Wrapping up this Jimmy Clausen Business
College Football August 6th. 2008, 10:30am
So about those Clausen photos: Yeesh. Jeff Carroll, in a column for the South Bend Tribune wrote:
By the standards of the My Space era, they are quite tame. No one is vomiting, no one is passed out. Everyone is fully clothed. When viewed in comparison to some of the troublesome recent goings-on in other major college football programs, such as Penn State, the photos are more than mild.
Agree completely. Carroll could have added Georgia, too. Clausen won’t get in any trouble, nor should he. Tough spot for the kid - he’s a virtual celebrity on campus, as is any QB at ND. Of course people are going to break out the cameras when he shows up at parties, and of course Clausen is going to attend parties, which college kids should do. Again, we find nothing wrong this photo - and we feel the same way about the Matt Leinart pictures that emerged earlier this year.
Athletes unwind in the offseason, and often, this will - and should - include partying. Assuming the Clausen photos were not taken from August-December … where’s the beef?
Irish QB Jimmy Clausen and at least two teammates face alcohol-use investigation (Chicago Tribune)
BONUS! With some prodding, we’re going to reveal one classy email from an ND fan whose email shall remain hidden:
Hey,
What kind of scum sucking cunt posts pictures of college kids drinking beer at a party?
I don’t give a shit if it was J**** F**king Ch****, only a worthless cocksucker trades in this kind of shit.
Fuck you.
[name redacted]
For like 18 minutes yesterday, after this email and many others, we nearly stopped loving the Notre Dame fight song. Fact: It was downloaded onto our last ipod. There are few greater things in life than getting in a morning workout on Saturdays in the fall, going for a run, and hearing that song as we get primed for a day in front the couch watching college football.

I’m not religous or anything but, isn’t there a famous painting somewhere where Jesus Fucking Christ is seen drinking with 12 other people and a dinner party?
August 6th, 2008 at 10:35 am
And yet, you feel the need to keep saying so. Methinks you doth protest too much.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:36 am
*at a dinner party
August 6th, 2008 at 10:36 am
I guess my question is, if there is nothing wrong with the photo and it’s not a big deal, why post it?
August 6th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Hey,
What kind of scum sucking cunt posts pictures of college kids drinking beer at a party?
I don’t give a shit if it was me, only a worthless cocksucker trades in this kind of shit.
Fuck you.
Touchdown Jesus
August 6th, 2008 at 10:36 am
that email is hilarious. it’s like the guy is so pissed but knows that he would do the same thing, and has no good points to make. so he just gets vulgar.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Jesus, I thought your middle initial was “H”, not “F”
August 6th, 2008 at 10:38 am
That’s pretty strong language for such a devout Catholic

August 6th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Jesus Fucking Christ? never heard of ‘im.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:42 am
College kids drinking? GASP!
Then again, the ND response is about what I’d expect from a program that’s gone for powerhouse to super joke.
ND, this isn’t the 70s or 80s. You are no longer relevant. And apparently, no longer classy.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:42 am
i wonder what the backlash of these pictures would be if it was Golic’s kid. TBL would probably get taken out by a sniper or something. ESPN would shut you down again.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Mike: Yeah, I went with the popularized version. Shakespeare had a couple of good ideas but his syntax was downright awful.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Bottom line Notre Dame sucks. There a bunch of pussies and cubs fans.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:45 am
August 6th, 2008 at 10:46 am
TBL, I got the feeling that Dan Patrick was talking down to you yesterday. Did you get that feeling? I’d be curious to know. Especially with that last comment of “stay away from me”. Thoughts? I just felt it to be a bit smug.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:46 am
But should add if you knew he was going to be grilling you about these photos, then I suppose you were expecting it.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:47 am
where’s the beef?
Been wondering that since this kid’s hype machine went national.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:47 am
TBL..I had major issues with the Lineart pics..they were taken at his house..it’s invasion of Privacy…Clausen’s pics may have been public..but the silly defense that you and Deadspin and this like give is silly…you guys are invading the privacy of athletes…you are the Enquirer…you are OK!..you are the Star…is it illegal what you do..of course not..but your morals are very very lose.and it is the one of the shadier this you guys do on under the guise of it’s OK they are athletes having fun..its bullshit
August 6th, 2008 at 10:47 am
There are few greater things in life than … hearing that song as we get primed for a day in front the couch watching Notre Dame get throttled by Air Force.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:48 am
made me laugh, loudly
August 6th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Generally, the college kids who were drinking beer at the party the pictures are from, you fucking idiot.
Wow. I find that extremely hard to believe. A picture of Jesus Christ playing beer games - present day, mind you - would probably be the most significant photo of the last… oh… 2000 or so years?
Trades in? What does that even mean?
No - Fuck you.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Roman, you mean the Will Leitch defense of “we’re just trying to humanize the athletes” didn’t fly with you?
