Cubs 10, Braves 2: Geovany Soto homered and had four RBI and Jim Edmonds had a bomb and three RBI to get Jason Marquis his 8th win. Bobby Cox improved his record for career ejections after arguing with Joe West about a delay of game involving the lights, and the Cubs had their first road sweep of a doubleheader since 1992 (they won 8-0 thanks to Rich Harden in game two).

Twins 4, Yankees 2: Delmon Young had a three-run homer and Kevin Slowey gave up a run in six innings. The AP report noted the Yankees’ lineup was missing Derek Jeter, which is kind of funny since his .284, 7-HR season isn’t exactly JETERESQUE. They were still missing it though. Plus all those intangibles.

Red Sox 8, Rangers 4: One night after a 19-17 disaster, Kevin Youkilis had three doubles and prompted a quote from Jason Varitek that made me chuckle: “he’s had a phenomenal offensive year. We’ve known about him as a hitter, but now he’s added some power.€ Yes. That’s like saying “we’ve known about him as a lady’s man, but now he’s getting laid.” Jason Bay and Jed Lowrie each had two RBI as well.

Mets 12, Nats 0: D. Murphy, Fernando Tatis, John Maine, Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado, and Carlos Beltran all drove in runs in the Mets eight-run 3rd inning. John Maine pitched five scoreless innings followed by Brian Stokes closing it out with four scoreless. The Nationals suck really bad.

Brewers 7, Padres 1: Corey Hart had a bases loaded clearing triple and CC Sabathia “scattered” nine hits while striking out eight and giving up one run. It’s honestly not out of the question to think Sabathia could win the NL Cy Young. Okay, maybe it is, but he’s been downright dominant since moving to the NL.
