On ESPN radio earlier today, out of left field, the biggest Ron Powlus cheerleader in the history of college football felt confident with what his crystal ball told him about the 2010 National Championship football game (a little under 14 months away!). Because the sport is largely schedule-driven – with a win in Morgantown, South Florida could be in the National Championship game this year, folks – a brief, wayyyyyyy too early look at whether or not this has a scintilla of credibility.

Penn State schedule looks like. Road trips to Illinois (won’t be easy if Juice returns), Michigan (improved, but still a year or two away), and Michigan State (Ringer won’t be around). Get Ohio State (Beanie might be gone, the defense will graduate a ton) at home. One open slot on the schedule, but it’ll be a cupcake, for sure. Offensively, Clark and Royster return, and they’re off to tremendous starts.

Alabama’s 2009 schedule is a bit tricky (or we just suck at navigating the net). It looks like the Tide have five open dates left. Seems like a high number. Anyway, it looks like Nick Saban gets LSU and Tennessee at home, but has to travel to Auburn. No Florida? Ole Miss could be a tough road game. There’s always the SEC championship, too. Three of ‘Bama’s offensive skill players – Coffee, Jones, and Ingram – will return.

Below, a video of Cook, though not the one with today’s prediction (but with a mention of the USC Song Girls!). It is odd to see him with the glasses.