Yeah, me neither.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:50 am
+1 to you my friend. lol.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Did CRM just try to give the Fire Joe Morgan treatment to a taunting emailer?
August 6th, 2008 at 10:51 am
This stuff was put in the public domain, tbl would be remiss not to post/talk about it. I feel sorry for the cuntling at ND, but he’ll get over it. Leinart though, he got hosed. It should’ve been a non-issue, but because of his USC reputation it got blown way out of proportion.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Ive been to 2 beer olympics this summer and all I can say is its awesome I dont blame Clausen but hes still a Fag for playing for Notre Dame.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:53 am
CRM >> CharlieWade
August 6th, 2008 at 10:53 am
@tallguy: But would these stories even reach people if Leinart and Clausen were leading their teams to titles and postseason wins?
No one cares what you do when you’re winning. Everyone seems to care what you do when you’re not leading your team anywhere.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:55 am
I don’t blame Claussen for having fun and I don’t blame Leinart for having ladies in the Hot Tub…I blame us for being looky loos and having to devour it..and it doesn’t not humanize them..it compartmentalizes them even more..makes them no-human and turns them in to Movie stars…and the more it happens our relationship with the athlete as human will disapate more and more…athletes were the more relateable celebrities we had..that is going away
August 6th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Didn’t think about it at the time, but now that you mention it …
The odd thing was that we sprung right into action. No hi, hello, how do you do, just all business. That was weird.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:56 am
I couldn’t disagree with this more. This is the equivalent of my kid saying, “but everyone else was doing it too.” I don’t give a shit if Jesus Fucking Christ was posting the pictures, show some class and/or restraint.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:56 am
/doesn’t humanize…I made a double negative..bad bad English
August 6th, 2008 at 10:56 am
@fredo
You think those pictures wouldn’t have gotten out if they’d been winners? hardly..I mean, Riley Skinner is basically god at Wake Forest yet his nude photos got plastered all over the place. If you’re a prominent athlete, and you let your hair down, you better look out for any and all camera/phones. The pictures will get out and if you’re high-profile enough, it will be made an issue.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Huh? The girls who took the pics put them up on their myspace or whatever for everyone to see.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Again, who gives a shit? This is “they’ve got it coming” logic. What’s next, they asked to be embarrassed because they’re talented?
August 6th, 2008 at 10:59 am
And you gave them a much bigger forum.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:59 am
TBL…I did not mean legally..but the guy wasn’t out in public..he was at his house..I don’t care where it was posted..it was wrong…I don’t like it..no defense will make me thing that that shit is Gossip Rag garbage and it make me sick
August 6th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Full disclosure: I’m Matt Leinart.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:59 am
And what of these Georgia players, partying with females from last year?
There are probably tons of examples of college athletes partying on the web.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:00 am
If it were at someone else’s house, would that make them ok?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Jason..it doesn’t make it right..I don;t care where it is..it is fucking wrong
August 6th, 2008 at 11:00 am
I’m not sure of the point here.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Someone else’s house..no
August 6th, 2008 at 11:01 am
The pictures will get out and if you’re high-profile enough, it will be made an issue.
Whether or not the pics will get out is debatable. After all, who’s taking the photos? (Side note: this is why all cell phones should be collected prior to a bachelor party).
But the best examples I can give are Tom Brady and Derek Jeter. They’re young, rich, famous and have famous and beautiful women next to them all the time. When’s the last time we’ve seen pics of Brady getting hammered? Or a pic of Jeter with 3 hookers?
The other point is that Leinart and Clausen and Skinner and even Vince Young are big fish in little ponds. Hence they do something dumb and everyone pays attention.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:01 am
I could go eighteen different ways with this, but you’ve made your mind up, and I respect that. There’s no converting you. We’ll have to agree to disagree.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:01 am
@fredo: people were talking about Leinart when he was still at USC and winning games. It doesn’t really matter if they are winning or not, people care what they are doing.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:02 am
The point is you took something form some chicks My Space page that no one reds and centralized it for what..80-100000 people? and then sent it to other blogs to link to it? You spread the trash like it was news. You talked about responsibility once..you don’t adhere to it
August 6th, 2008 at 11:02 am
I’m not sure why Clausen or Leinhert should be ‘embarrassed’ over those pics… maybe they have to say they are, but there’s nothing wrong with anything in either set. People just grab onto those things because it’s somebody they want to rip anyways… I mean, I’m cool with that, but we all realize that’s what it is, right?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Well TBL, I’ve concluded that Dan Patrick is a Dbag. The whole time I was listening I kept thinking Jasons stuck and is getting blindsided. Did he know this is what he was going to be talking about?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Look - professional athletes and high-profile college athletes know exactly what they’re getting into, and they have a choice. If Jimmy Clausen wanted to be a no-name, he could a) chosen to go to a school that doesn’t have the media exposure of ND; b) chosen not to play football; c) chosen not to take a limo to announce his school decision, etc., etc. Claussen can fade into oblivian whenever he feels like it. Same with Leinhart - if Leinhart didn’t want to deal with scrutiny, he can retire and live at home with his millions of dollars banked.
