Favre is the Best Thing to Happen to NY Since …
NFL August 7th. 2008, 9:45am
So how many Favre-to-the-Jets posts can you stomach today?
Nine?
We’re thinking one about how Favre might handle the rabid NY media, one about how Favre will single-handedly resurrect the economy in New York and New Jersey, one about where Favre may reside in hopes of duplicating his country lifestyle, one about how Aaron Rodgers will never have a decent career because this Favre experience is totally in his head, one about how Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy will be out of jobs in three years, one about how the JETS WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!, one about how Tampa Bay will not sniff the playoffs, and one simply running the list of every Jets starting QB in franchise history, just so everyone can laugh.
Linkage:
Completely disagree with this ‘earned the right to be a diva‘ logic.
They’re calling him ‘Broadway Brett.’
Look! A dissenting opinion!
Check out the poll on the Journal-Sentinel’s site: The Jets have a ton of new fans!
Maybe there’s some truth to this: Pennington could have outplayed Favre; he’s just lacks the buzz factor.

One thing is for certain – The race for second place in the AFC East could have just become somewhat more competitive, maybe.

9/11?
/
wrong?
August 7th, 2008 at 9:49 am
-1 million JS cool_rick.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:50 am
MIN needs to sign Pennington, stat. He is perfect for that offense.
The escalating terms of the trade are pretty interesting, and make sense on both sides. I still think the Jets are a borderline wild card team and this does nothing to help them down the road, but hey, what do I know.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:50 am
hm, going from a city that thinks you walk on water to a city waiting to pull the rug out from under you.
I give it half a season before he talks about retiring again.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:50 am
At least there was public interest in the coverage of 9/11
August 7th, 2008 at 9:50 am
fucking brett favre. i have to avoid all sports media, AND OK Magazines Blog (TBL)
August 7th, 2008 at 9:51 am
New England will throw a million looks and blitzes and Favre in the Jets home opener in Week 2. By the third quarter, and his third interception, Favre will hear a chorus of profanity-laced boos that he has never heard before.
These will come from the legions of slobbering fans who arrived for this 4:15 p.m. game at 9 a.m., hoping that 2008 was the year that would make them forget the past 39.
If Farve looks up at the crowd, he will see a blend of ugliness reserved for Boomer Esiason, Jeff Lageman, Blair Thomas, Johnny Lam Jones and Walt Michaels. It might be enough to send him packing.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:51 am
With the Patriots and now Favre-led Jets in the same division at least there’s 2 chances for a natural disaster to right these events.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Minny should sign Pennington, as a backup. There is no chance Childress is going to yank T-Jack for Pennington right now.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:52 am
cannot believe a team that is going to stuggle to reach .500 is going to get more headlines in NY/NJ than a team (your World Champion New York Football Giants) that will be fighting for best record in the NFC.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Wait till he finds out the Jets play and practice in New Jersey. He’s gonna be pissed.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:54 am
I think before Columbus Day Favre will wish he was either back in Green Bay or back home in Mississippi. Those two places are about as far from New Jersey as you can get.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Pennington >>> Tavaris Jackson
August 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
even with a rag arm, pennington is light years better than tavaris jackson. that guy is BRUTAL.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Buffalo Bills are still better than the J-E-T-S
August 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
mr. favre, i’d like to introduce you to the poz…
August 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
You guys act like Brett is some rookie who won’t be able to handle the big, bad scary New York spotlight. He is an 18 year vet, who has been covered by the mainstream media most of his career, New York won’t faze him.
Jets are still going 8-8 and missing the playoffs, Tampa will make it in.
Can we get a Hard Knocks post? Great episode last night, and I had no idea Liev Schrieber was the narrator
August 7th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Jets are morons, they keep overpaying for guys waaaaayyy past their prime, Faneca, TJones, Farve. Farve will be booed by the end of week 2, and lashing out at the media by week 4.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Wait until he has to spell Laverneous.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Dissenting opinions about Brett Favre are so edgey, so in your face!
