The Roundup: Speed, Opinion and Unruly Brits
Baseball, College Football, Golf, NBA, NFL, Olympics, Race, Tennis, Video August 25th. 2008, 8:00am
You would probably lose to Ivanka Trump in Jeopardy … the newest bailout recipients: Detroit and the auto industry! Hey, we’re the new France! Surely the newspaper industry is up next. And what about radio? Let’s save them, too … anyone here join Hoffspace? … for the high rollers: this isn’t a great market for vacation homes … apparently, we’re way late to the Christina Hendricks party, and it seems like we’ve really missed out … a Monday morning bonus after the jump … who goes under first, Washington Mutual or Wachovia? … the mainstream media, always six months behind …
An SNL skit worthy of passing to your friends. (Consumerist)
Because the Gators couldn’t deal with Georgia hogging all the player-arrest headlines. (Sun-Sentinel)
Not a great shirt to wear to Wrigley. (Lenin Closet)
An applause is in order: He lived blogged the Gold medal hoops game. (The Arena)
Triumphant: Cristie Kerr in Portland, Vijay at the Barclays. (The Golf Girl, Putt for Par)
Why are British people so unruly? (NY Times)
Giambi and Joba suck at beer pong. (Page Six)
Blogger roundtable: Small market and the NBA. (Hardwood Paroxysm)
Birmingham, Alabama and the 2020 Olympics. (Ghetto Testimonial)
Inflation at the stadium: It’s going to cost more to attend college football games this year. (Oregonian)
This guy hates Redskins owner Daniel Synder. (Opinion Popcorn)
“[John McEnroe] is such a charismatic commentator that more than any player he remains the face of tennis.” That’s horribly incorrect. Someone says “face of tennis” and you instantly think Nadal, Federer or the Williams sisters, right? (NY Times)
Handy Olympic medal chart dating back to 1896, when Greece ruled the Olympics. (SI)
A bevy of suspensions for the Miami Hurricanes, though they won’t be missed vs. Charleston Southern. (Miami Herald)
Not bad for an FSU student, Mr. Rolle. (NYT)
Why are Jamaican Olympian runners so fast? “They say that our aggression, our toughness, came out of our slave situation,†said Elliott, who is black. The team doctor said he subscribes to the view “considering that Jamaica had more slavery rebellion than any country in the world.€ Elliott is not actually Jimmy the Greek. (Yahoo Sports)

August 25th, 2008 at 8:09 am
is Obama/Biden getting its own post today?
August 25th, 2008 at 8:12 am
Never heard of ‘em.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Odd VP choice if you ask me.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:19 am
NickP, I think Obama is the guy hiding in a cave in Pakistan right now.

Who are these twins you speak of?
August 25th, 2008 at 8:42 am
These are the only twins I know in tennis.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:44 am
Clown – those twins don’t appear to be the “face” of tennis though
August 25th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Joe Bidden…Pump Pump Pump it up.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Check out the pic of Madonna on Drudgereport.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:48 am
@CRM, Tampa Bo: But he’s an (Internet) legend!
And Ivanka Trump would not beat me at Jeopardy!
August 25th, 2008 at 8:53 am
the face of tennis = federer
although mcenroe does remain surprisingly relevant
August 25th, 2008 at 8:56 am
Well if you want to make a change you need a good hype man…Pump Pump Pump it up!
August 25th, 2008 at 8:59 am
mcenroe remains relevant because he is the commentator for all the major finals pretty much. these are the only matches that the general public ever watch so they get the impression he is there all the time. def federer and nadal trump him in who is tennis today not to mention others.

Can I have a bailout for my student loans?
August 25th, 2008 at 9:02 am
i’ve actually had a sober, veteran newspaper person argue with me that the feds should bail out the newspaper industry because it benefits society as much as the american auto industry.
can you imagine? (of course, the guy is slightly right of mao in his political leanings).
August 25th, 2008 at 9:06 am
nah, haven’t read enough about Biden to know what he’s about.
August 25th, 2008 at 9:07 am
good luck proving such a person exists
August 25th, 2008 at 9:16 am
easy, the opposite of Obama. The DNC did a good job of selecting his running mate.
August 25th, 2008 at 9:24 am
I voted for Biden in the primary… been a fan for a long time. He’s the best foreign policy expert we have who isn’t a certifiable nutbar, and he’s smart as shit. He likes to talk a lot, but if that’s the worst thing you got then I’ll take it.
Also, congrats to the Redeem Team!
August 25th, 2008 at 9:25 am
The difference being is that Davis probably won’t be playing this year.
As for Miami not needing those guys for Charleston Southern, good luck to Marve making his first career start in the Swamp.
August 25th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Marve rhymes with Farve
August 25th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Marve is pronounced Mav-ruh?
August 25th, 2008 at 9:51 am
Joe Biden is from DE (so, East Coast for you), has run for president twice in the last twenty years and has been a very vocal member of the Senate on everything. Plus he puts his foot in his mouth more than I do. How is it possible you don’t know what he’s about?
August 25th, 2008 at 9:53 am
@Hef-Pump Pump Pump it Up!
August 25th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Christina Hendricks is ridiculously under rated hot
August 25th, 2008 at 10:04 am
And as a show Mad Men could have two of the hottest chicks on a TV show with Hendricks and January Jones
August 25th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Snyder should definitely have his face on a box of douche.
August 25th, 2008 at 10:10 am
what are u talking about, TBL? according to the chinese, we clearly won the 1896 olympics. USA!!!
August 25th, 2008 at 10:12 am
what are you talking about? it isn’t like he told Obama (in front of a national audience) that he was not ready for this just 5 months ago. stop with this crazy talk…
August 25th, 2008 at 10:17 am
and Pump Pump Pump it up!
August 25th, 2008 at 10:17 am
Or that he’s a big fan of Indians (there are many in Delaware) and that you can’t go into a 7/11 without an Indian accent.
/also Obama’s a “good speaker”
August 25th, 2008 at 10:17 am
+1 for your persistence Tampa Bo.
August 25th, 2008 at 10:21 am
@Hef: For a black guy, you meant…right?
August 25th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Nick: You mean, what Biden meant. I’m not sure if I like him in spite of all the stupid things he says or because of it (sincerity, lack of polish, obvious when he’s lying, etc).
August 25th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Can anyone find the SNL skit (I think it’s the parody of the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill hearings) where Kevin Nealon is imitating Joe Biden?
August 25th, 2008 at 10:29 am
TBL, you can learn Biden’s basic stances on the major issues in under 10 minutes
/yeah it’s wikipedia, but it’s also pretty accurate.
