GNR Bassist Sounds off on Sorry State of Seattle Sports
1-liner, Music October 17th. 2008, 11:00amWelcome to the Jungle: Former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan tackles the struggling Seattle sports scene. “Well, my argument would be that now more than ever we NEED a winning team. At least the PROSPECT of a winning team. The Sonics are gone (I will get to that in a moment), the Mariners are in shambles, the Hawks are depleted and Holmgren is leaving, and the Huskies’ football program has shrunk to a mere shadow of the dominance and fear that they used to hold the reins of.” Spelling errors aside, it is a solid read. Guns N Roses had a bass player? I was under the impression that the only people ever in that band were Slash and Axle.
Side note: Did anyone in that band have a normal name? Duff? Seriously?

Axl- William “Bill” Bailey from Lafayette In
Izzy – Jeff Dean also from Lafayette
Slash – Saul Hudson
Duff – Michael McKagan
Met these guys in 1988 when they opened for Aerosmith.
One of the more memorable backstage parties ever.
Duff always seemed the more in control one, meaning, he didnt seem to drink as much or snort as much as the others.

Slash’s autobiography is A+. And yeah, Duff was the one guy in the band who could hold his shit together and still seem semi-coherent even after drinking a bottle of JD in less than an hour.