August 7th, 2008 at 9:56 am
How long before the “he’s not having fun” and “not playing like a kid” headlines begin appearing?
Or will Favre’s flaws be hoisted upon the Manginious? Because clearly Brett Favre has no flaws.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:58 am
No, but the fact that he’s now surrounded by a shit team will definitely faze him.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Odds of Favre packing it up before the season ends? 20-1?
August 7th, 2008 at 9:59 am
For shame, CRM — the J-E-T-S are not a shit team this year.
/opinion
August 7th, 2008 at 9:59 am
I wonder how this trade will affect Favre’s quest to take the league lead in smiles away from Tony Romo
August 7th, 2008 at 10:00 am
going to soilder field will seem like a picnic compared to the mobscene at the new jersey swamplands when he throws a pick that costs him a game.
new jersey is a far, far, far cry from the cacoon-like atmosphere the cheeseheads had for favre in the northlands.
or from backwater mississippi.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:01 am
compared to the Packers, yes they are
Rodgers will miraculously have a better season than Favre
/prediction
August 7th, 2008 at 10:01 am
this is exactly what he was sold on. the new stadium and practice facilities being built for 2010, and the great places to live in NJ.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:01 am
+1,000
Also, who else is hoping that Billy Wagner has to go in for tommy john surgery today? I certainly don’t want to see another favre post today.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:01 am
prediction: that MiLF wife of favre’s will wind up on “the view.”
August 7th, 2008 at 10:01 am
terrific sentence
August 7th, 2008 at 10:01 am
CBH, yes, he’s been covered by the national media, but the day to day interactions with the local beat guys consisted of them suckling at the teet of Farve. All it will take it one bad game and the NY media will be all over him.
Wally, I’d say the odds are much better, 5-1.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Exactly, they weren’t shit before and they are a little better now, I think you guys are letting your hatred of Favre cloud your judgment, you want to see him fail so that is what you think will happen. You guys give all the credit to everyone but him for his season last year which is ridiculous.
You could do worse at receiver than Jericho Cotchery and Laveraneus Coles, and Thomas Jones is the back everyone thinks the Bears should have kept.
August, was your quip directed at me?
August 7th, 2008 at 10:03 am
BTW, what does this do for the Madden Cover? There’s thousands of copies and a whole lot of advertising geared around a Packers #4 QB that ain’t there no more. I’m sure EA now wishes they’d taken Tomlinson or Brady instead.
And does the Jinx still hold? Please say yes.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Buffalo, Dolphins, and Jets fighting for anything just doen’t interest me.
Fran Tarkenton(right now)>>>>>> Tavaris Jackson
August 7th, 2008 at 10:04 am
That’s got to be the backhanded compliment of the young season.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
cbh-what evidence are you going on that the Jets weren’t shitty before Favre got there?
August 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
CBH, don’t you know how cool it is to despise Favre, and credit his success to the likes of James Jones and Donald Lee?
August 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
He better get used to the NJ Transiv
August 7th, 2008 at 10:05 am
If Favre is looking to move somewhere backwater like home, New Jersey always has Sussex County to offer
August 7th, 2008 at 10:06 am
I’ll bet the FO in Miami is pissed though since the Jets might have been their only divisional win all year with Pennington piloting.
The Phins are going to suck.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I wish the 49ers had a shot at Pennington.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:07 am
This is the best proof of a curse, ever.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I predict Brett Favre will have negative yards passing, and manage to throw more INTs than he has passing attempts.
/must be Ted Thompson’s NFL prediction
August 7th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Highland Lakes has plenty of homes for sale, not quite that big, but everyone gets their own black bear in the backyard.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Br-Br-Br-Br Bretty and the Jets
/New theme song for the 08′ season
August 7th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Am I the only Vikings fan that thinks Pennington is maybe a slight jump up from T-Jack? I will admit that he is better, but I would also assume he is paid a lot more $$, his arm isn’t that great, and he will be hurt after 2 games anyways. If they are going to get a QB to replace Jackson, at least make it a significant step-up, not some aging wonder who has never been all that great in the nfl anyways.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Yeah Mike, I guess I am not some sheep that feels the need to agree with everyone on here.
