whatever happened to heather graham? i remember seeing her in a few movies then like five years later shes on scrubs. maybe she shouldnt have gone naked so soon in her career?
not getting much publicity (and how a movie about pedophilia and child vampires could is beyond me) but if you happen to live somewhere that ‘let the right one in’ is opening this weekend, go see it
October 24th, 2008 at 8:20 am
hold on, NickP. I am still thinking…
October 24th, 2008 at 8:20 am
I’m not gonig to bother reading the link on the Cavaliers. There is no doubt they are the best run in Ohio, just means they’ll be the last to leave or fold.

Silva is, right now, the most dangerous fighter. I am not a fan of pound for pund bullshit because there are too many ways to judge a fighter. But, Silva actually moved up a weight class for one fight recently and crushed the guy. He can knock a guy out and he is one of the best ground guys ever. Can’t be overrated if every fighter wants a shot at you and they all know it’s going to be their most difficult fight.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Who’s Eddie Curry? Who’s Adam Morrison?
Why does anybody care if they suck? Isn’t the point to notice who’s playing well and just jump on their wagon?
October 24th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Who doesn’t like George Karl…the guy loves to call people out and doesn’t really care. Doesn’t care if they get mad or if he gets fired.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:31 am
the funny part was Eddy Curry saying that he was preparing like he normally does…hmm, maybe that’s the problem you fat, waste of space.

swap him for Jelly Jugs Redick.
/sorry couldn’t resist.

I have always found it amazing that pro sports guys get fat and out of shape. They have one fucking job, play a sport. They get paid crazy amounts of money. To top it off the team would probably pay for a personal trainer. And these guys still get fat and out of shape. Fucking amazing. You get paid to do one fucking thing. My bad, two things. Play a sport and not to use drugs. Fucking idiots.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:36 am
i get fat on booze and junk food and im not even a multi millionaire, wheres my contract
October 24th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Guaranteed contracts have been the downfall of the NBA so far. These guys now get paid whether they play or not. What kind of company agrees to pay guys whether they work or not. That’s like the fast track to bankruptcy.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:42 am
don’t confuse the difference between game shape and shape. granted its annoying, but their out of shape is probably more in shape than the average person.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:47 am
does it really matter the difference in the definition of shape…his employer is not happy with his fat ass. I also have no doubt in my mind that my lazy, fat, pill fueled body could probably play better than eddie curry.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:47 am
I actually found it pretty amazing that it didn’t happen to Eddy a few years earlier than it did. Being from Chicago, we all heard the stories about how he just didn’t give a f#ck. He now has enough money to where he’ll never have to work again (or at least he thinks he does), so there’s really no incentive for a guy like him to get in game shape. He just doesn’t care.

I abhor the fact that referees in all sports cannot be criticized by participants, nor are they made available after games to discuss blown calls.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:52 am
@happy – 100% right. that’s exaclty why guaranteed contracts are terrible. get paid, get shitty. As much as I hate the way the NFL operates, I am sure there is an in between that would work so that players are covered, but still motivated to play well.
October 24th, 2008 at 8:56 am
The NFL needs to be very careful about this referee bullshit. Plax basically said it was a bad call. he didn’t criticize the ref specifically. The NFL is on the verge of crossing a line that they don’t want to. The players are mandated to be available for the press, and then are told they can’t answer the questions by the NFL. If they do they are probably going to be fined. I don’t think it’s a wise thing to alienate the very guys who you make speak to the media. At some point the union is going flex and it could get ugly.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:00 am
So the Patriots issued a denial of ESPN’s “report” that the Patriots were upset with Brady’s choice of doctors. Funny that they ran with that story as opposed to the Brett Favre story.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Written like someone who has never been a ref. I have and it isn’t as easy as you might think. If a player criticizes your authority in a game you have to boot him/her or it sets a bad precident and you lose all authority and control over the game. It is needed. Refs shouldn’t have to discuss blown calls either. 9/10 times you know what happened? The ref blew it, you know it, he definitely knows it… so move on. The best team usually wins out unless you (as a ref) are having just a terribly awful day and it affects the final outcome of the game and at the pro level I doubt a ref can make that many bad calls. The only scenarios in which that can happen is if they are A) being paid (which happens don’t think for a second that it doesn’t) or B) it is a final play and the play itself will affect the outcome of the game and the ref blows that one single play (Miami vs. o$u 2002)

