NBA Two-a-Days: Boston Celtics
NBA October 13th. 2008, 4:00pm
Easy: No repeat. Anther 50 wins, a deep run in the postseason, but ultimate, they won’t win it all. Feel like we’ve talked about this plenty since Boston won its first title 1986. There’s no way the Big Three 30-somethings stay healthy for an entire season, replacing clutch reserve James Posey with a locker room disaster like Darius Miles is asking for trouble, and desire. [That being said, we really, really liked their draft: Giddens has the potential to be a microwave-like producer off the bench, and as we've noted before, Bill Walker could morph into a Scottie Pippen-type player defensively. Potential-laden Patrick O'Bryant has finally escaped Don Nelson's doghouse, and apparently will get a shot.]
Feel free to disagree with us regarding that final point. We’re not saying they won’t try, or the interest won’t be there, because those intangibles don’t vanish. It is incalculable, really. But you play your entire career for that ring, and once you get it as your NBA tenure winds down, well …

PM Rounduhhhhhh… what the fuck?

Maybe they’ll quit effing talking about how much winning means now that they’ve won something…

bill fuckin’ walker…awesome pick.
i agree with everything, pretty much. it’s a lot to ask for either allen or PP to stay healthy for a full season, and how much does KG have left in the tank?
50 wins sounds about right…probably lose in the 2nd round or the finals. hope it’s to the cavs.

Mags…no PM roundup today.

The Big 3 really became the Big 2 down the playoff stretch until Ray Allen re-emerged. And Posey was key for them defensively.
I still think they’re a title contender. KG still hasn’t lost that fire and will continue playing like every minute is Game 7 of the Finals. The question for me is: can the rest of the team keep it up or will they choose to go the San Antonio route, rest during the Dec-Feb doldrums and be content with a 2nd, 3rd or 4th seed? Because that would make their road back to the Finals a lot tougher than they’d like.

T-MAC doesnt like Bill Walker

When did this happen? DARREN!!?
October 13th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
They shouldn’t have even made it out of the first/second round last year. Now they are content and lazy, no chance. You think Paul Pierce was working out this offseason like he was last year?
October 13th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
I think it will be hard to have another season like they had last year. With the big 3 being in the twilight of their careers I don’t know if they will show that same desire, now that they have a ring.

I don’t think the passion is there, but they’ll still win 49 games. No Posey in the playoffs, means the Celtics get knocked out in the second round.

I’m calling it now: these guys are going to be the new Pistons for the next few years.

I get the feeling they drafted Giddens at the request of Paul Pierce. Slashed Jayhawks ballers is a small but exclusive club.
And bill walker with his 30% shooting from three (college 3) is why he fell in the draft. For comp sake beasly shot 38%
As long as Boston plays good defense, they will be a top team in the east. No reason to think they they are much worse off on defense (ray ray was bad last year and they were still good) so they should be very good.

+1.

Bill Simmons disapproves of this breakdown. As do his buddy Gus, his buddy House and the other personalities he has in his head.

I have to agree with this prediction. Injury free they have another 50 plus win season and no 1 seed in the east. I hate typing that shit.

Kevin and Paul would like two.
