Ugh. The Kornheiser Non-Controversy
Media Gossip/Musings September 16th. 2008, 11:40am
Shouldn’t even waste a post on this, but hopefully, this’ll mean you’ll stop emailing us asking about it: Tony Kornheiser’s “dry cleaning” comment was harmless. In case you missed it: ESPN is attempting to shove the NFL upon spanish-speakers (globalization!). So they cut over to the Spanish broadcast, and Kornheiser says, “I took high-school Spanish, and that either means ‘nobody is going to touch him’ or ‘could you pick up my dry cleaning in the morning.’ Funny. Drawing any further connection would be as big a reach as grabbing Larry Johnson in the first round of a fantasy football draft. And Kornheiser’s there for comedic/entertainment value anyway … so where’s the beef?

I thought Jewish people had a pass to be slightly racist…
September 16th, 2008 at 11:42 am
The only way that picture would be funnier is if TK had a Bob Barker microphone.

If you were going to do a Kornheiser post, you should have done one on multitude of reasons he shouldn’t be in the booth. This spanish thing happens to not be one of those reasons.

This is really terrible, guys.
September 16th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Honestly, MNF would be better if it was just Tirico and Jaws in the booth. I really like TK but he’s boring and unfunny on MNF. He uses the same jokes over and over again.

People thought twice about that comment?
September 16th, 2008 at 11:46 am
the bspn production crew shit when they heard the joke, per florio.
hence the apology.
damn tv people are paranoid and hollow.

Lighten up, people.

I feel stupid for saying this, but I don’t get it. Is there an underlying racist joke about Latinos and dry cleaning? I thought dry cleaners were mostly Asian.
(Issuing an on comment apology to all Asians)

I generally like TK but I put the TV on mute when he said that the Eagles best receiver played for the Cowboys. Tirico and Jaws both sounded like they wanted to slap him. TK just needs to know that it’s ok to shut the fuck up once in a while. He seems insecure about being forgotten if he isn’t talking constantly.

Tk just admitted he didn’t learn much in Spanish but people initial thought it was racist because they were trying to ignore him and didn’t completely comprehend what he said. I immediately thought that sounded racist but I didn’t exactly hear what he said.

Geez, even Mexicans know you do the yardwork in the morning when its cool and the housework in the afternoon.
September 16th, 2008 at 11:54 am
It’s clearly racist, people. He should be fired.
Although not for this, but for being a two-joke hack for the last 3 years.
Seriously, has he been funny since 2005?
September 16th, 2008 at 11:55 am
You can’t trust Mexicans to pick up your dry cleaning, you might not ever see you fur coat again.
September 16th, 2008 at 11:55 am
I for one am always on the edge of my seat when I get a peek inside what it’s like to be Hispanic. Then I always feel a bit cheated when I realize the games look exactly the same and they can’t understand what the play-by-play guys are saying. Mexicans are lucky in that regard…

The MNF booth is annoying as hell… they name drop and giggle at each other like LA baristas and often seem oblivious to the game on the field.
September 16th, 2008 at 11:57 am
I immediately thought that sounded racist but I didn’t exactly hear what he said.
TBL, this might be why you got so many emails.

Clown, on behalf of your people, would you care to comment? (after you get done picking up Hef’s dry cleaning, of course)
September 16th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Can’t you just listen to the broadcast in Spanish if you hit the SAP button on your TV?
September 16th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
I’m not offended as a Hispanic, I’m offended as a comedian.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
I don’t believe that Clown is really hispanic. Talked to him on the phone Sunday and he sounds exactly like Fat Albert. Exactly.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
clown, that is my favorite Seinfeld line ever.

LOL!

And Kornheiser’s there for comedic/entertainment value anyway …
Thanks – as I was watching the game I asked my son – “Why exactly is Tony Kornheiser in the booth?” We couldn’t figure it out. But now I can tell him – “he adds comedic/entertainment value”.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
horrible thing to say during Hispanic Heritage Month
September 16th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
me so solly!
September 16th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Truth.
September 16th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
If you knew anything you would know it is “me so sowwy” because they never project the tongue outward as it is a sign of disrespect in their culture and their language takes away that ability with severe lack of pronunciations in which the tongue must project to the front of the mouth.

Kornheiser is in the booth so ESPN had a reason to fire Theisman. I will always be eternally grateful to Tony for that.
September 16th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
if you knew anything youd know i was referring to a simpsons episode where krusty repeatedly says ‘me so solly’
September 16th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Not on MNF or PTI, but his radio show is damn funny.
