The Baseball Postseason Begins in 7 Minutes
Baseball October 1st. 2008, 3:00pm
Today’s opener pits Philly’s strikeout star, Cole Hamels (sixth in the NL!), and Milwaukee’s phenom Yovani Gallardo, who was injured for much of the season. No pressure on the Phillies or anything, but CC Sabathia is going in Game Two for the Brewers, and the way he’s pitched in the last two weeks (16 IP, 1 ER) gives Milwaukee a huge advantage.
After you take the time to inspect Ryan Howard’s lady friends, follow the jump for our meaningless postseason predictions, wherein we have the two favorites losing in the first round!
DLS: Philly over Milwaukee in four, Dodgers over the Cubs in five, White Sox over the Rays in four, and the Red Sox over the Angels in five.
LCS: Los Angeles over Philly in six, and Boston over Chicago in five.
WS: Dodgers over the Red Sox in six. It is entirely possible that we get every single one of these series’ wrong. In fact, it seems likely.

Milwaukee, LAD, LAD
Boston, Tampa, Boston, Boston
October 1st, 2008 at 3:03 pm
I’m okay with the Red Sox making it to the World Series, but only if they get their asses handed to them by the NL representative. Cubs – Red Sox would be entertaining. The ex-Red Sox factor for the Dodgers is another great angle.
Either way, I’ll be fine as long as Boston or Tampa don’t win it all.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:05 pm
NLDS: Cubs, Phillies
ALDS: Angels, Rays
NLCS: Cubs
ALCS: Angels

I was supposed to be hammered and at the Phillies game right now. Instead, I’m here working until 7. Fuck. My. Life.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Those picks are crap.
/Hef
/pushed up glasses
/clicks on tab for Baseball Prospectus
October 1st, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Anyone can pick teams that are still in it. It takes real balls to pick teams that aren’t. So I’m going out on a limb and saying Indians/Astros in the World Series. Book it.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Happy…nicely played.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:09 pm
ALDS: Tampa over Angels
NLDS: Philly over Chicago

The Phillies’ bullpen has been damn good. It’s shocking, really.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:10 pm

October 1st, 2008 at 3:11 pm
White Sox win the whole thing.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:11 pm
And I’m diggin’ the Ryan Howard picture. Got drunk with him in Kutztown once, whatta weird Saturday that was. Cool dude though, paid for a keg he drank all of 2 beers from.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:13 pm

October 1st, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Bron > Kobe
October 1st, 2008 at 3:16 pm
I predict the White Sox beat the Rays in 3, then the Angels in 4, and then the Red Sox in another 4 just for fun and to stay fresh while the NLCS is still being played.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Anyone other than the Cubs.
Would love to see the Brewers do some damage, there fans have suffered for quite some time.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Click my name for my playoff predictions, except replace Twins with White Sox.
This Dodgers over Cubs thing seems to be gaining steam, I don’t see it.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Those chicks Howard is with look like Tiger Woods and David Duval
October 1st, 2008 at 3:19 pm
fetch is sticking with the Twins.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Ark, that’d be nice for the Brewers, but I don’t think it’s happening. Maybe if they had guaranteed 15 game winner Jeremy Bonderman on their team….
October 1st, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Phils over the Sawx(as opposed to the Sox)
October 1st, 2008 at 3:20 pm