TBL is getting notoriety for his site, getting additional visitors, etc. Therefore, he did the same as any sane capitalist would have done… there is nothing immoral about it.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:04 am
So TBL thought Dan Patrick was just going to shoot the shit with him?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Well, Tom Brady and Derek Jeter aren’t college-age kids who grew up in the myspace/facebook era. Instead of their friends posting pictures of them on sites, they get chased by the paparazzi who get PAID for the pictures.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Using the word “people” to win an argument is the same as saying stupid like “society is racist.”
The world isn’t static and unchanging. “People” want it now and feeding their hunger for it will make them want it more. TBL, take the high road and get away from this garbage. You’re much, much better than this.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:04 am
They do have it coming…it’s the price you pay as a high-profile individual. I’m not saying I like it, but you can’t put the genie back into the bottle. If you’re famous, everything you do is scrutinized, so you have to deal with it. Be careful, don’t do things that while normal for college kids, will get you plastered on blogs everywhere. It’s no different from being a movie star or a politician…sorry if you don’t like the way fame and publicity works, but tough shit. I don’t see him complaining about the girls throwing themselves at him, or the free tuition he’s getting. He’s a public figure, he’ll have to learn to deal with the lack of privacy in this day and age.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:05 am
August..Vince Young was..said it here in between shoe plugs…He shouldn’t be embarrassed but no one wants that out there about themselves..especially when it has nothing to do with his job performance
August 6th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Yup, and we all agree that the paparazzi are dickbags, what’s your point.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:06 am
I don’t know cbh, have you listened to it on itunes?
/didn’t like patrick to begin with, so I may be a little biased.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:06 am
You can put the genie back into the bottle…by not posting the pics and saying why. Why is having standards looked at like an impossible goal anymore?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:06 am
You sure you’re ready to make that argument?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Hef and I agree strongly on this issue.
/Apocalypse
August 6th, 2008 at 11:07 am
No, but my point is what else would Patrick talk to him about.
TBL scrutinizes things every day, if he was scrutinized for something he did, can’t say I feel sorry for him.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:08 am
he posts the shit because its kind of funny. hammered athletes are ALWAYS funny
August 6th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Mike..I know it’s scary..
August 6th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Mike and I agree on a lot of things. He just assumes we don’t because we belong to different political parties. He should know better than this by now since neither of us are party line guys (right?).
August 6th, 2008 at 11:09 am
I agree with cbh. Was he going to ask him how his wife was? Play the “remember when” game?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:10 am
As long as we all worship at the alter of Tatis I have no problems…
August 6th, 2008 at 11:10 am
You got it, Hef.
So TBL was on Dan Patrick yesterday? No link?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Hef…remember when you me and your wife had that margarita night and you passed out? and we all woke up naked? How is she doing?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:11 am
This is why I’d rather more soccer and MMA discussions.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:11 am
I can see your point, but I’m just a naive midwesterner who doesn’t think much about people being dicks. This is why I could never be in media.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:11 am
I don’t get the outrage over TBL posting the pictures. Famous or not, if you pose for a picture then you gotta realize there is a good chance other people will see that picture. Stop blaming TBL for posting the picture and tell Clausen not to be such a fucking retard (and yes I am a ND fan) and pose for drinking game picture when he is underage.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:12 am
hammered athletes are ALWAYS funny
Funniest one was the Eddin Griffin post when he was wasted, driving and beating off all at the same time. And the mexican guy said “he was masterbaiting him self”.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Dan Patrick was just pissed that TBl posted the pics before he could get them up on his “big show” site.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:13 am
blazers has hit the nail on the head here. drunk athletes are funny, scantily clad famous chicks are hot, blind items are interesting, and all of these things are “unbeholden” because TBL enjoys it and it’s his blog. if he’s auditioning for a serious journalist job opportunity, the gossip shit probably doesn’t boost the resume, but if he’s trying to make money based on what he’s interested in, then mission accomplished here at The Big Lead.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Here’s my question — if you agree that photos were very tame, not a big deal in comparison to others, and just another photo of what college kids normally do, why post it? What’s the news/shock value if that’s the case?
Basically, I just want you to admit you offer opinions on movies for the sole purpose of getting comments, i.e. page views, which is what the Clausen post was too.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:14 am
@Hef: Isn’t the “he’s a public figure” argument that you denounce just as bad as the “kids will be kids” (or derivatives of that)?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:14 am
Coach K, I pray you catch some serious disease during your stay in China.