Sparty, it is based on my prediction, I don’t think the Jets are as bad as there record was last year, they have made improvements, just a man’s opinion but if it would make you all feel better for me to just agree with you then I can do that.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Matter of fact, I think if Brett didn’t appear on the Madden cover, he would have stayed retired. The Madden curse has gotten all of us this time. It’s time to boycott the Madden games……
…After this year, already have mine reserved.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Dr C – you better coin that. We’re gonna hear it before this season is over.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:10 am
cbh-just curious as to what helped you to formulate the opinion.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I don’t get the hate for Pennington. Yes, he throws like Johnny Damon and is injury prone, but when he is in there, he’s pretty good. He doesn’t need to be Tom Brady in MIN’s offense, just a “game manager,” so to speak. He’s perfect for them.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:12 am
@Happy: I know it..
August 7th, 2008 at 10:13 am
OK, which team is better suited for a Super Bowl run: the Packers or the Jets?
August 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Pennington’s basically Tim Couch with half a rotator cuff.
Which is half more than Tim Couch has.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:15 am
I don’t even like Brett Favre and I hate the Packers, damn you all for making me defend him.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Green Bay, fo sho.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:16 am
more depressing – wife and her roommates used to name their xmas tree ‘Chad Pineington’ after the Jets QB. That name is no more, obviously.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:16 am
LSU?
August 7th, 2008 at 10:17 am
Hey everybody, no talk about Tom Brady without mentioning Jabar Gaffney and Chad Jackson instead of Randy Moss and Wes Welker.
/Donald Driver and Greg Jennings don’t equate success
August 7th, 2008 at 10:20 am
@TBL – Last year you just called it “Kellen?”
August 7th, 2008 at 10:20 am
Iim not a fan of Brett Favre I think he is pretty damn good. I feel like he may have be a little overrated. But he is still better than half the qb’s in the league.
STill dont see the JETS making the playoffs.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Because Donald Driver just joined the Packers last year. He hasn’t been playing with Favre the past 10 years or anything. Just last season, Driver made Favre a superstar. And Greg Jennings: he almost reached 1,000 yards receiving last year. Almost. There were only 28 WRs who had more yards than him.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Speaking of AMerica’s Team, CBH – Hard Knocks was excellent last night. I want to see some more off the field stuff though considering the cast of characters assembled. It was amazing how quick that Terry Glenn deal went down.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:23 am
I cracked up when the one Dallas personnel guy had a Miller Lite on his desk.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:25 am
The Jets just went from a 4 – 12 no one will care about team to a 4 – 12 team that is going to get way too much national media coverage and everyone will hate.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Sterling Sharpe only played 7 years?
August 7th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Watch it.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:26 am
I agree with you arkbadger. The Viking brass has to realize that they don’t have a defense like Baltimore had. A Trent Dilfer-like game manager is not gonna get them to the Superbowl. If you’re going to upgrade then fucking upgrade. Don’t replace shitty with slightly less shitty. I’m also not convinced that Pennington would be an upgrade anyway. I’d rather roll with T-Jack and let the chips fall where they may.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:29 am
“Sterling Sharpe only played 7 years?”
Sounds about right. Career ending neck injury. IIRC, he was the model for TO. Quite a petulant jerk.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Broadway Brett is perfect for Favre since he’s such a damn drama queen…
August 7th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Ark/Groin is right, Chad the Noodle Arm isn’t enough of an upgrade to warrant pulling the rug out from Tjack. Give him a little more time.
I just checked the torrent sites and hard knocks is already posted, have to download that tonight.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:35 am
I think Mangenious just pulled this trade to fill his garage freezer with deer meat.
