Punta Brava Welcomes Tiger Woods
1-liner, Golf October 8th. 2008, 6:00pmIsn’t that … Mexico?: “[Tiger Woods] has designed a golf course on a spectacular piece of land along the Pacific Ocean, just south of Ensenada and about 70 miles south of San Diego. It is called Punta Brava (Wild Point), and is a $100-million project financed by entrepreneur and former NFL and NBA owner Red McCombs.” Hmmm. We’re not geography majors, but Tijuana, Mexico (second reference today!) is only 16 miles south of SD. TJ Simers, care to chime in? (LA Times)

and yet only 1 for Hockey… which starts tomorrow.
October 8th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
YOU BOYS LIKE MEXICO!
October 8th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Jibble – Hockey is the bastard stepchild of the sports world. Unloved and unwanted.
October 8th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
It will probably be easy to find landscapers
October 8th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Hockey started saturday. I’m hoping for an 82-0 Ranger season. The dream is alive!
October 8th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
oh damn, totally forgot to do another post. hellish day … this car CRAP should hopefully be done by monday.
who’s watching america’s next top model? lol
no sports = rough night
October 8th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
TBL – dont know if it was brought up yet in comments, but did you hear any of Mike and Mike on the economy and sports?
October 8th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
As in new car, repaired car or what, TBL?
I only caught bits of the Mike & Mike stuff this morning, rick. What’s the short version?
October 8th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
mike and mike on sports? Nope, missed it. i dont watch that show at all anymore. don’t laugh, but GMA 7-9, then sportscenter/regis, then cowherd at 10.
most everything is on mute when Stern is on … he’s away this week, though. as for the economy and sports … this ‘thing’ isn’t going away. it’s going to get ugly over the next few years. and luxury items are the first to go – shopping, dinners out, and sporting events. the NFL will probably be less hit than the others – short season. nba and mlb should seriously consider streaming their games on the net.
Car was called “a complete loss” today. I’m hunting for vehicles now.

Well, for one, initially Golic stated that a majority of fans that attend games were middle class. This got debunked quickly and illustrated that he knows nothing.
The interesting part was that Greenburg had a two-pronged analysis:
1. Suites and Corporate season ticket holders will drop sharply, giving teams less revenue.
2. Players seeking huge contracts (Manny, Texiera, etc) likely wont get em b/c teams wont wanna shell out. He argued this will likely happen next year.
I thought he ignored the fact that average fans who are likely experiencing some sort of financial problems likely wont sympathize with players not getting record setting contracts.
Overall, M&M have no grasp of anything normal people go through and came across as elitist and never having to pay to go to games
/
had to drive all the way to UP
October 8th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
you’re surprised that M&M are elitist? what do you expect from two guys who EASILY clear high 6-figures (shit, who are we kidding, probably a mil) a year? they have no idea. pay to go to games? those guys show up at a restaurant and probably eat for free. they’re celebrities!
frankly, i could give a shit less about the players holding out for more loot.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
CNN/SI had a good article on just this problem today:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/the_bonus/10/03/sports.economy/index.html?eref=T1
It’s true the average fan is just about priced out of everything outside of Baseball these days. If I want to take my family to a hockey game these days, it’s going to run $72 for tickets. And these are the cheap seats (although at the X, they’re quite good). I can’t do that very often each season.
I heard some of Golic’s take, and it was terrible. I did not hear Greeny’s. That’s surprisingly good analysis coming from him.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
And why’d you have to visit the Yoopers, rick?
October 8th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
It was something about how they went about it. You could tell they are losing lots of money in the market, or have friends who are. There was almost a sense of despair in that twerps voice.
TBL – it wasnt about holding out, it was more like the market price has shrunk. They basically only talked about Boras’ players.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Work. I had to drive 6+ hours for 15 minutes of work. Those roads fucking suck.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Never really paid much attention. But I bet they both by thier clothes from the Mens Store at JCPenney’s. hahaha
October 8th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I read somewhere that booze, entertainment and sporting events are usually the last to get hit during one of these “things.” In fact, booze sales and movie reciepts are way up this year. Not sure about sporting events.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I’ll bet. Off the beaten track in the middle of no where is never good. Especially when you see one of these signs:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/186/408482708_0950ebaeee.jpg?v=0
And I’ll believe the market on player salaries has dropped when I see it. And when it does happen, the Players Union is going to cry collusion.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Cool Rick -
You know damn well that Golic shops at Men’s Wharehouse.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
I read that too KC. Beer prices pretty much have been the same and the demand is constant. A person might not drink the same brand, but they will buy some Natty. Money still goes to the same pockets.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
I thought the Puta Brava was in TJ.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I thought I read somewhere that people are more likely to go see a movie than go out to another event, and more likely to stay at home and have a drink than go out.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
you guys watching 90210?
