More of a Debacle: Economy or the Top 10?
College Football September 27th. 2008, 10:46pm
Probably closer than you think today; not so much next week when banks across the nation begin collapsing.
1. USC. Lost to unranked Oregon State, 27-21
3. Georgia. Lost to No. 9 Alabama, 41-30.
4. Florida. Lost to unranked Ole Miss, 31-30.
9. Wisconsin. Lost to unranked Michigan, 27-25.
16. Wake Forest. Lost to unranked Navy, 24-17.
20. Clemson. Lost to unranked Maryland, 20-17.
23. East Carolina. Lost to unranked Houston, 41-24.
Oklahoma will, unanimously, be No. 1 when the new polls come out. It stomped a decent TCU team, 35-10. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know, Nick Saban is the next Bear Bryant. [Ed. Oh brother. Unemployed NFL RB Shaun Alexander just told Holly Rowe, 'you're about to see some Bear Bryant days.']

CRM, look at you, up near a CPU on a saturday night!
September 27th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
You know what’s really scary? Ohio State is inching it’s way back to the top by default.
/I just threw up in my mouth.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
also, i’m so pissed i was a week off on ole miss. was on them last week and they choked at home against vandy. CLEARLY ole miss was looking ahead to the game against Florida.
here’s what i said after watching Ole Miss lose a late, close one on the road against Wake
Worst part about Black Saturday? OSU and USC are completely back in the mix. already.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
ha! cabbage and i were thinking alike.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
There seems to be one or two of these weekends every year. 3 or 4 Top 10 teams go down. A few other Top 25 teams die. And SEC fans are overly sensitive about anything.
Bigger emerging story… Notre Dame in a BCS bowl? What, 9 wins is all they have to have? Sorry if I’m not sure of the answer. It has been awhile since that has seemed possible.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
“OSU and USC are completely back in the mix. already.” TBL
/Tears
You are correct. Especially since OSU switched Qbs. “What if he had have played the whole game against USC?” questions will start being asked.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
ahem, frauds
September 27th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
no way can usc get back in it with their schedule
but if osu deals psu their only loss, sadly you can make the argument
on an unrelated note.
one of my friends and my roommate have bet me that i cant eat only peanuts for a week. i can have any liquid as long as its a liquid and not any sort of smoothie, and any kind of peanut as long as its only peanuts (no trail mix, mixed nuts, peanut brittle, peanut butter, etc).
if i lose, i have to abandon the whitesox and become a pirates fan
if i win, i get 100 dollars from my friend and get to punch my roommate in the stomach
September 27th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
My boys from LSU will probably be #2 in the morning.
And I’m here to tell you, we ain’t #2.
/just to show I’m not delusional
September 27th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
OSU is not back in the mix. I don’t want them there. They don’t deserve to be there. They are a 3-4 loss team, still. The offense is better with Beanie, but the line still SUCKS. The defense is passive and won’t beat good teams.
IF they beat Wisky next week (nice choke this afternoon Bielema) and Penn State on October 25 (those are HUGE IF’s), then we can talk about OSU being in a mix for anything.
/I would vote Bama #1
//I hate Satan, but they have been DAMN impressive
September 27th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Side note: Chris Rock killed tonight. It was a little slow at first, too political, then it picked up.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
I will say this though. If LSU and Alabama are both unbeaten when they play, they will need Homeland Security at that game when Nick Saban returns to Baton Rouge.
(for the record, I think there is zero chance that LSU will be unbeaten. I don’t trust the quarterback and defensive backs entirely yet)

so i live three miles from beaver stadium and can still see the lights, the entire sky is lit up. thats good stuff.

Big college football wins in a college football town = a fun night.

CRM-How was your debate party?
TBL-Did YOu see Chris ROck on HBO funny shit I could relate to almost everything. And How bout them Wolverines.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Alabama’s schedule has set them up nicely. If they can somehow win at LSU they’re going to run the table because Aubrurn’s offense is atrocious.
Of course they then have to win an SEC title game probably against Georgia or Florida, so good luck with all that. My top 5 for next week.
1. Oklahoma
2. LSU
3. Missouri
4. Alabama
5. Penn State
Texas would be 6 since they’ve beaten no one yet. By the way there are 18 unbeaten teams right now and 5 are from non BCS schools. The ACC and Pac 10 have none already.
Get ready for last year all over again.

