Leinart Expected to be Backing Up Warner
NFL August 24th. 2008, 5:00pm
According to ESPN, Kurt Warner is expected to be named the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Ouch. Although I guess you gotta hand it to Leinart for one last sweet effort.
Last night, in their final preseason game against the mighty Oakland Raiders, he completed 4 of 12 passes for 24 yards and three picks. As noted in the article, that’s a paltry passer rating of 2.8.
Damn, that’s hard to do. Put Boldin or Fitzgerald back there against the Raiders in a preseason game and I guarantee they walk away with better numbers than that.
Apparently, the Cardinals are concerned about Leinart’s “arm strength and consistency” and a source within the organization reportedly said his training-camp performance has been “uneven.”
Right. That sounds a bit massaged by the P.R. department. I’m sure any member of the coaching staff would’ve said, “Ya know, I gotta say, Matty has been shaky as hell, he’s all over the place with the ball. As a matter of fact, we’re kinda worried he sucks. Say, you ever see those beer bong pictures?”
After the game though, Ken Whisenhunt played it cool, not letting on as to who would be named the starter:
“I know Matt’s down because he didn’t play as well as he would have liked,” Whisenhunt said. “This competition, being pushed by Kurt, has made Matt tougher. It’s one of the things you have to be as a quarterback.”
If by tougher he means shittier, I totally get his point.

You try throwing a football with delirium tremens.

“…thus opening up the Cardinals to an improbably 16-0 season.”
/this sentence was left out of your headline. You should fix that.

*improbable season.
Fuck.
August 24th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
I prefer improbably

You would.

4 completions, 3 picks, and he lost his starting job? F the Cards. I vow to never be them again in Madden 09

That’ll show ‘em

I may have to revamp my thought about the Cardinals being a whole lot of suck this year to maybe just a little bit of suck with Warner. Hey, anything’s a positive in the NFC West.

I won’t pretend to know anything that everyone else doesn’t already know about Leinart’s work ethic, but I’m guessing that Mr. Most NFL Ready QB Ever is continuing his “what me worry” ways.
Kurt Warner actually gives the Cardinals a better chance at the playoffs this year, I think. I know he turns the ball over too much, but he actually did pretty damn well overall last season.

Leinart currently loathes J.T. O’Sullivan.

Leinart’s training camp performance is uneven, much like his brain. The dude just looks like he’d get lost staring at the wall.

Guess I should not have taken Leinart in a fantasy draft yesterday?
August 24th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Well, if it was a “banging idiot socialites” fantasy draft, you’re fine.

Anyone remember the “who would you rather have Leinart, Cutler, or V. Young?” talk? Shouldn’t that be updated to “hot buttery garbage, Cutler, or hot buttery garbage that can scramble”?

“The market for beer bongs is doing just fine, and anyone who says differently is a Chicken Little.”
- Purdue Matt Leinart

I remember that discussion and I mocked the media pundits who said Cutler would be the better of the three. I=eating crow.

In other news, Carson Palmer has a broken nose. Chris Henry is not a suspect.

He’s been consistently shitty…which means he fits in just fine with the Cards.

+1 Trent

I’d say not being able to beat out Kurt “clean up in isle 9″ Warner make you a bust.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Now hang on there, Coop. We gotta wait ’til AFTER this season to blast Leinart, in all fairness…
(This coming from a staunch Saints/Reggie Bush fan.)
August 24th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Saints!!!!
/sorry, had to be said
if Reggie doesn’t stop with the dancing this year, I’ll… I’ll cry. Pierre will be good though after Deuce goes out in week 6.

Matt just needs to get his head in the game and be ready when his number is called… Trust me Warner isn’t the answer and Matt will play this year. My question is “How Boldin’s attitude affects the team’s success this season”

hot buttery garbage is a headline waiting to happen

Good work this weekend The Sports Hernia. I’ll try to stop by more on the weekends if the product quality remains this good.

I think the real winner in this story is Leinart’s baby’s momma. Good thing that child support is based off his current salary.

hot buttered corn > hot buttery garbage.
August 25th, 2008 at 9:29 am
it’s not like cutler has ever won anything.
August 25th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Indeed, he’s 9-12.
Saying Cutler is the best of those three quarterbacks is probably true, though. In the same way that miller lite is better than bud lite or coors lite.

Nobody is actually surprised by this are they? Leinert was unlikely to ever develop into a good starting NFL QB. Anybody with 1/2 a brain (obviously this excludes the Cardinals) knew that before he was even drafted. The only surprise is that Bidwell allowed Whisenhunt to make the change now rather then waiting until after Leinert stunk up the field for a few regular season games.
August 25th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Douchier than I thought. Leinart should probably have a different offense. I think the Packers should think about him if Rodgers doesn’t work out
