Penn State … Knows How to Riot
Campus Crime, College Football, Fans October 27th. 2008, 10:45amHappy Valley, Saturday night: “Hundreds of people were maced and police were able to clear the streets around 1:30 a.m., after more than two hours of the disturbance … Students cheered for Penn State, screamed obscenities about Ohio State, body surfed and climbed street light poles to get better angles for cell phone photos of the crowd.” Docile, actually.

the video deadspin linked to on the collegian’s page of people getting maced is hilarious. kids are so tough until that shit hits them.

gameday is going to be in lubbock for the 1st time ever. don’t be surprised if the wind is blowing 50 mph.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:51 am
ha, you call that a riot?
October 27th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Toilet Paper? Toilet Paper? Who brings toilet paper to a riot. These people are amatuers. Where are the fires?
October 27th, 2008 at 10:51 am
LOL. now you did it TBL. now spencer will freak out with eight posts in the thread about how you are satan because you hate ohio state.

soon to be in rickrod’s front yard.

cute. i only scream obsceneties when people make stupid accusations about OSU like they wouldn’t beat baylor or vandy or something similarly retarded.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:53 am
how did that happen?
October 27th, 2008 at 10:53 am
So sad that Penn State has to celebrate in October their last legit victory of the season.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Michigan State riots >>>>>>>>>>>>> Penn State riots
October 27th, 2008 at 10:53 am
yea hopefully no one makes a huge deal about this, nothing got too fucked up in town. I watched the news last night and they reported that students were hanging and knocking down lamp posts so they show footage of the lamp posts the next day and they are all standing.
my friend got maced, that’ll be the last time he walks around and does nothing.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:55 am
I’d have to say that, according to the BCS (Burning Couches System) Penn State sucks.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:55 am
This is absolutely nothing compared to what may go down here in Philly tonight (or later this week). I honestly believe that there will be a death, because there people here who like to celebrate by firing guns up into the air.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:56 am
there’s plenty more on PSU later in the day.

Benton Harbor Riots>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Michigan State Riots
October 27th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Jay V – When I was a kid I used to hang with my uncle in East Chicago. Some of his neighbors would shoot off guns when the Bulls won.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Thats tame. I was trying to find the list of riots, but the two best I can remember were the Arts Fest riot of like 1998, which was just insanity. I believe then the Spring of 2001 we won the sweet 16 game there was a decent riot.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:58 am
i thought philly was a tough town? pointing guns “up in the air?”
real fans in real cities fire guns at targets.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:58 am
These are tame compared to the riots of the 90’s, including the Arts Fest riot in ‘97 which somehow occurred despite school not being in session.
/that’s the way it was and we like it, you whippersnappers
October 27th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Different kind of riot, tampa. But in terms of destruction, I still think MSU riots outrank the BH riot.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Oh, ok TBL. Now I see what you meant by a post a day on the big game
October 27th, 2008 at 10:59 am
agreed Jay, If I own a car in philly I’m keeping it in delaware for the next week

I’m confused. Wasn’t PSU ranked higher, and favored? It’s almost as if even the PSU fans thought they were a fraud and were shocked after beating a lowly OSU team. Act like you’ve been there before, even if it’s been 30 years.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:00 am
i lived downtown during arts fest this summer. i have never wanted to steer my car into a crowd of people more than i did that week driving home from work each day.
riot police are always out after games, if kids dont want to get maced they shouldnt confront the cops
October 27th, 2008 at 11:00 am
we know better. :^)
but seriously, vandy is the fraud of the year. losing to duke??? my, how that sec is so strong!
October 27th, 2008 at 11:02 am
This has to be a tough week for OSU fans. They have NO chance of making a BCS game this year. However, fans of every other team rejoice that we do not have to see sweater vest get destroyed in another big game.
Also:
1. The “pylon” call that michigan got is one one of the worst calls I have ever seen an official make. Not only did he over rule another official but he also had the benefit of instant replay and still got it wrong.
2. I owe sparty an apology. Ringer > Royster > Beannie. Good call by Tressel to run 75% of the plays against PSU for 2-3 yards a carry.
3. The SEC being a defensive conference is seriously overrated this year. The big 12 > the big ten > sec in terms of conference strength.
4. Texas Tech actually has a shot of beating Texas this weekend.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:02 am
they hadn’t beat osu in 30 years, thats a pretty good reason to celebrate, also that win practically signifies an undefeated season
October 27th, 2008 at 11:03 am
+1 Triston
October 27th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Roeth, the funniest thing about the Arts Fest riot is it just started out of nothing, the bars close, people are waiting in line for pizza, next thing you know thousands of kids throwing trash cans through windows, kegs off of balconies, and tearing out trees/lamps. That was wild, I was watching from a distance, had two roommates who were maced.
-1 Triston, we riot because we know how to party, not because of a win.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:11 am
i wouldn’t go that far. ohio state still has an outside shot of an at-large bid. but no, they have no shot at a bcs championship.
btw, i’m already hearing people scream (ala ohio state) about penn state potentially being in the national championship.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:13 am
@spongeworthy:
“they hadn’t beat osu in 30 years”
In Columbus. They’ve beaten the Buckeyes 6 times in Happy Valley since joining the Big 10.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:14 am
if they win out they will be in the rose bowl
October 27th, 2008 at 11:15 am
to qualify that, i think penn state has played in columbus 12 times in the past 30 years.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:16 am
depends if bama loses, which i expect them to do.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:17 am
whoops, sorry. i thought mmonast was referring to penn state.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:19 am
I have watched Alabama play three times this year and I still have no idea if they are that good. I really think this is a down year for the SEC as a whole. That being said, the only SEC team that I would give a good chance of beating them is Florida and they may not even with this weekend against Georgia.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Just looking at the still shot, it’s funny how many people have their camera phones out to record a “riot”.
Unrelatedly, Amy Hudson’s 7-year old nephew apparently found dead in a car. People suck.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Sorry, JENNIFER Hudson.