October 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
NLDS: Cubs, Brewers
ALDS: Angels, Rays
NLCS: Cubs
ALCS: Angels
WS: Cubs
Did I really just pick the Cubs? Wow.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I keep hearing how the Dodgers’ pitching is the tits, but if we say Big Z sucks then Cubs have a 3-man rotation of Dempster (awesome at home), Harden (beast), and Lilly (rock-solid, especially the past month). If Zambrano can pitch well, they’re going to dominate.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Travis Henry>Nate Newton
October 1st, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Can you guys quit picking on my boy Maggs? He’s going to get a complex…
October 1st, 2008 at 3:27 pm
“multikilogram cocaine transaction”
I assume that isn’t good.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:27 pm
The Dodgers are the worst team in the postseason right now. No way they make it out of the first round.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Red Sox over the Phils.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm
There you go using useless statistics like “wins” and “losses”.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm
after i read that first line i was sure you were going to talk about ryan howard, not hamels.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm
+1 roeth
October 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm
the Sox, seriously? I am shocked by this pick.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Hey, gotta make those child support payments somehow.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm
did anyone see the cubs pre-postseason rally where the governor of our lovely state sounded like a jackass? yeah that was retarded. he wants us to make manny get a haircut…yeah! that will show ‘em!
anyway.
cubs sweep the dodgers
sox will beat the rays 3-1
angels will sweep the red sox(hopefully)
the brewers will beat the phillies 3-2
cubs will beat the brewers 4-2
sox will beat the angels 4-3
the whole city of chicago will be in total chaos and i will be waiting at bestbuy to get me the huge ass flat screen i always wanted ad the cubs and white sox go to a seven game series and the cubs finally win the big one and i will be able to tell all the cardinals fans around where i live to go fuck themseleves.
(if any of this actually happens i will be happy as hell…actually as long as the cubs win i dont care if i got it 99%wrong)
October 1st, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Switch Furcal back to Berroa and Ramirez back to Pierre and I’m with you. But damn they’re pretty good now.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Please no Cubs/White Sox series. The other 49 states want to care.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:35 pm
It won’t happen but the most interesting World Series would be Dodgers/Boston, the second most interesting and what will happen is Angels/Cubs.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:36 pm
All I know is that I will be rooting against the Cubs. Their 100 years of misery makes the last 15 years of Pirates baseball seem just a little better.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:36 pm
I hope Manny Lights up the Cubs.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:38 pm
it would be waaaaay more interesting to to have the manny/joetorre vs. boston angle shoved down our throat so the only regions of america that would care is boston new york and l.a. yeah cbh thats what i want to hear from joe buck is constant refernces to the yankes and red sox…great idea
October 1st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Shouldn’t TBL rephrase the post’s title? That shit’s already started.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
so the cubs score 150+ more runs than the dodgers, have an ops thats 65 points higher, and won 13 more games … yet tbl likes LA? did you take that to vegas?
October 1st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Cubs/White Sox would be a horrible, horrible series. This city would be in a state of chaos.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Yes MJ, much more interesting than watching a series that already happened during the season. I am from Virginia, I could give two shits about how much Cubs and White Sox fans hate each other, or which teams fans whine less.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm
guys we are missing the bigger issue…what will the yankees do in the postseason?
October 1st, 2008 at 3:45 pm
I could give two shits about how much Cubs and White Sox fans hate each other, or which teams fans whine less.
CBH-Dont be a cock.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Go Orioles.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:46 pm
CBH-Dont be a cock.
Coming from you?
October 1st, 2008 at 3:47 pm
If the Cubs won, the rioters would burn down Wrigleyville and the Sox fans would help.
If the Sox won, the rioters would burn down Wrigleyville anyway.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Yes comming from me. This shit is serious I wish you understood.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:49 pm
I hope Wrigleyville has good insurance. And from what I can tell so far (since I’m at the store in bumblefuck flying solo with no TV or AM Radio), Hamels looks badass.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:50 pm
And by looks, I mean from what Gameday is telling me.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Ok I will remember that the next time I hear about Notre Dame sucking from you or any other thing you say to me.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:50 pm
I wouldn’t mind seeing a ChiSox/Cubbies series. Just as long as the South Siders win.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Chase Utley is the tits. He’s my neighbor!
October 1st, 2008 at 3:53 pm
CBH-I can talk about ND. Im a michigan guy dont take offense. Being from VA why are you a ND fan anyway?
Sparty-YEA! Thats what I like to hear!
October 1st, 2008 at 3:54 pm
I gotta agree, from the AL, I’m rooting for either the South Siders or the Rays.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Sorry I missed the fan rulebook that said you had to live in that area to like the team.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:56 pm
CBH-Im not talking about you im just curious.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:57 pm
I get endless shit from Philly people for liking all Marlyand/Baltimore teams, except the 76ers and kinda liking the Phillies as a secondary team. At least my teams have won ever.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Grew up watching them on TV, grew to like them.
I admit I was a huge front runner as a kid, but the sports Gods have turned on me and all those teams I liked that were good when I was a kid and that I stuck with generally suck now.
October 1st, 2008 at 3:59 pm
i believe i have an answer for that: Notre Dame Fan Flow Chart
October 1st, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Sparty I don’t consider myself arrogant but that is pretty funny.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Sparty I posted that in all the cubes of the ND alums I work with. They were not amused.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:04 pm
That flow chart is AWESOME.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:11 pm
i am always big on flow charts. and when you throw in sports, even better.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Sparty, can you make a similar one for Gator fans?
October 1st, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Are you an auditor?
October 1st, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Your hatred for the Irish is impressive.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Diesel, no. i just always found them very useful for tracking cause and effect in any business i have been involved with.
GG-sorry, I think BC fans made that up. It was emailed to me by a commenter at my site.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:22 pm
TSH-you have no idea.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:26 pm
My dad bread me to hate ND with a burning passion, along with Duke and UNC.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:27 pm
my dad had no influence on me when it came to college sports. he went to fairleigh dickinson. he had no interest in college sports until we moved to Michigan.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Now that baseball season is over you and I won’t agree on much Billy, except for the Duke hatred.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Damn cbh. Sorry, at least February is only a few months away.
And Duke can go collectively fuck themselves. Arrogant pricks.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:34 pm
You could easily substitute Duke basketball for most things on the ND football flow chart.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Both my grandfathers went to Duke, one of them played for Eddie Cameron, my family is baffled by my Duke hatred.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Wow. That’s absolutely true. Creepy.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:16 pm
ALDS: Boston, White Sox
ALCS: toss up
NLDS: Cubs, Phillies
NLCS: Phillies (SOMETHING will happen to the cubs to add to the “curse”)
World Series: whoever wins the AL
