Manny for NL MVP? Sure, Why Not?
Baseball September 16th. 2008, 5:25pm
Ugh. Sorry about the delay there. Been stuck in hellish traffic for a minute. Thanks to CRM for bailing us out with the Romo post … even though we we’re big fans of the Cowboys QB and heard he reads the blog. This is why divergent voices are crucial!
First and foremost, Sabathia is in contention for NL Cy Young award.
All Manny has done is vault the Dodgers into a 4.5 game lead in the NL West, and batted a robust .395 in 42 games with 14 homers and 43 RBI.
It ain’t gonna be Ryan “.234″ Howard or Chipper, who has a meek 72 RBI for an also-ran. Pujols? Yeah, he’s probably the logical choice … but based on the Dodgers rise in the West, you gotta consider the guy.

Geo Soto-
Good hitting catcher
Catching one of the best staffs in NL

His bat has been worth an incredible 26 runs in only 42 games, but he’s probably given back 5-8 runs with his glove.
That said, he’s not the MVP by a long shot. He shouldn’t even get votes.

Crap, that means he knows about me…

This post has no credibility unless an all-state player in [redacted] out of high school, played college ball at [school] and [college], and was good enough to get scouted by the [NL team] and the [AL Playoff team] weighs in with his opinion.

Reading the title, I thought Intern Bill wrote this. Whoops.

So CRM changed your mind?
Manny has been huge, but MVP, rickockulous.

The division lead is up to 4.5 because the D-Backs went 5-15 in their last 20, granted, with help from the Dodgers (1-5 in 6 games).
No player is MVP when playing for two months. To suggest otherwise is asinine.

You could throw his name in the conversation, but you couldn’t actually seriously consider voting for him for the award. How could a douche like him do what he did in Boston, and then win an MVP? Fuck that.
And the fact Boston continues on the same path they were on when he was on their team, wouldn’t that negate him getting consideration? I know it’s a different league, but still. That was unforgivable as far as 2008 goes.

Jesus Chris this Cub fan bullshit.

Rex, i’m here to voice my opinion.
/one can dream, right.
September 16th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
If anyone other than Tim Lincecum wins the NL Cy Young, that’s absolute bullshit… he has been hands down the most dominate pitcher, and if he had a decent team behind him he’d be going for 25 wins instead of 18 right now.
September 16th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
K-Rod should win the NL and AL Cy.
September 16th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
You forgot to add /bizarro Nick
Nice joke on the Soto, too.
September 16th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
@jaywashere-I agree Lincejizz is fucking dominant. Brandon Web sucks I hope he doesnt win it. They really need to look at the ERAs.
September 16th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Then Chase Utley should win MVP for his first two months. Two months as consideration is a joke.

Its a fact - Tony Romo does not know how to read

This has absolutely nothing to do with my being a Cardinals fan(and thus a Pujols fan), but you’re crazy TBL. 2 months does not an MVP make. I don’t care what the guy hits.
It’d also be a crime if Sabathia wins the Cy Young.

I thought they awarded the triple crown to Lance Berkman back in April, shouldn’t he get the NL MVP also?
September 17th, 2008 at 8:55 am
This certainly ranks among the most asinine posts in the history of this blog…and that is saying something.

This was a stupid argument when it was made about Shannon Stewart sparking the Twins a few years back. Nothing has changed. The fact that the Dodgers have barely improved their overall record with Manny is more relevant than the Dodgers gaining a lead in the NL West, which has more to do with the suckitude of the Diamondbacks.
Not a day of posts TBL should want to keep handy for any future gigs (unless it is for sports radio or some talking head arguing show). Just a lousy day of crap.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:59 am
And Albert Pujols is the hands down winner of the NL MVP. He is among the leaders in counting stats and blows away the competition in rate stats. It’s not his fault the Cardinals have no pitching staff.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:15 am
@Jesus- Plus, he’s had Ryan freakin’ Ludwick as his “protection” for most of the season. But, just as Bernie Miklasz has said, the writers will somehow manage to screw him out of the award.