/Terp fan
August 6th, 2008 at 11:14 am
wrong on both counts. somebody saw it on the facebook page of the NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL PLAYER WHO POSTED THE PHOTO and passed it along. didn’t send it to any other sports blogs.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:15 am
My comment was addressing the person who said you never see pictures of Tom Brady and Derek Jeter with their friends doing beer bongs or playing beer olympics. I would assume that since a) they’re in their 30’s and b) they have paparazzi chasing them, they probably have a group of friends who aren’t into playing beer pong and snapping photos of them in embarassing situations so they can post them on their myspace pages for everyone to see.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:15 am
nWilson, I don’t think you’re naive at all. I think people like TBL and it is their natural reaction to defend him in everything.
I like TBL as well but that doesn’t mean he get’s a pass for everything and I think he is always right.
\It fucking sucks that on a sports blog I have to proofread every post
August 6th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Did VY pose for that pic? Looks like it was snapped when his eyes were closed. Or should he know better than to interact with other “humans.” He should probably just be a shut in.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Lozo, I asked the same question.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:17 am
I’m sorry, I still don’t see how this is ‘garbage.’ I certainly think there is a fine line between college and pro athletes when it comes to photos, but these Clausen ones were harmless, fun photos.
If they’re not decked out in red satin jackets (?) i probably wouldn’t have posted them.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:20 am
still disagree. Movies - just an opinion of mine that this is what guys like. we all don’t like baseball, we all don’t like soccer - everyone likes movies.
when you sit around with the guys, what do you shoot the shit about? that’s kind of the approach I take here at times (esp with the movies).
and with blogs, there’s no ‘page view’ glory. you get one or two (posts that jump). that’s it. if i added galleries, then you could make that claim. but it’s not like with a blog you can get tons of page views.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:20 am
tbL..so because some troll was looking at the facebook page of a NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL PLAYER… like that makes any of this any better…you can justify putting it up..last I check I need to let someone be my “friend” before they can loo at my pics..so this guy was a friend of THE NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL PLAYER…that guy is a scumbag…and you are dong pretty well having interviews with Dan Partick and having Newspaers interview you..I am sure that increases site readership
August 6th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Nick: that is hardly my argument. It may be a facet of it, but to reduce it to that phrase ignores everything else I’ve said. More later, I have a meeting. Or email me.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Beer pong fucking sucks anyway. He needs to be playing flip cup.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:22 am
I stand somewhere in the middle on this issue, but this post answers one of the other major issues: who keeps bloggers accountable - in this case it is the commenters
August 6th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Flip cup is for girls…Full Contact Beirut…it is the American way
August 6th, 2008 at 11:22 am
@lozo and I guess Hef too - maybe TBL posts these things because he finds them entertaining and it’s his blog. I’m probably representing myself as a TBL cocksucker, but I’m only trying to point out that each of you have your own blog with your own ideas and are successful in the way you present material that you prefer. you likely post things that you find entertaining that others find revolting (lozo - too much poop talk, Hef - too much baseball talk). don’t both of you have fun doing it while hoping that your posts generat comments?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:23 am
This is a good point. I saw some people ripping the guy columnist who wrote about Erin Andrews. Uh, what about Erin Andrews? The column doesn’t happen if Andrews isn’t dress for a bar, and the players and coach make comments.
As for Clausen, I rarely see highly-recruited QBs playing for the most popular school in the country wearing a red satin jacket and cyclist shorts (?) playing flip cup. but that’s just me.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Sorry cbh, I only said something because you said your journalism major wasn’t a walk in the park, but you use the wrong “your” in almost every single comment. I promise not to call you out for the mistake any more even if it drives me nuts.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Thanks, I wouldn’t care if you did it to everyone. TBL doesn’t use capitalization in his comments, and it’s his blog, if you were going to go after anyone I would think it would be him. But we’re cool, not that it matters.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:26 am
I will work on it though Sportsgal, at least you made me aware.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:27 am
So to benefit yourself it is OK to post drinking pictures of a College kid? Because he was in a satin jacket? If yuo don’t think the morals are loose there I don’t know what to say. It’s trash.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:28 am
CBH…don’t Kowtow to her…your allowed to comment as you wish..if only she cood understand that
August 6th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Flip cup is for girls…Full Contact Beirut…it is the American way
Exactly thats why I play filp cup the hoes love it. Im not sure what Full contact Beirut is but it sounds pretty gay.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Flip Cup and Beer Pong both rule, they get you wasted, how can you hate on them?
If you hate Beer Pong you probably suck at it.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:31 am
and i agree, flip cup > beer pong
August 6th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Edward Forty Hands is probably better than the combination of flip cup, beer pong, and Full Contact Beirut.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:31 am
+1 RWH
August 6th, 2008 at 11:32 am
cbh, I’ve called out other people for the mistake, but at this point there are so many people doing it, I have to try and ignore it. I’m not a total grammar nazi, it’s just the your/you’re there/their/they’re thing is a total pet peeve of mine. I don’t understand how people can have a college education and still say YOUR welcome.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:32 am
cbh, just call her out for turning anymore into two words.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:33 am
flip is better for getting the girls involved…team atmosphere more people playing at the same time make it the best party game around
beer pong is more competitive tho
August 6th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Your welcome mat is muddy.
