to help with you credit score…they like for someone to have debt but always have the ability to pay on time..it’s retarded…I didn’t use a credit card (had one) for years and when I went to buy my house..my wife with $10K debt had a better score than me you debt should equate to 10-20% of you income and you are considered a good risk…but make them raise your line threaten to cancel and they should offer it
August 6th, 2008 at 9:36 am
Well, I couldnt finish the fucking article, but I can catch a flight to St. Pete today and pick up a pistol by like 3:30.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:41 am
@RWH – as we chronicled yesterday, I am a cheap bastard and that also reflects my insecurities with debt. if it helps to have CC debt even though we can pay it off at any moment, we will still likely choose to carry no CC balance from one month to the next unless it is a gigantic boost. we will likely threaten to drop the card though if they decided to not up our limit next time we ask.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:42 am
@cool – you can stop by my crib on your way to pick up that piece. unfortunately, I have to work so I can’t go with you.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:44 am
@ReaderM… Get a credit card. Use it for one or two things a month (gas?). Pay it off monthly. It helps build a good credit rating for you, which will be important in the long run.
The days of getting credit like it grows on trees is about over. The banks have started to tighten down and it will get worse before it gets better. Getting a card for “emergencies” is a good idea. Using it a couple of times a month (not the bar tab!) is also a good idea.
@Miz… Don’t cancel your current card. Leave it in your wallet (or safe at home) and get another one. It does not hurt your score to have 2 (or 3) credit cards. In fact, it helps your rating by showing that you have the ability to use the credit wisely.
And DON’T leave a balance on your card monthly! Pay that sucker off to avoid the high interest rate charges. The credit score is a whacked process. It tends to not make sense in some cases. Most companies have NO IDEA how to use a credit report or determine limits for customers.
The score is a half assed way to look at it. It takes a multitude of factors into account, including how much credit is at your disposal, how many credit lines do you have, how long have you had them, how much of the credit are you using, have you been late (30+ days late), write-offs, bankruptcies, foreclosures, the number of inquiries made to your credit report, and more that I haven’t added here. If you ask most places that offer credit, they couldn’t tell you what goes into the credit score. If you ask a credit bureau, they’ll tell you (off the record) that the score isn’t the best way to determine a customer’s likelihood to default.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:49 am
miz – you got a good place to dump the bodies? No, wait, I can leave them in thier own shit and cockroaches.

wanted to use a Donnie Brasco feeding to lions reference, but these bags have probably never been to a zoo.

of crouse I do, cool. it’s Florida; there’s a plethora of swamps with hungry gators everywhereno, I don’t really know of anywhere, coolAugust 6th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Once again, I am amazed why the state thinks that all children belong with their biological mothers. That fathers in divorce need to fight for their kids, because all moms are great and would never do anything to hurt their kids…DCF here is a joke!
August 6th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Holy shit. That “Girl in the Window” article was probably the most depressing/amazing thing I’ve read lately. I mean “amazing” in the sense that I’m continually amazed at the depths of depravity and ignorance some people are capable of. I have two little kids of my own, who I am thankful for every second of every day–this story makes it even more so. I can’t control what others do or don’t do, but I can do my absolute best to give my kids the best that they deserve.
Wow. just…wow.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Back into the fantasyland of sports–Favre’s still a douchebag.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:20 am
That article about Dani is depressing; but somehow they are making it work. Good on them. One of the best articles I have read in a long time. Thank TBL!
May Favray send interceptions willy nilly all over football fields in America this year. And I used to love watching him. Asswipe.
