Blazers Fans, Now More Stoked (If That’s Possible)
NBA August 25th. 2008, 6:15pm
Greg Oden’s healthy. And Rudy Fernandez, seen here throwing down a vicious dunk on Dwight Howard, is in the mix. (Video here.) It might be – might – the sickest Olympic hoops dunk involving Team USA since Vince Carter dropped his balls on the head of that tall, cement-shoes wearing 7-footer from France (drafted by the Knicks, natch).
Almost as important: Darius “Bust” Miles is gone. Good thing too – voice of the Blazers, play-by-play announcer Mike Barrett:
Does he do the right thing always? Obviously not. Is he a guy who I am glad that is gone from this group of players? Probably. Just because of his off-the-court habits. His recreational habits of what he likes to do. I would prefer our young guys weren’t around somebody like that.
Is a Hornets-like explosion in 08-09 going overboard? Wouldn’t be surprised by 50 wins.

I’m thinking this is gonna be in the new Dwight Howard Adidas commercial

That was an absolutely sick dunk.
Rudy seems to float on defense (not shocking since he is Euro). His offense is versatile. His outside shot looks decent. He is very comfortable going to the rack as DHo will attest to.
The Blazers should be a TON of fun to watch. Oden is just plain sick as I can attest as an OSU fan. He was playing one-handed (with his bad hand) and was still a GREAT basketball player.
Add those two with what they currently have and the Blazers might become a top 4 team in the West. Although, I would likely say that is a year or two away.

I’m thinking when you say
You’re including yourself and that nice bandwagon(ridin’ on 22″ ‘natch…). Being a bandwagon(24″ of course) Hornets fan, I find this blatant team-hopping disgraceful.

and=on ‘natch

it’s not so much ‘team-hopping’ as it is enjoying watching a team play. the blazers are going to be hella fun to watch this year.
will also enjoy watching the heat
i don’t really have a ‘team’

Pick one. The NBA is going to be on par with the NFL within 20 years; you’ll want one then.
And the Blazers will win more than 50, but they’re not going to be anything more than on par with the Hornets at the surprise thing, because in Paul’s second season, when they were still the NOOCH and played in both cities, New Orleans still won 39; last year’s Blazers won 41, which would have made the playoffs in the East.
August 25th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
They’re probably the deepest team in the league and have the ability to go big or play small with anybody in the league. They might still be lacking a tough “enforcer” type player, but I think they end up in the top 4.
The Spurs, Suns, and Mavs will be fighting for the last two spots this year.
I know everyone’s picking the Lakers, but I think they’ve got some questions. I’m not sure how Odom fits in here. Dealing him for Artest would have been perfect. Even a guy like Josh Childress would have been better for them. I think everyone’s a little too high on Bynum. He basically put up the same numbers as Dalembert and now he’s coming off knee surgery. And what’s their PG situation like?
I would still put them first and Utah a close second. Then it’s New Orleans, Houston, and Portland in some order followed by Denver, Golden State, Phoenix, San Antonio, and Dallas in some other order.
The East might even be harder to pick this year with all of the changes.

LeBron gave no help on that dunk, he should’ve stopped him
August 25th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
How is Miles signing with the Celtics good news for them? He was considered medically retired by the league. Now if he plays 10 games, the Blazers have to put his contract back on the books and they lose all their cap flexibility for next offseason.
Sounds like bad news to me.

To be fair, Howard was hung out to dry on that play.
Kobe let the mamba loose during the fourth quarter, but in that instance he gambled horribly on d forcing Howard to come over on help late and thus get dunked on.
August 25th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Howard was already rotating to cover up Kobe’s poor steal attempt. You really think Howard was guarding Fernandez? Did you even watch the game?
August 25th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
/fixed for fact
August 25th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
The fact that Howard wasn’t Rudy’s man defender doesn’t take away from the fact that “Superman” got posterized by a 6-6, 175 lbs. Spaniard. VC wasn’t being guarded by that French stiff, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a sick dunk.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Helping or not, he still got dunked on. Since when is that an excuse? You think everytime Shawn Bradley or any other big man got dunked on, he was guarding the perimeter player than dunked on him?
Almost all posterizations are a result of the big man rotating or helping in some way.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
My comment was to the guy who said LeBron should have stopped him. Yes, Dwight Howard got posterized. But to come on here, with no frame of reference, having simply viewed a shitty video feed, and say what should have happened is retarded.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Most poster dunks are someone else’s fault. It doesn’t make them any less enjoyable to laugh and mock.
/been dunked on… on camcorder
August 25th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
G.O. being healthy and ready to play IS all that matters for the blazers success… regardless of whoever is on the team (He’s a BEAST) !!!

TBL fantasy draft just started
My picks: AP, Maroney, Fitzgerald
August 25th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
MakBlunt – Antonio Daniels absolutely dunked on me when I was 13. Maybe I was 14, but he hooped and hollared it up. Dont know why BGSU players were allowed to play pick up games, but he Vince Carter me’d.
August 26th, 2008 at 1:01 am
What a bunch of horse bleep, TBL. If you enjoyed watching a team play you would have been raving about the Lakers last year who had the best offense in the league last year after Gasol joined the team. But no, you were still lusting after the Hornets (I agree that Chris Paul is SICK) and the very mediocre Suns. Kobe hater.
Oh, and Mike Barrett is the douchiest homer play-by-play man in the league. Well, I can only assume as much since I only watch Blazer local telecasts. Somebody should make a montage of his homer-y-ness. What an assclown. Though he is right about Miles there.

that dunk was weak
August 26th, 2008 at 9:24 am
@irish… Seriously? That’s best you could do?
That’s a poster waiting to be on the walls of every Spanish kid from ages 5-16.