/college degrees in action
August 6th, 2008 at 11:34 am
What’s better, flip cup or survivor flip cup?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:35 am
mmonast - have you ever played Edward Forty Hands? If you have to take a piss you locate a girl to help you with the process. I don’t know any better form of involvement.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:36 am
I do like survivor flip cup..that is a good point
August 6th, 2008 at 11:37 am
MILF Island Flip Cup > Survivor Flip Cup > Flip Cup
August 6th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I think the problem with posting these pictures is that they are tame, but since Claussen is under the drinking age that is stupidly 21, it will advesely affect his life. Leinart could be embarrassed, but had no real ramifications. Claussen now has to face a disciplinary investigation, partly due to the exposure provided by TBL. With this scenario, the right thing to do is not post these pictures.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:37 am
MILF Island Flip Cup
Please elaborate, what is this?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Wow, I’ve never seen such a voracious defense of such a certifiable douchebag. Lets not confuse Jimmy Clausen with a typical hardworking college athlete. He is a spoiled, priveledged, cocky, douchebag in every possible way.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:38 am
So to benefit yourself it is OK to post drinking pictures of a College kid? Because he was in a satin jacket? If yuo don’t think the morals are loose there I don’t know what to say. It’s trash.
You sound like a Catholic Nun and a pussy. Play your full contct Beirut and watch your Benny Hen. TBL I want to see more people drunk. You should post a whole bunch of drunken althlete pics. You need to make a statment and that statment is Suck it! and quit getting drunk on camera or Im gonna post it because its funny.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Every time we try to have a beer pong tourney all the fucking wives and girlfriends lose and try to turn it into flip cup. while i like flip cup, only females like it better than beer pong

survivor flip cup?
and ya played Edwards 40 hands but we did it where u are paired with a girl and i got teamed up with the most miserable bitch on the planet
August 6th, 2008 at 11:39 am
I think we need to lighten this thing up a bit…
I’m looking for the rules/defitions of Full Contact Beirut and Edward 40 Hands. These may come in handy during the fall.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:39 am
8 horny teenage boys, 20 smokin’ hot MILFs on one island… with no rules!
/30 Rock
August 6th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Yep, I guess this Jimmy Clausen busines is all wrapped up. I see everyone’s point on this issue, but ultimately I think miz pointed out that it’s TBL’s playground to do what he likes. The original post only has 40 comments, and it doesn’t look as though anyone was very appalled at the time(looking at you RWH). I’m just killing some time at work hanging out here, and if lives have to be ruined for that and my amusement, well, so be it.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Survivor flip cup you vote people out on your team after you lose, usually whoever cost you the game.
You still drink the same amount of cups though, I once was down 4 to 1 in survivor flip cup and came back to get it down to 1 on 1, one of my most glorious moments.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:41 am
edwards 40 hands is where you have 40oz beers duct taped to your hands no sure on the full contact i would guess you can run after the ball after a shot is missed fight for the rebound?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Yeah Tampa BO..a guy who plays Flip cup calls me pussy…fuck you..I am sorry I want some accountability and some morals on fucking over a 20 year old kid..or at least an admission that all of this is used for attention and to benefit TBL..If we played Full Contact Ruit..you would see who the pussy is you cocksucker
August 6th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Survivor flip cup sounds awesome.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:42 am
you know what I like better? Beer an inning during Reds games. I gets you real fucked up and you have to be to watch that shit
August 6th, 2008 at 11:42 am
cbh, it’s not a real thing, do you watch 30 Rock? In one episode, everyone in the office was watching a show called MILF Island that was supposed to be like Survivor. I’ve never heard of Survivor Flip Cup, so I just went with the show reference.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:42 am
cbh never played it…sounds great thogh i will be sure to get that going at my bachelor party next weekend
August 6th, 2008 at 11:43 am
hey RWH - has MLJ acquired a Billy Wagner server? I can’t seem to get back in.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:43 am
tampa bo everyone here knows Roman is a pussy it’s no secret
mmonast- maybe there are other definitions but Edward 40 hands is when you duct tape a 40 into each one of your hands. Good times.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Edward 40 Hands - you duct-tape one forty ouncer to each hand. You have to drink both 40s prior to doing anything else. If you have to piss, then you immediately locate the hottest chick that you can find to provide you with some aid. Good times had by all… but you’d better drink fast, because a warm 40 tastes like goat piss.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:43 am
@RWH isnt this whole website used for attention to benefit TBL?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:43 am
TBL Posting embarassing pictures of unsuspecting athletes in a private moment = journalism, they asked for it.
