Awesome Night for TV (Sports and Otherwise)
Baseball, NBA, Pop Culture, Television October 28th. 2008, 6:00pm
1. At 8′clock we highly recommend the Charlie Brown Halloween special. The music’s great.
2. The World Series continuation of Game 5, weather permitting.
3. The new 90210, if that’s your bag. It’s sad, but they’re calling her the new Brenda. Eh.
4. On HBO at 8 is Gladiator; at 9 is We Are Marshall, in case you want to drool over Kate Mara.
5. Cleveland at Boston on TNT at 8. Let’s make a poster!
6. The highlight of the night: Blazers at Lakers, 10:30. Join us in the comments, for the debut of Mr. Oden, won’t you?

Highlight is Lakeshow and Oden.
Kate Mara is a smokeshow and I don’t know why she isn’t more famous, but her hotness is more prevalent in Shooter.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
no, no, no, double no (one’s wildly overrated, the other’s maudlin tripe), I’ll pop in on LeBron, and I’ll check out Mr. Oden once “The Shield” is over.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
You’re website is down just like Bob Sanders himself! boo-yah!
October 28th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
(Golf clap.)
October 28th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
That 90210 chick was smokin hot on Nip Tuck
October 28th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Greg Oden is the ONLY reason I would watch an NBA game.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Hooray! The Lakers are on TNT for opening night tonight and they’re also on ESPN’s first broadcast tomorrow night.
I missed the NBA big time, but I don’t miss 71 nationally-televised Lakers games at the expense of everyone else.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
fetch- i second that motion. Don’t know what happened to her, but she was much hotter as the slutty teen going after the doctor.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
thank god, someone else who agrees that gladiator was overrated…
i got into an epic argument with a friend over braveheart vs. gladiator…i can’t believe i wasted my time.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
yeah, have to admit i kinda want to see oden
October 28th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
braveheart was the better flick. but gladiator was still a good film.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
i got into an epic argument with a friend over braveheart vs. gladiator
Please post this.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
So the guy on Oden’s left is what, seven-foot-eight?
October 28th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
House at 8
October 28th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
While mostly flat, Ohio does have stairs, ladders, chairs, stools, ottomans, tables, and other things that people are able to stand on in order to seem taller. These objects also assist them in reaching things that they could not if flat footed on the surface of the earth.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Aren’t Braveheart and Gladiator essentially the same film? Wronged man has beloved killed by brutal ruling family, spends rest of the film trying to outwit and outmanuever said ruling family by pooling together a group of ragtag components. Both end up gaining vengeance (to a certain degree) before succumbing in the film’s closing moments.
Both are heavy on the violence, contain superbly shot action, poor dialogue, weak female characters, and A-list stars in performances that were solid yet overvalued for some reason even though their previous work for a better director (Gibson in Weir’s Gallipoli, Crowe’s in Mann’s The Insider) was far superior. Certainly, I’m reading far too much into this, but I just never really understood all the acclaim for these two.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Thanks for the spoiler alert.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Please tell me you weren’t on the side of Braveheart. Sure, Gladiator is overrated, but Braveheart is downright awful.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Braveheart and “the Patriot” are more analogous. Gladiator pens one person against the Roman Empire.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Patriot pens one person against the British Empire.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

“300″ is a homo-erotic CGI spectacular.
/still liked it
//does that make me gay?
October 28th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
GO MAGIC!!!
Fuck the Lakers and the fact that I am never going to any other out of market team so that everyone else can watch the fucking Lakers. Same goes for Queen Leglobal Byotch and his sadass Caveliers.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Oh awesome, Time Inc. is laying off 600 people within the next two weeks. This should be tons of fun.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
I actually really liked the Patriot. Of course this was before we found out Mel Gibson was a psychopath. But I’m a sucker for all things Revolution.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Gladiator > Braveheart
/Only time I saw my brother n law cry was after Braveheart… that made me fucking sick and I was only 12.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Gladiator has the most memorable quote, so it wins.
And now,
/rant
WTF is up with this videogame holiday season? There’s literally 20-30 titles that are not only worth the asking price, but are top of the line, A level titles. I could drop 1k easily, but even if I had the cash, I wouldn’t have enough time in the year to even finish half of the games I want right now. Basically…why the fuck can’t they space out the releases throughout the year?
/rant off
October 28th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
I’m a Braveheart guy. It’s probably mostly because my fiance was born in Scotland, so I have to like it. But I also think that because it was made before Gladiator, it should be more appreciated.
Plus, who doesn’t love thick Scottish accents?
October 28th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Nah, we voted down ottomans when we wouldn’t let the gays marry. Ottoman just sounds homo.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Tallguy – Mortal Combat is gonna be sick as fuck, so is Fallout 3, those guys made Oblivion and that is the single best game ever. Zelda and Link can suck it.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
After Saiger interviews Pollard, you hear him say “Thanks Craig. Nice Tie”. YES

