Unassuming, Bald, Crafty 26-year-old Kid From Ohio Destroys LeBron in H-O-R-S-E (*VIDEO)
NBA September 4th. 2008, 9:00am
It’s one thing to practice trick shots … it’s another to pull them off in front of a large audience against the best player in the NBA:
Kalb closed out the first game by swishing a shot from the baseline, catching the ball as it came through the net and converting a reverse layup.
“After I beat him, he’s like ‘best of three, right?’†Kalb said. “I could tell he was frustrated. After missing a couple of easy ones, he hit the ball in disgust.€
Which happens next: Footage of these shots turns up on Sportscenter, or the young man gets profiled in SLAM? Next up: Our very own Patrick Imig wins a contest and strikes out Albert Pujols, Roy Hobbs-style, on three pitches.

Normally you have to have a jump shot in order to be competative at h-o-r-s-e.

That kid was a hell of a small school HS basketball player. I saw him play a bunch of games in his senior year.
Seriously, that has to be one the best feelings ever. That last shot he hit was ridiculous.

ah, shit
i had no idea espn had this. dammit. i thought this was a rad story and now it’s not nearly as cool. this is what i get for watching the speeches last night, and GMA and listening to stern all morning.
and my first stop at espn was 9:12 am. been up since 6
September 4th, 2008 at 9:15 am
since when is 26 years old still a kid?
September 4th, 2008 at 9:16 am
This should settle all those Lebron > Kobe arguments.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:16 am
ESPN inteviewed LeBron about this on the 5PM SC last night. LeBron made it sound like the kid was putting up all kinds of ridiculous prayer shots. He said he was bouncing the ball off walls and into the hoop. I wasn’t really paying attention, but i don’t think they showed any video.

Very nice of Lebron. Yes, this was on SC yesterday but hey its LEBRON
September 4th, 2008 at 9:24 am
except for the fact that in competition against NBA players, lebron is clearly better.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Lebron should have pulled out that full-court fade away from the Poweraide comercial.

Unassuming, Bald, Crafty 26-year-old Kid From Ohio > Lebron
Therefore…
Unassuming, Bald, Crafty 26-year-old Kid From Ohio > Kobe

Oh, about when one turns 30.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:26 am

September 4th, 2008 at 9:26 am
@spencer
Sarcasm, my friend.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:27 am
those shots are incredible! this guy was on fire
September 4th, 2008 at 9:28 am
Lebron looks hungover as fuck. like he really didn’t want to be there.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:29 am
and why is matt hasselbeck pictured with lebron?
September 4th, 2008 at 9:29 am
I turn 27 in a week. Dont think of myself as a kid really. not a old fart or anything either though.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:30 am
SARCASM?!?!?!?!?!
oh.
party.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:46 am
@Miz- Why is Hasslebeck using an alias I thought he would like this type of press.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:47 am
@tampa – maybe he doesn’t want anybody to know he’s balding?
September 4th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Kobe would have raped that dude.
/literally
September 4th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I would literally have wood for a week if I beat LBJ (hell, or any NBA star) in HORSE, then got to throw alley-oops to him to finish off the day on the court.
And Kalb was on fire. Some of the shots were just obscene…

i read something in SI about a former hoopster who is now a business man that beat MJ 1 on 1 at a basketball camp recently. how awesome would that be?
September 4th, 2008 at 10:09 am
Imig would take on Stone Cold Steve Austin in a wrestling match before that Pujols thing you mentioned.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:12 am
LeBron should have just dunked every shot, guaranteed win.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:20 am
heck, I know people that would probably come up with some fake injury that “sidelines” them from basketball just so that they could say to others, well I can’t ball now but in the last game I played, I beat Lebron.

Beating Jordan now would be cool but nothing similar to beating him in his prime. And it’s a lock that Jordan had money on the game.

Have people checked and made sure that Oakley didn’t have a “talk†with him after the game*

Wally, which high school did that kid go to?
September 4th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Wynford
September 4th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Dude got beat by a bald Kevin Federline.
Seriously though, no one could beat somebody that was that hot.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Say what you want, but there is no way in hell Kobe would let that dude beat him.
But he was on fire!!! Umm, hitting a bank shot 3, off the glass 8 ft. jumper, and underhand free throw are not that difficult.
