It Wasn’t Pretty, but the Titans Remain Unbeaten
NFL October 28th. 2008, 11:00am
Did you smell the desperation on the Colts last night? Tied at 14 late in the third quarter, having probably played its best football of the season (considering the opponent) Tony Dungy made the odd decision to go for it on 4th and one from midfield. His starting RB was injured, and he was facing the top defense in the NFL. On the road.
Failed. The Titans kicked a FG and took the lead, and after another 4th down stop on the next drive, Tennessee added two more scores to improve to 7-0 with a 31-21 triumph over the 3-4 Colts.
Why not play a field position game against a team that is offensively-challenged at times? At any rate, here are the Colts remaining road games: Pittsburgh, San Diego, Cleveland and Jacksonville. The Browns have been more competitive the last three weeks, and the Jags always give the Colts fits. Let’s say the Colts lose those four.
The home games are considerably easier: Patriots, Texans, Titans (no need to mention the Bengals and Lions, right?). The Titans game is in the last week of the season, so maybe Tennessee rests some starters. New England QB Matt Cassel on the road is not a man to be feared. And even though the Texans always seem to play the Colts tight … we’re talking about the Texans. So maybe they go 5-0 at home.
So best-case scenario - assuming Indy can steal one in Cleveland or Jacksonville, is 9-7. Which is what we projected. There is where you talk about the squirrel finding a nut once …

I am eagerly waiting the TMQ column where he completely ignores these turn of events, because that evidence doesn’t back up his long held and oft-argued views.

If the Colts made that 4th and 1 and scored a TD, Dungy would be praised as a ballsy genius. I hate hindsight analysis of those types of calls.

Colts just don’t look right. Marvin is done, he can’t create separation any more. The OLine is having real issues compared to recent years. Even when guys are open and he has time, Peyton is off, who knows if its the knee or what, but he isn’t sharp. I don’t see them making the playoffs.

hate to say this but indianapolis is going to slice and dice the browns. the browns are good against decent qb’s and WR’s who are more athlete than football player, but against guys who run perfect routes and a QB like peyton…WORST MATCHUP POSSIBLE.
i pray for shitty weather and a huge game from shaun rogers.

If you are on your 40 or closer and you have a fourth down and 3 or less you should always go for it. He made the right call. The colts defense was playing great which made the decision even easier.

You just did!
“I am eagerly waiting the TMQ column where he completely ignores these turn of events, because that evidence doesn’t back up his long held and oft-argued views.” jibble
What does this have to do with hating Jews?

no shots at Kerry Collins today?

hold on to that last bit of hope. peyton struggles vs the 3-4.

browns looked like they were playing a 4 man front 2/3 of the time against the jags with wimbley having his hand on the ground. kinda interesting.
then again, they could’ve gone with one lineman (rogers) and still controlled the line of scrimmage.

As a side note, I’m very happy that prick Marvin Harrison is done, I despise that POS. I just hate his game, if the ball isn’t perfectly thrown, he makes no effort to catch it. As soon as the catch is made he drops to the ground immediately so he won’t get hit. No matter the situation he has that pissed/uninterested look on his face, seemingly doesn’t care whether they win or lose.

ha still the 3-4! technicalities, i understand what you’re saying spence. i just remember hearing that stupid point that its the 3-4 D that makes peyton struggle. if it were only that simple, everyone would have switched over.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Not sure how anyone could hate Marvin Harrison.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:16 am
He won’t ignore it, but he’ll just brush it off as “the football Gods work in mysterious ways” and he’ll probably say the Colts will be rewarded later, but of course never follow up to show he’s wrong.
/I actually think teams should go for it on 4th down more often, but in a Bill-Parcells-kind-of-way not a TMQ-kind-of-way.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Titans look pretty good. They remind me a lot of the Ravens Super Bowl team, superb D and a great running game shepherded by a journeymen QB. It would be nice for Kerry Collins who got his ass kicked in that Super Bowl against the Ravens.

i bet that guy he shot isn’t too fond of him.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Seriously, the less that TMQ idiot is mentioned, the better off everyone is.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Peyton missed on a lot of throws and the defense couldn’t get a stop in the 4th quarter.
Spence I think the Browns might actually beat the Colts.

Why we traded the best player on our team for a terrible DB I still have no idea… I hated the thought of trading that beast. People said “He only plays downs one and two) to that I said “He owns those downs and they can’t run anywhere on us”. Most of the people around here don’t know sports, they know how to assign blame (aimlessly) and find scape goats. (Lloyd Carr, Shaun Rogers, Mooch, Martz, Roy Williams, etc.) I really hate stupid people and stupid people with power is the worst thing ever.

I hate Harrision cause he is the “True professional” that will show up an opponent (celebration penalties in three consc. games against the pats) but the announcers just refuse to call him on it. That and he shot a guy.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:25 am
I generally hate anyone that the media tries to tell me is just a wonderful guy who everybody likes. Like with Dungy and Fisher last night. Fuck them.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:26 am
really? he did that? i don’t remember that at all, but then again, i probably was doing a bong rip celebrating the pats’ failure.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Mags…i hear you man. bodden was WAY overrated, dude was toast at least once per game.
rogers is a treat to watch even if his stamina is nothing to write home about.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:29 am
I remember it, especially a monday nighter a couple years ago he spiked a ball in the face of two defenders while they were up a couple scores. I love Reggie Wayne, but cant stand Harrision.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Harrison spiked a ball in front of Ellis Hobbs. what a bad guy
October 28th, 2008 at 11:31 am
There is obviously still something wrong with Peyton’s knee and the the Colts D w/o Bob Sanders is a joke. They made Collins look really good last night.
Change of topic. When is the NFL going to drop the hammer on all those that failed the drug tests?
October 28th, 2008 at 11:34 am

I kinda feel the same way, and I don’t know why. It seems the more fake, unabashed media outpouring of love someone gets, (see: Favre, Brett and Obama, Barack), I immediately start to dislike the person. I guess it’s that they are never as good as we are told they are, and when anything remotely negative is said about the person, the overflow of excuses and/or denial from the people giving the love begins to wear on me.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

I’ve always hated the “look how he plays hurt, he missed practice again this week, what a warrior” crap some people get. And I’m looking directly at you Iverson and Steve McNair.

How ’bout DWade getting taken off the court in a wheelchair with a dislocated shoulder, then Candace Parker doing the same thing, not missing any time, winning the National Championship, and being the best thing in the WNBA.
Do you think Wade’s boyz haven’t busted on him a little about that? He made a “girl” look tougher than him.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:52 am
i hear you man. bodden was WAY overrated
he was the best DB on the worst football team. some things never change…
October 28th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Big boy on the big boy stage for my Titans.
Yes, Steve McNair should have done more to make sure his sternum didn’t get cracked or that a half pound of fluid didn’t build up in his knee.

I think he was referring to the other 183 injuries McNair suffered in his glorious career.
Guy was on the injury list more than Brady was-lol