October 28th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
this charlie brown theme song is so catchy. will you mock me if i admit to having it on my ipod? like i care.
forgot to tivo 90210, so i’ll just have to catch it tomorrow.
let’s go cavs! i made an action bet, and it was a silly parlay: Bucks +6, Celtics and Lakers to win.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
is this a bonus? youre not elected charlie brown? not familiar with it!
October 28th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
rick, I’ve already chosen…playing littlebigplanet, getting valkrie chronicles next week and picking up re-release of chrono trigger.

October 28th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Rick- Ocarina of Time is the best game ever.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
get the fuck outta here. The game where I have to play a flute to get new levels?
Since TBL has a 360 I will mail him a copy of Oblivion. Any person that doesnt love that game doesnt love America
(Will include bonus disks)
October 28th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
lost in hoops tonight, but i had a hot hand. we were playing an unbeaten team, and led for most of the first half. they got hot, we got cold, and they won by 9.
i hit my first three jumpers in the first half, and a group of high school kids who were watching seemed impressed. as i released the third one, i heard a kid say, ‘buckets.’
to bad that i went cold after that, missing at least 5 shots, and two free throws. those hurt. i got hot late, hitting 4 more shots, but it was too late. i think i finished with 17 and we lost like 70-60 or something.
the sad part was some dude who was all talking shit in the first half might have broken his ankle. i heard a pop, he went down, and didn’t return. he was a punk.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
I’m not a huge fan of Oblivion. The level-up system is too complicated and drags on the game. I really liked it for the first few hours, but it’s not a classic in my book.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Are these all on the 360? I don’t know shit about games, but I do love me some Olivia Munn.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Watching W. online. Damn, Josh Brolin is good in this.
October 28th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
BSanders, where can i watch it?

It’s not great quality, but it’s not like it’s a special-effects laden summer movie or anything. It’s just okay so far, but pretty funny. Got the game on mute in the background so I’ve missed some of it.
October 28th, 2008 at 9:02 pm

