Media News & Notes
Media Gossip/Musings October 20th. 2008, 5:00pm
Time to gloat, baseball fans: The Tampa Bay/Seattle NFL game on NBC drew virtually no sports fans, and presumably was destroyed by Game Seven of the ALCS (still waiting for a link to those). Doom and gloom is predicted for the World Series. Even though the Phillies are dogs, at least one site is projecting them to win. Bonus: Video of Dickie V cheering!
“CBS’ Tim Brando Saturday, before Sunday’s BCS rankings put USC fifth overall as well as fifth in the Harris Interactive poll element of the rankings, suggests USC’s relatively weak schedule won’t hurt the Trojans: “They’re playing Notre Dame. Nobody cares that Notre Dame is no good, least of all the Harris poll people, who are out hunting now. USC is on the doorstep of the national title game right now.” Hunting? Ha! That’s two weeks in a row Tim Brando has scored big points with us. (USA Today)
“Right through the ALCS, TBS’s lead play-by-player, Chip Caray, worked hard to confuse simple realities with crazy talk, with needless, mindless embellishments.” And for dessert, everyone gets Buck and McCarver! (Mushnick)
This was discussed over the weekend, but TBS completely crapped itself at the start of Game Six. Talk about a brick. (Sports Media Watch)

Everyone in Tampa was pissed I was at the fucking Palm chillin with Tony Little and everyone fucking freaked. I was calm because shit I like the Steve Harvery Show it was a good episode.

That sentence from Mushnick sounds like crazy talk.

13.4 million for game 7 of the ALCS:

Too bad for Fox, they’re not coming close to those numbers for the World Series.

I’m shocked the numbers for the football game were that high. You figure virtually no one in the Tampa area is watching, so you’re left with a handful of Seattle fans, sentimental Mike Alstott fans, and what, die-hard sports fans without cable?

The paper I work for was getting calls about TBS not airing the start of the game. Some people wanted us to call and gripe TBS out. Because all media is owned by the same company, apparently.

Why are the Phillies dogs? They will win this series, no question.