No huge lover of Bama, but they are going to destroy a bad Tennessee team.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Tommy – are you a ref/official in any sport? Probably not. Fact of the matter is, most players/coaches don’t know dick about the actual intracacies of the rulebook. I know I was shocked, after playing hoops my entire life, that I got a 40% on a practice exam I took prior to becoming a basketball official.
Generally, 99% of the public doesn’t notice most of our mistakes, because you’re not familiar with the rulebook enough to catch them. And, the majority of what you think are mistakes aren’t. When we do tank one, no one feels worse about it than we do. What good will having a press conference to discuss what we already know was a game-changing mistake be? Here’s the transcript:
Reporter: “What happened on that call?”
Official: “I blew it – I made an error in judgment and I’d like to apologize to X and the fans of X.”
End of press conference.
/If TBL wants, I’d be happy to scan in this year’s review exam for hoops and let anyone who wants to try it take a shot. I guarantee you, as a casual fan, won’t get more than more 70% (the only reason I went that high is that it’s a T/F exam)

No one believes that this Kelly Osborn lookalike got “carved up” by an Obama supporter. What did he use, a spoon?
October 24th, 2008 at 9:07 am
just to clarify, those of you using the ‘you dont know whats its like to be me’ reasoning here, are you refs in a real league of professional sports or college intramural refs?
October 24th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Gotta start one – Manning on the road against the Titans, or J.T. O’Sullivan at home against the dreadful Seahawks? I’m pretty sure picking J.T. O’Sullivan over Peyton Manning is a sign of the apocalypse, but Peyton has been killing me lately.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:12 am
Are you a Buckeye fan? If not, then STFU about shit you know nothing about…stick to facts. FACTS
October 24th, 2008 at 9:13 am
HS hoops official for the last 9 years – typically work 30 to 40 varsity games a year. Have worked dozens of district and state playoff games, including a state quarterfinal game last year where an official on my crew cost a team the game with a “Hochuli-like” call with 0.1 on the clock.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:15 am
@mole
I am a real ref in a real league, not pros.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:16 am
scenario B) defined.
October 24th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Dirty – We’re sharing the same problem. I started O’Sullivan, sine the Titans D is just too good, and Seattle’s D is so very, very bad.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Saban owns Fulmer, but we’re still taking the Vols and the points.
Mind mailing me a check while you’re still feeling like giving away money?
October 24th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Sal Fasano reference. Yes!
Benigno replacing Mad Dog? Insert violence here.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:26 am
If Texas, Alabama, and Penn State all remain undeated, who plays Texas?
It could come down to a who do other coaches and poll voters like best, Joe Pa or Nick Saban? Bama could be on the outside looking in. I can’t see taking a Big Ten school over an SEC team, but stranger things have happened.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:34 am
alabama b/c they have to play a conference championship and penn state doesn’t. i am not sure tx can run the table but i think ou will. if tx does run it and that happens, i think there could be a rematch. unless fla runs the table as well. it’s way early for these discussions. remember how crazy it got the last 2 weeks of the season last yr.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:10 am
No, not a ref now. But I did ref intramural football in college for a while. And it wasn’t easy, I agree.
The answers Roethlishotdog and Magglio provided do not answer the questions for today’s times. More money spent however it’s spent (be it tickets, gambling, what have you) and blanketed coverage are factors in making all participants accountable for their actions during games.
Like Sandibalz said, if the players have to be accountable to the media after games, why can’t they say something about the referees without being punished? And why can’t we have scenarios where the press conference is one question and done? Believe me, though, with the state of refereeing nowadays, those press conferences won’t question only one call.

Years ago, the Vikings had a d-lineman named Curtis “Boo Boo” Rouse who would come to training camp weighing about 375 lbs. The guy worked in a bakery in the off season. I think he was grabbing bear claws 2 at a time.
October 24th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
You have just described agout 90% of all sports “fans”.
