Nefarious Nike Placement, or Just a Mistake?
College Football September 17th. 2008, 10:30am
Syracuse legend Ernie Davis died in 1963. Nike gave birth to its iconic swoosh in 1971. The school unveiled a statue of the Elmira Express recently. Mysteriously, with a swoosh or two.
The school claims it was a simple mistake, and the sculptor is on the case. Be interesting to see how this one plays out.

This is a little funny. I wonder if Babe Ruth would have endorsed Nike?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Why the hell put ANY corporate logo on a statue of a legend? It’s a dumb idea no matter when the ‘Swoosh’ was invented.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Babe Ruth would have been an Adidas guy.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Nike’s are the most uncomfortable shoes ever.
/high arches
September 17th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Paul Lukas is all over this
September 17th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Oh and Kevin Duckworth didn’t? Where’s his statue?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Thread jack…Colts Bob Sanders could be out 4-6 weeks with high ankle sprain.

The smartest thing I ever did was switch to New Balance.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Wow… looking like a rough year for the Colts.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:46 am
@Battlin’ Billy Smith
+1
New Balance rocks!
September 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
The swooshes are coming off.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Its gotta be the shoes
September 17th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Let’s cherish this moment Maggs because we may never agree on anything else again. Nike’s blow ass.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Don’t even get me started on this. All I sell are running shoes 50 hours a week. I know far more than would be considered useful about running shoes. However, Nike is ruthless with this stuff. It’s no mistake.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Nike actually has a couple of good running shoes out there, their new stuff isn’t bad. Of course, of the roughly 25 different running shoes they make, we only carry 5.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Adidas running shoes are the shit and they’re 2 for 1 at the outlet mall near my house.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:51 am
They should have put some Jordans on him.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:52 am
They should’ve laced up Davis with some Air Max 90 Infrareds.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Nike’s are for the cool kids. It’s no wonder you guys are haters.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Actually, adidas running shoes are shit. Their running division is fucked up it’s absurd. They’re trying to combine warehouses with Reebok and it’s going terribly. They have like 3 decent shoes. And I’ve been an Adidas guy since sophomore year of highschool, but they’re shitty right now.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:54 am
I basically am forced to wear Asics or Mizunos, which I am actually quite happy about. Every season I get a new pair from the discount rack at Dunhams. Spending $30 on shoes >>>> spending $130 on shoes.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:54 am
I was a cool kids back in the day, but these days function means more than fashion.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Completely agree. Anyone REALLY believe the artist came up with the touch of adding Nike swooshes on his own without administration help? Very naive on Syracuse’s part to think they wouldn’t get called out on it.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:56 am
I only rock BK Dymacels.

September 17th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Nike Air force Ones low, white. gotta have them every year. $40 at Bealls outlet
September 17th, 2008 at 10:57 am
My shins couldn’t disagree with you more. Which brands are best for the money then?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Did anyone ever rock Converse with React Juice?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:58 am
You people run?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:59 am
If any of you go to specialty running stores, and you pick a shoe based on looks, don’t return it. It’s fuckin’ infuriating. Fine, don’t take our advice when you 85 foot problems, but don’t bitch to me when you find the shoe uncomforatble.
/Just had to deal with a customer like that.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Another reason Syracuse athletics has become a joke. I like how Syracuse is trying to backtrack and say it was the sculptors mistake. I highly doubt the sculptor just put nike insignias all over the the statue on his own.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:00 am
I’ll bike, swim, climb, lift and let people kick me in the nuts before I run.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:00 am
I prefer XJ-900’s or Pro-Wings.
/having my first shoe conversation since I was 12.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Groin, Adidas has about two good shoes right now. The Boston Classic (which hasn’t changed in 10 years), and the Supernova Cushion (which is what I’ve been wearing for 6 years). The only reason they’re the only good shoes Adidas has is because they haven’t changed. Look for those.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:02 am
@Tampa, never rocked them but i know what you’re talking about.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am
cbh - about 15 miles a week. Usually buy the previous years New Balance models at Kohls or wherever for about $40.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Maybe the sculptor was high and was like wouldnt it be cool if had some Nikes on.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:04 am
*he had
September 17th, 2008 at 11:05 am
ASICS are the way to go. No doubt
September 17th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Thanks for affirming my choice of shoes Billy. I’m wearing a pair of supernova cushions right now.
@cbh49er, I used to be a 240 lb lazy tub ‘o shit. I took up running a year ago and I now weigh 185. I run out of necessity, not for fun.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:06 am
I’m just pumped to see some other runners on here.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Well Syracuse doesn’t anymore.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:09 am
billy, my buddy recommended the Supernova’s to me a few years ago. i get a new pair every year. they’re really sweet.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:10 am
I only run in Z-Coils. (buckner, can I get an Amen?)
September 17th, 2008 at 11:14 am
hey billy. did you say you were ok with new balance. i run 20 miles/week.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:14 am
I agree. Hatred of Nike shoes bringing OSU and UM fans together. Reebok may be worse.
I agree with Rockstar Asics are great.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Amen brotha.
New Balance can be good, depending on which model and how your foot moves. Anything 700 series and above in NB is good.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:17 am
No one cares for Brooks? I’ve never had any, but I see them a lot on the trail.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:19 am
I feel lazy, I run on the treadmill once in a blue moon, that’s about it.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:20 am
but I see them a lot on the trail
+1 clown
September 17th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Brooks is the #2 company nationally, but their warehouses are all fucked up right now.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Asics are great road shoes. Brooks makes some good trail shoes.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Buckner really knows his running shoe shit. He’s a connoisseur of sorts
September 17th, 2008 at 11:27 am
He’s a regular shoemmelier.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Thanks ya. It’s my job. It has been for 3 years. I did it summers and winter breaks for school, and now I’m doing it for a full year while I take a year off school. But I’ve picked up a ton of knowledge over the last couple years. Running a ton in high school and college helped, too. That’s partially why I’m transferring, cuz my coach was a douche.