October 8th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
no job, no prospects, your 401k dwindling … yeah, i’d be boozing heavily, too.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
“you guys watching 90210?”
Nope!
“no job, no prospects, your 401k dwindling … yeah, i’d be boozing heavily, too.”
Yep. That was actually the point of the article. It actually mentioned depression was the cause of the boozing and we all now what sparked the depression.
RE: Boozing at home. I got married five years ago. Soon thereafter I realized I had booty at home and didn’t need to spend $5 for a pint about ten times a night and stay out too late hunting for chicks. I will go to a bar to watch a game with friends, but just going out on a weekenight to hook up doesn’t even seem reasonable. Just get a prostitute. Cheaper. No strings. And you will always remember to put a condom on.
/Old Man with impractical advice.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Back during my unemployed days, I did drink more than normal. Was a long 6 months. These days, would probably be worse.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Alcohol and tobacco are recession proof. The other sector is cocaine and weed. My buddy used to move a lot of weight, and was always like “there is no recession in this game, they will steal or change thier priorities.”
October 8th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
KC, smart man. staying out ‘too late hunting for chicks’ was major fun in my early 20s. kinda glad i dont have to do it now.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I’m sure the wife loves to hear that.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
KC just let the bitches come to you man.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
clown – weak game in your 20s is cool … weak game in your late 20s/early 30s is just weak.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
“{Soon thereafter I realized I had booty at home and didn’t need to spend $5 for a pint about ten times a night and stay out too late hunting for chicks” Me
I would like to ammend this statement. It was prior to marriage that I realized this. I was not staying out hunting for chicks after I got married.
“My buddy used to move a lot of weight, and was always like “there is no recession in this game, they will steal or change thier priorities.€”
Yep. I knew a bunch of hippies back in college, good guys, and they had this figured out long ago. Instead of going to bars, they would just sit at home at night and get stoned. Chicks that liked the weed knew them and would always come over. As one guy once told me, “you guys went out and blew $50 hunting chicks and came home empty and we stayed home and they came to us and were baked after smoking half a bowl.” I believe he laced that statement with about 15 “dudes” included. They may have not always been the best looking chics, but they had kitty.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Fetch! You know! You posted that while I was typing entirely too much. Fetch… I don’t know you, but I sort of do.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
KC- for full disclosure, if there ever was like a TBL commenter tourney as far as game goes I’d finish last, I have none of it. But one thing I have learned is you might as well wait for the chicks to come to you, it’s way easier.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
After I graduated college the concept of going to bars to get chicks changed drastically. For one, chicks my age either had been married or had kids. This was a midwest college town. The students were some dumb it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Now the only bars I go too are the ones with cheap wings, locals that show up at 10 a.m and stay all day, and have multiple t.vs showing any-sport requested.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
“But one thing I have learned is you might as well wait for the chicks to come to you, it’s way easier.” Fetch
And cheaper.
Cool – Where did you goto school?
October 8th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I went to Butler (AJ GRAVES IS THE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) But returned to NW OH to go to law school.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
are you guys watching south park. I just saw Indiana Jones just get raped.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Tampa – Damn! Forgot it was on. I’ll catch the replay. I’m not a huge South Park fan, but sometimes it tickles me crooked.
Cool – Cool. Butler had a few good years getting into the tourney, right?
I’m watch Holyfield Bowe II on ESPN something. We are at the part where the dude flew into the ring (or more exactly, the ropes) with the motorized parachute contraption.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Butler had a few good years getting into the tourney, right?
Blasphemous. Sweet Sixteens, losing to eventual champ Florida, knocking off Louisville. You can’t mention Butler on this, they get ingnored.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Cool Rick-I know Mike Miller Haunts your dreams.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Cool – Wasn’t talking shit. Just trying to remember.
Tampa – Ahh, The Mike Miller shot. Yes. I remember now. Butler was so unlucky with that.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Pacman is in trouble again.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Remember when South Park wasn’t terrible?
October 9th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Tiger probably doesn’t know shit about this course; prolly his agent using his name
My Dad owned a bar; he used to say it was the best business in good times and bad.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:12 am
I ended up watching Days of Thunder on Versus. I enjoy how they tried to butch Tom Cruise up with denim, cowboy boots, belt buckles and a faint mullet.