TBL being grilled about it on the Dan Patrick Show = blindsided.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Highball..my comment was to clarify that they did this because of Beer Fest..I also said there was nothing wrong with what Jimmy was doing..I have been commenting here for 2 years..TBL knows my views on the subject I have commented on plenty of things I have not approved of..and half of these comments turn into conversations about something else
August 6th, 2008 at 11:44 am
fetch isnt that what i said?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:44 am
If we played Full Contact Ruit..you would see who the pussy is you cocksucker
What is this Full contact Ruit? It sounds like you have some pent up aggression and you might be a Notre Dame Fan. Sounds like someone needs to play a little flip cup.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:45 am
I have to agree, enjoyed the post not because of the Clausen mess but because for the most part, a nice discourse on what people think is acceptable on blogs
and for any grammar issues that have occurred, I must confess that I use my English/Lit classes to either finish some homework/project for my other class or catch up on sleep
August 6th, 2008 at 11:45 am
blazers..sure..but he uses these as attention getters…just say it…don’t justifiy it
August 6th, 2008 at 11:45 am
mmonast- I meant Wally’s World, my bad. I should learn how to read.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:45 am
congrats on your impending wedding, mmonast. I direct you to this exchange from yesterday…
August 6th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Damnit, sportsgal. Now every thread is going to have like 5 people saying sorry for bad grammar.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:46 am
RWH, this is not the kid from Clemson who was raising his little brother, or some other quality human. Clausen is a piece of shit, he’s spoiled rotten (daddy bought, yes bought, him a house on campus). He announced his decision to go to ND at the college football HOF, after arriving in a stretch hummer, while wearing all of his state champoinship rings, and talked of winning multiple titles at ND. This is only the surface of his douchebaggery.
You can argue in general terms about the accountability of posting pictures of college kids, but you can’t defend Clausen, he brought this on himself.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:48 am
I completely see where you are coming from, and if not for the quirky outfits, I probably would not have posted them. I don’t know about his life being altered by this; was his life altered when he was cited for the alcohol transportation as a freshman?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Tampa I hate Notre Dame..I hate College Football
Full Contact Beirut
12 cups a side set up in Triangles of 6
Condensed once at 6 cups
2 balls
All balls are live meaning if you miss the other guy can go for the ball at all costs- has to have hit a cup or table first to go for ball..can’t pull it out of air before it arrives t the target
2 balls one cup wins
2 shots in a row gets the ball back but the 1-2 can be broken up by throwing your ball before the opposing team can get teh second shot off
August 6th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Clausen is a douche because his dad is well off? What about the rings, were those bought or did he earn those by winning?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Who used the word ‘blindsided?’
August 6th, 2008 at 11:49 am
He announced his decision to go to ND at the college football HOF, after arriving in a stretch hummer, while wearing all of his state champoinship rings, and talked of winning multiple titles at ND.
He should have went to USC or LSU if he wanted to win rings not weak ND.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Darrell- When Jimmy Clausen is selling insurance in Gary, Indiana in 5 years maybe he’ll understand that daddy didn’t do him any favors by buying him a house.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:51 am
thanks for that miz…its good to know that in about 4 months sex will occur only after an expensive night or on birthdays/anniversaries
cant wait for married life!
August 6th, 2008 at 11:51 am
I hate College Football
But why? It’s so pure and untainted!
August 6th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Sportsgal, no don’t watch it.
You watch Weeds, please tell me it grossed you out when the son was jerking it to pictures of his Mom.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Hey August, weren’t you at Wrigley this week?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Anybody here own NCAA 09? Is it worth it? Also who is getting Madden next week?
August 6th, 2008 at 11:54 am
mmonast..its not that bad…I get nookie sometimes when I do stuff I normally don’t do like cleaning somehting…I make sure to hold out on those chores until I am in the need for a little nookie…I did laundry the other day..unasked..it was like i brought her a car
August 6th, 2008 at 11:55 am
mmonast—
whatever dude, bucking the trend isnt hard. dont listen to em. banging the wifey should be easy
August 6th, 2008 at 11:55 am
cbh, it totally grossed me out.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:55 am
Coach, my roomate has it. I think it is good, and I pre ordered Madden yesterday.
Actually, we all know Favre will suck this year, the Madden curse!
August 6th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Speaking of which, I have secret pictures of Roman and his wife
August 6th, 2008 at 11:57 am
I do not think it will have a devastating impact, I am sure he is going to be fine. However, it is something he would have to deal with, whether he is a douche or not.
His freshman citation has altered his life, because he now will probably have enhanced penalties in this latest investigation because it is not his first issue with alcohol.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:57 am
- mizerle, good points on what is essentially a “to each his own” as it comes to blog content, especially the part about MLJ having too much baseball.