Can’t argue with your list, but it is weird to see Penn St. up there. Are they really back? We’ll see, but who else would go in #5? I think Texas is going to get chewed up in the Big 12 Big win tonight, but I’m not buying yet. After them, ???? BYU? Eh.
September 28th, 2008 at 12:05 am
I can’t get too hyped over Notre yet. Maybe when Claussen learns how to hit a gentleman shot in beerpong I’ll be swayed. Bitch.
September 28th, 2008 at 12:10 am
holy shit theres a new fast and the furious movie coming out. with the original cast. there is no god.
September 28th, 2008 at 12:24 am
But if USC dealt OSU their only loss (which would have to be the case if OSU is back in it) then you can’t make that argument? That is retarded. If the SEC beats up on each other (likely) and everybody has 2 losses except, say, Oklahoma USC and OSU, Ohio State is the odd man out.
September 28th, 2008 at 12:28 am
I can’t get too hyped over Notre yet.
Don’t worry. ESPN has you covered.
September 28th, 2008 at 1:28 am
Prob had the worst afternoon one could ever have picking games but rebounded strong at night going 3-0. Gotta love the roller coaster that is college football.
September 28th, 2008 at 1:33 am
PSU now has 1 quality win (if you consider Ill quality) and they’re in position to jump into the top 6. They took a full quarter to get going against the Temple dynasty last week, were a correct overturned call away from being down 17-7 or 21-7 today, and almost got their QB injured when the game was in hand today.
It’s great following a school that will always start ranked well thanks to their name. If only our name was OSU, we’d be number 1 or 2 by now. But then we’d be stuck living in Ohio and we’re already close enough to Pittsburgh.
Where in PSU moleman? I swear I could hear the cheers from Park Forest when D-Will ran that one back
September 28th, 2008 at 1:46 am
ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE MOFOs!!!
September 28th, 2008 at 2:11 am
pretty close to park forest on valley vista
September 28th, 2008 at 2:11 am
So who knew the Alabama strength and conditioning guy meant “everyone in the Top Ten except ‘Bama”?
This whole thing is terrifying. I’m starting to cheer for a Big 12/SEC title game now.
September 28th, 2008 at 2:29 am
You’ll need that $100 to pay the disturbing the peace fine that’s going to come from all of the screaming when you take a shit.
September 28th, 2008 at 3:33 am
It’s interesting b/c I’m an OSU diehard fan, and I said after USC that I wanted no part of having to deal with another blowout loss in a title game again. But the more I watch everyone else, I think anyone could win a title game against anyone (delusional?.. I’m not sure.. we got destroyed against USC, but we didn’t have Beanie, and as bad as our line looks, Beanie instantly makes them look like all-americans). Not to mention Pryor is outshining a 6th year Senior who’s taken a team to a national championship game.
Scary.
September 28th, 2008 at 3:45 am
PSU is good, gotta be in the Top 10 now. Still…that schedule is E-Z. At least they haven’t lost though.
Haha Georgia. Haha.
September 28th, 2008 at 4:21 am
Having a quarterback with escapability makes a line look better too.
September 28th, 2008 at 7:44 am
I think I accurately predicted Alabama controlling both sides of the line.
September 28th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Mark Richt is already preparing his speech in December about why his team should play for the national championship instead of the SEC champion.
September 28th, 2008 at 9:30 am
penn st is a big ? for the buckeyes but i am not as worried about wiscinsin as i was when the day started.
and osu is now almost a completely different team with pryor playing the whole game and a healthy well…they dont deserve to be there now but lets see how b10 play shakes up with wisky ill and psu to play.
September 28th, 2008 at 10:04 am
The SEC is overrated. Florida — a title “contender”– loses to Mississippi, who lost to Wake, who lost to Navy, who got their butts kicked by Duke.
College football is like electing a Republican nominee. Only consider the next in line, no matter how much they may suck ….
September 28th, 2008 at 10:08 am
i will say yesterday was a very entertaining day of college football…UM self destructing, then Wisconsin returning the favor, seeing pryor and wells together finally, georgia and florida…great stuff last night
September 28th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Really? Do you want to start that game? If that’s your college football logic then we should have but Appalachian St. in a major bowl game last year. The SEC is overrated this year. But it’s still the best conference in the nation. I really like the Big 12 but give me Mizzou’s schedule all day over Auburn’s, for example.
September 28th, 2008 at 10:44 am
I think we can all agree that Georgia’s loss was one of the most impressive loses of the season. If would be a travesty if this game’s highlights aren’t in every highlight package you see over the week. God, I hate it when great teams are disrespected.
September 28th, 2008 at 10:50 am
The SEC being “overrated” and the “best conference” is not mutually exclusive. It’s certainly a gauntlet to get through, but to act like the top five teams in the SEC are playing a different level of football than the rest of the top 10 is insanity (not saying anyone here made that point, but it’s commom thought around the south).
September 28th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Scarlett off the market!!
September 28th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Sunday NFL Picks:
Titans -3
Saints -4.5
Eagles -3
September 28th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Only if it pisses you off.
Have I mentioned lately that the SEC wins barely 40% of its games against the Big East since 1990?
Too bad UCONN scheduled Baylor instead of Florida …
September 28th, 2008 at 11:42 am
When somebody actually beats an SEC team in a championship game, then we’ll talk.
Arkansas is the only shit team in the conference this year. Miss State will probably win 3-4 but they are competitive. After that, the other ten teams have a very good chance at being bowl eligible this year.
September 28th, 2008 at 11:54 am
“When we have a playoff system that pits the two hottest teams against each other rather than a “system” that pits two teams that are supposedly good against each other and the SEC still wins that game, then we’ll talk.”
Fixed that for you.
