Absolute must-read: Mark Cuban’s inbox was overflowing with vile emails from Dallas fans who are incredibly ticked off at 28-year-old forward Josh Howard for his comments regarding the National Anthem. Cubes, of course, printed the emails, along with the names and email addresses of some of the angrier folks.
Here are a few comments we simply didn’t understand:
“Send him to Indiana to be with his fellow criminals.” Huh? Josh Howard is from North Carolina.
“remind him that that National Anthem is the reason he is so ridiculously over paid, even though he probably went to maybe 2% of his classes at Wake-and probably can’t balance his own checkbook!” In the next sentence, this clown tells Cuban he wants to talk movies.
“I don’t spend my money on this NBA shit, I am white.” Wonder if he supports the NFL or MLB.
“if not for America, he’d probably be be throwing spears in Africa someplace instead of free-throws.” What is wrong with people?
“A White storm is brewing Mr. Cuban, you and those niggers like you better evacuate.” What is wrong with people?
“Send him to REALITY, where he should be; bagging groceries and/or in prison.” What is wrong with people?

What is the more interesting story, that a bunch of racist, idiots emailed Mark Cuban or that an NBA star, who already ran his mouth and said something dumb a few months ago, has now ran his mouth and said something even dumber. It’s not about what’s worse, it is about what tells the better story, which is what the media is interested in. This Cuban thing will get little to no play except on sports blogs.

There was an implicit expectation of privacy when they sent that email. Who knows, maybe someone wrote a racist email and put their boss/ex/friends name on it. People can lose jobs over shit like this, and Cuban of all people should know this.

Even worse Mike, now that I look at it, these were straight from the Comments board, so people didn’t even need access to the email, they just had to type it into the box when they left a comment.

I like that Cuban exposed people using racist language, I have a problem with lumping some of the other emails in there that weren’t racist, the ones that attacked Cuban for letting it slide and being anti-american for his association with that movie (never heard of it, didn’t know about it). Either way, that would suck if your email was on that post and it wasn’t racist, but of course, if you got googled for a work background check and that came up, you’d get lumped in. I guess the lesson in all this is don’t mess with billionaires.

You ask a girl out, she goes home and googles you. The identity of these emailers is completely unverifiable, yet he posted their supposed names and email. Guess what, you don’t get many jobs or dates when your name is associated with hate like that, whether you did it or not.
It’s reckless and borderline illegal, the comments box specifically says “Mail (will not be published) (required)”.

I am sure this has been discussed above, but I didn’t read every comment. I think that Cuban crossed the line on printing the email addresses, I don’t believe that is the proper response. That being said, many had comments that I had no issue with. Obviously the ones that used racial slurs were beyond reprehensible, but some of these men/women were most likely veterans who fought for our country and gave Mr. Howard the rights he now has. If he feels “disrespected” because he is black and “George Bush hates black people”, then that is his business I suppose, but I feel NO empathy for someone in his position disrespecting the National Anthem “because he’s black.” That is disgusting and a slap in the face to the people who have fought to protect the rights we do have here.
Are there plenty of racists in America? Of course. But, believe it or not, they are not all white. That being said, there is a reason that damn near every other country in the world would rather be like our country. Because while it is not perfect, it is about the closest to it.
In my opinion, Josh Howard is a very ignorant person that has a fantastic skill. It is my choice as a sports fan to not cheer for him (or even boo him if I so desire), but I will not take it to the extreme that these people did.
Where is Josh Howard’s apology/explanation? And, come on Cuban, your player is in the public eye…like it or not, what he does on camera is not a “private matter.”

My point was that these emailers have every right (in a non-racial way) to choose not to support Josh Howard and the Mavericks because of his remarks (I believe we have those rights as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Oh, and my “veteran” comment was not just about white vets…I’m sure there are plenty African-American veterans who took great offense to that comment. Just because we have free speech in this country doesn’t mean we have to sit silent when ignorant people speak.
