Mets 6, Brewers 5 (10): Carlos Beltran hit a three-run homer and Endy Chavez hit the game-winning RBI single in the 10th to get the Mets their 5th win in seven road games. The NY bullpen struck out seven in seven scoreless innings. As for Beltran, something about him reeks of well-manicured poodles. I bet he sleeps with several poodles. (Note: I realize CRM used the same card this past weekend, but I wasn’t about to forgo a pubescent unibrow.)

Yankees 7, Rays 2: Mike Mussina improved to 17-7 after “scattering” two runs over 10 hits in six innings. He also notched eight strike outs and downed his ERA to 3.39. Mussina is 3-0 against Tampa in ‘08 and surpassed Bob Feller for 34th on the all-time wins list. Feller never won against Tampa. Pansy.

Red Sox 14, Orioles 2: Kevin Youkilis was a late scratch with back spasms, rendering Dustin Pedroia the cleanup hitter. He drove in five runs. Pedroia is 18-for-30 in his last seven games and is hitting .330 overall, tops in the American League. Jon Lester improved to 13-5 and David Ortiz contributed four RBI in the Sox triumph.

Braves 16, Marlins 14: Kelly Johnson had four hits and four RBI, and Omar Infante had four hits and two RBI for the Braves, who spoiled a seven-run Marlins rally (after choking away the seven-run lead, of course). The game featured 36 hits, 20 stranded runners, 14 pitchers, 11 walks and no Chipper Jones, who sat out after twisting his knee in pre-game activities. If I’ve told him once, I’ve told him a thousand times: Chipper, stop trying to dodge the bullpen car when Otis Nixon is driving it.

Rockies 6, Padres 5 (12): Colorado squandered a 5-0 lead but atoned with a walkoff single from Ryan Spilborghs. Omar Vizquel had three hits and three RBI for San Diego, whose loss put the Rockies just five games back of the NL West lead. Spilborghs’ walkoff single earned a thumbs up from the patriarch of the full-bodied, jet black beard (naturally). He can sell you.
