Last week, there was no leader; now, Texas QB Colt McCoy is out front. By a considerable margin. Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow need a Texas loss to warrant serious consideration.

1. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas. The Missouri defense has always been best-described as a sieve, which is why Colt’s 29-for-32, 337-yard, two-TD clinic Saturday night in Austin is no surprise. That being said … there isn’t a ballot in the country in which the SI coverboy isn’t the leader.

2. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma.

3. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida. If he beats Georgia and FSU in nationally-televised games, and positions the Gators to win the SEC title and get in the BCS title game … then maybe he’s got a case, even if Texas is unbeaten.

3. Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech. He’s this year’s Colt Brennan, and if he can make an unbeaten regular season happen, sure, we’ll get on board. Stats are impressive.

Smell you later:
Javon Ringer, Michigan State. Game of the season and he goes for 67 yards on 16 carries. See you in the fifth round in April, guy.

Chase Daniel, Missouri. Nice stats. Nice career. Too bad he doesn’t have a running back. Or a defense.

Sorry we even mentioned him:
Derrick Williams, Penn State. Two catches for 16 yards against Michigan? Desmond Howard, he’s not. Unless he does it against Ohio State …

Hate to do this, but he could be in the discussion this time next week:
Chris Wells, Ohio State. Because the cynic in us thinks that maybe if the Buckeyes beat Penn State, and then run the table … yes, they’ll be back in the title game. And Pryor, as good as he’s been, cannot be considered here. Next year though, TP might open as the favorite.
