Based on a post on MMAjunkie.com - PERHAPS!

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture could return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship by year’s end as part of an out-of-court settlement with the organization.

Of course, this is all rumor. Did I mention that in the title? I should have. Hopefully the question mark helped you understand the speculative theme of this post.

Michael David Smith floated the idea of Couture fighting Brock Lesnar, which would… well… be pretty damn cool. Lesnar, is the guy the UFC wants to carry the torch and beating one of the organization’s greatest all-time champions would certainly help with that.

While Couture is 45 years old, this wouldn’t be a sideshow like, say, Ken Shamrock vs. Kimbo Slice. Couture won two fights in 2007 - both in impressive fashion. Since his title defense last August he is said to have stayed in ridiculous shape. Presumably so that he’d be ready to go as soon as his contract dispupte was over.

Couture wants to fight Fedor Emelanenko (All MMA fans want to see this. It’s a pre-requisite for ordering a PPV.) In order to do that he’ll need to get out of the UFC. With Fedor currently shelved with a hand injury, Couture could fight in November and look towards the dream match up in early 2009.