- i disagree with the clausen pics and i can’t stand clausen or ND. some of the best time i ever had at a game was last years PSU whiteout game watching him get pounded by the nittany lions.
- dan patrick always comes off as smug and sanctimonious. just look at the ridiculous picture of him with his cigar on his web page and you get the vibe. or listen to him.
- cool_rick, i hope you’re noticing some of the stronger comments and who they are coming from.
- fresh sweet corn is tasty.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:58 am
@ SG: yup. I was there Monday for the tornado game… it was great!
August 6th, 2008 at 11:58 am
@fetch - I tried to ogle RWH and Mrs. RWH and got a block with the following message -

I have NCAA 09 and love it, but like every year, Im sure madden is better.

August 6th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
god damnit, mize. It’s jabba the hutt and leia. If I have to spell it out it ruins the joke.
darrell- apparently you never had to work for anything?
August 6th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
I have to say, every Cubs fan we talked to was cool as shit and wanted to make sure we had a good time… my lady and I got some ribbing for wearing Astros hats, but it was all good.
Wrigleyville was a blast before the game
August 6th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Probably me tbl, blindsighted probably wasn’t the best word, just throwing an ideal out there. What I was meaning to portray was were you informed that you were going to be questioned in the manner in which you were.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Nothing will come of this investigation. Well, that’s my prediction, anyway.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
@miz… that’s random as shit! There’s some god footage on youtube of how crazy the wind and rain were, and of the crowd getting restless after they herded us all into the concourse.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
ah, ok Darrell. I see now.
No, i was aware of the topic beforehand. Definitely no blindsiding. The ’stay away from me’ line must have flown over my head.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
August, you were here for Lollapalooza too, right? What did you think?
What bars did you check out before the game?
August 6th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I took the Stay away from me line as a DP snarky comment more than a blast…still I don’t like DP so whatever
August 6th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
+1 to you sir that made me laugh its true though i did all this shit at the house last night before she came home and she acted like she has never been happier

August 6th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
SG, Lolla was awesome… went 2 years ago as well and I swear that’s the best run festival in the country. Saul Williams tore the place apart (it was a 3 way tie with Wilco and NIN for best show), but the highlight was seeing Slash show-up by surprise with Perry Farrel on a tiny side stage… we were about 20 feet away. They played Mountain Song, Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, Jane Says and a few others…
We did most of our pre-game drinking at John Barleycorn and the Red Ivy. Were you at that game?
August 6th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
the best is when you remember some obscure fact about one of her friends. shows u actually listen or something…they love that
“so i was with karen the other day..”
“karen…did she ever find her dog that ran away”
–she will shoot you a look of happiness/amazement then walk upstairs, good times will follow
August 6th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
She was happy because she didn’t have to nag you 1000 times to get something done, you just went and did it yourself.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
exactly SG its all about under promise/over deliver
August 6th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
August, I don’t think we saw any of the same bands. I heard about Slash showing up at the Perry stage, but I was seeing another band at the time. I thought the acts at the Citi stage were pretty kick ass, and am now a big fan of Spank Rock and The Whigs.
I think you might have gone to the two worst bars in Wrigleyville before the game! I wasn’t at Wrigley, but I live three blocks from the park, so I was in the middle of the storm as well. That’s the second time in three years the damn tornado sirens went off.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
what sportsgal said:
what I heard:
August 6th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
@mmonast–
be careful, you keep doing that shit and she’ll start expecting it to be done
August 6th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
I saw a good chunk of the Whigs… they’re a great listen! Did you go to Rage? I heard it was nuts…
August 6th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
thats why i throw in something like this:
“so you took a towel out of a dryer for yourself this morning but didnt get one for me and you just left them all in there for me to do?”
/phone call about an hr ago
August 6th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
@blazers - you show naivete
and wisdom too
August 6th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Thank god I’m not married. These comments prove men are idiots.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
f’ing awesome! +1 mmonast. what say you, sportsgal?
August 6th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
sportsgal, you have the unique perspective of seeing the male side of the argument before you ever have the opportunity for the situation. you should be thankful and making many mental notes.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
I went to about half of the Rage show, then went over to Wilco. I was getting annoyed by Rage because they kept stopping mid-song and telling people not to crush each other. What idiot camps out in front of the stage for Rage and doesn’t expect to be squashed or in the middle of a mosh pit?
August 6th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Comma splices are for degenerates, sportsgal.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
sportsgal if you are interested i bet this handsome browns fan would be available to date if you don’t mind long distance relationships
August 6th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
+1 NickP.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
The only reason people seem to be questioning TBL’s posting of the pics is because the guys are athletes? So its ok to post youtube videos and pics of random guys getting tasered by cops or the girl who flashed the jumbrotron at the grizzlies game because who have no idea who they are? Seems to me like a double standard. Funny pics that are in the public domain are just that, in the public domain.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
extremely late to this post. but CRM, your breakdown of that email may have been the funniest thing i have read in quite sometime.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
I don’t get the Clausen is a douche because dad bought him a house at ND. I’ll probably buy a house for my daughter to live in when she goes to college. For example, you pay $150K for the house and have her and her roommates pay rent for 4 years and then sell the house for $175K. Seems like a good idea to me.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
How old is your kid? Are you planning on making her and her friends live in a total shit hole? I can’t see any decent house selling for $150K in a college town 10 years from now.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
All houses are shit holes in college towns.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Rage is awesome. I saw them at the Rosemont Horizon in 2000.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
@pulled - I don’t know if $150k is reasonable for a decent house, but the idea is absolute money, if you can afford it. some of my college friends had parents that bought them a condo or house and divided the mortgage payment by the number of roommates as rent. even if you lose $20k over a 4 year college tenure, you probably still come out ahead when comparing to student housing and apartment rent.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
/fixed
August 6th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Even though all college kids drink, it can’t look good if Clausen is still underage. He is isn’t he?
August 6th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
While I stand by the fact that Clausen is a spoiled POS, that is not reason enough to treat him like a celeb, so let me further explain.
He has been a quasi-celebrity since the age of 15. He and his family have done everything in their power to raise his profile and create the “Jimmy Clausen Brand.” They gave interviews to anyone who asked. He held press conference to announce that he was visiting USC/ND/whatever. Anything that would get his name out there and raise his profile was done.
He did it, he fed the sports-celebrity-machine monster. You can’t have it both ways, you cant use the media to create an image and raise your profile, then claim foul when the monster turns around and bites you.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
If your calling me a bad father for making my daughter live in a crack house, I’m offended.
/used your instead of you’re on purpose to further piss you off
August 6th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Looks like I’m late to the party on this thread, but anyone who reads down here gets a treat.
I was at Notre Dame last year for a party at the beginning of their school year and Jimmy Clausen eventually showed up. (It was a soccer team party) wearing a full valour track suit. I had assumed that everyone would love him at the party, but everyone absolutely hated him. People were booing him and guys would just jostle him for no reason as he walked by. He started to leave a little later, and as he was leaving people started pushing him hard and like grabbing his head and pushing it which got him really pissed. To the point that he tried to punch someone, but missed and punched an innoncent bystnader (a girl) in the face. This led to him being forcibly carried by these two huge black guys out of the party, with him all the while screaming, “I’m Jimmy Clausen let me go, I’m fucking Jimmy Clausen”
Needless to say it was awesome.
August 6th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I really hope thats true Jeeves, that would make my fuckin day. It would also validate all of my “he’s a massive POS” comments.
August 6th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Which means they were proactive in the recruiting process. Everything mentioned in your quote was geared towards the Clausens controlling the information regarding JC’s recruiting process, especially since that family went through that process before.
August 6th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Jeeves I dont believe you. This sounds like some shit that happened on Revenge of the Nerds.
August 6th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Sorry Jeevs but I call bullshit too. Tampa Bo hit it right on the head. Did this happen to Jimmy Clausen or Stan Gable?
August 6th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Making up stories on the Internet is gayher than Strahan.
August 6th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
You guys can feel free to doubt me, because unfortunately, I didn’t have a video camera on me (which would have been phenomenal) and all you have to go on is the words of an anonymous person on the Internet. I can’t do much outside of insist that this did indeed happen and that it was one of the highlights of my year.
August 6th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
No one pressed charges, this didn’t leak anywhere? In this day and age that is incredibly hard to believe.
August 6th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
@cbh - surprisingly, there’s still a lot that doesn’t get spread around. for example, Erik Ainge started the season last year for the Vols with a freshly broken pinky and it’s arguable whether it affected him or not. everyone was kinda vague about how he officially broke it. but, I heard from two different and unrelated sources that he broke his finger playing a pickup basketball game with some other football players against some of the UT basketball players. he broke it by punching Tyler Smith in the face after a hard foul, common in pickup games.
that story never made it out of Knoxville likely since nobody had video/pictorial proof but could have been a big deal if it had.
August 6th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Damn, that would be 2 times a member of the Ainge family was caught the worst out of a punch. I’d pay to see film of Sedale Threatt knocking Danny Ainge into next week.
August 6th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Randomly, I interned at a law firm with Jeff Carroll’s brother about 4 or 5 years ago.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
TBL - you probably violated him on his previous underage alcohol conviction, which would make you well, oh no, dont want to say it, a SNITCH. Its not like this is investigative journalism.
August 7th, 2008 at 12:31 am
and Georgia???? Are you out of your mind. The crap going on in Athens ain’t tame dude. Richt is coaching them just like he was taught. Ain’t that dadgum right, Bobby?