i guess everything in fashion is cyclical.
October 28th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
nice oop to LBJ
damn that was fierce
October 28th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
C’s will likely come back and win this one. Cavs should be up 15-20 in the first half, but they had a ridiculous number of turnovers that gave Boston easy points. The C’s won’t miss that many shots in the 2nd half and will likely come back and win.
Of course, LBJ shot terribly in the 1st half, so he might start to take over in the 3rd…
October 28th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Is it just me or does Ben Wallace look slimmer. Much more active Varaejo, too. On paper, Cleveland might have the 2nd best bench in the East.
October 28th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
charles during the bulls/bucks highlights: “larry kristowiak is rolling over in his grave.”
lol
October 28th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
I hate Oblivion, I found it tedious and boring
/Obama
//Actually me, that game sucked
October 28th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
TBL –
You are right about both. Varejao will be much better since he didn’t miss all of preseason, October, and November like last year. Wallace does look like he’s shed about 20. I think I read that in the Cleveland PD earlier this month, but I’m too lazy to find it now.
October 28th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
How the Grinch Stole Christmas > Braveheart
October 28th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
it’s taken me 32 minutes of the 1st NBA to really appreciate the uneven NBA officiating.
Case in point? Cavs shoot 22 FT’s in the 1st half. The Celts now have 0 team fouls 9 minutes into the 2nd half.
October 28th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
*1st NBA game of the year… Got interrupted by the Mrs and forgot where I left off!
October 28th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Boy, Paul Pierece has really raised his game, huh? He pretty much did want he wanted int he finals (against Kobe?) and he’s pretty much killing LeBron, again (after beating up on him in the playoffs).
I’d say on a season, Pierce went from a very good player to a guy who is probably going to end up in the HOF. i forgot how good the guy was. he’s probably going to end up No. 2 on the celtics all-time scoring list.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
and reggie miller just said, ‘i always thought he was going to to the Hall – now he’s going in on the first ballot.’
October 28th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Uh oh Shane, Vic’s gonna whoop that ass…
October 28th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
These ADIDAS commercials are great.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
does Tony Allen take the place of James posey? can he be “that guy?” Don know if he shoots the 3 well enough, doesnt have the clutch experience … but he is more athletic and loves to attack the rim
October 28th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
On most nights, the last 2 plays are charges. He puts his head down and runs over anything that’s in his way.
Allen also can’t play a lick of defense. That’s where Posey is a difference maker. Of course, the whole Posey thing is completely overdone. The question is whether the Big 3 can stay healthy. Since Ray Ray is already a step slower, that will be the big question.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
michael vs. dwight about to fight at the dojo!
so pumped.
this was the first episode i ever saw
October 28th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
“I’d say on a season, Pierce went from a very good player to a guy who is probably going to end up in the HOF.”
Smoking Paul Pierce is all right. Just imagine how NBA life would be had one of the nine stab wounds he had hit something vital? It’d be a completely different world. Thank God for leather jackets.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
is it just me or is cleveland essentially the same team as last year?
October 28th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
@kc… Agreed. Pierce was a nice player, but no one that would have sniffed the HOF. All if took was another solid year and a great playoffs to get mentioned to go to the HOF.
He was noted as a very selfish player before last year. He did gel with Allen and Garnett much better than I ever thought he would have…
October 28th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
You’d be surprised how quickly you can bounce back from serious wounds when they don’t hit anything vital. I got shot three times a few years back and was back to close to normal within six weeks. Took a few months to get all the range of motion back in my leg, but the body’s a pretty amazing thing if all the important shit remains intact.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Jaw slacked… speechless…
October 28th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Pardon me, but what the fuck?
October 28th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Im waiting for one of those Mascots to get fucked up.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Guess that was kinda vague. Got held up with some friends in STL, took one in the shoulder and one in each leg. Got a nasty staph infection in the shoulder and lost a dime-sized part of my femur, but pretty lucky all the way around. Like I said, the body’s an amazing thing.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
…..the fuck? Held up? You must roll a little deeper than I do…..
October 28th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
You must be talking about East Stl
October 28th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Ha. I wish. Was walking to a friend’s place and some dudes pulled guns on us, took our wallets and phones and then shot at us as they drove away. Two guys next to me didn’t have a scratch afterwards. But I can’t say I was unlucky exactly.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
“You’d be surprised how quickly you can bounce back from serious wounds when they don’t hit anything vital. I got shot three times a few years back and was back to close to normal within six weeks. What the hell the Fuck? Talk about a bomb. That isn’t something you drop in normal conversation, brother. You wear fucking T-shirts with that printed on them. Your business card says, “I got shot three times. No biggie.” You always wear shorts to show off the battle wounds.
And The Beard beat me to it. You were in East St. Louis at the strip club conclave. We traveled from KC there for a bachelor party. Interstfucking. Debauchery. East St. Louis was something I only knew of from Family Vacation with Chevy. Not anymore.

“what does it say under martial arts training?”
“oh. I’m going to have to supplement that. What is your fax?”
“what do you mean, of course martial arts training is relevant.”
October 28th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
bsanders, is that for real? You got shot? do you pack heat?
October 28th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Yes, TBL, I did get shot. I was in college, drunk and walking around in a part of town I shouldn’t have with some friends. Wrong place, wrong time. Never fired a gun in my life, don’t plan on doing it anytime soon.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Woo hoo, Bulls are going to be undefeated….at least for one night.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:54 pm

seriously though crazy story bsanders
October 28th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
damn barry. scary stuff. i had always been against guns but recently changed my take on them. i dont have my carry permit yet, and i hope to never have to use it. i feel like when the gun makes an appearance, there are going to be problems. glad to hear you recoverd, though.
man, you guys are crazy if you dont think oden is a beast. he’s a GIANT. he makes Bynum look tiny. offensive skills are still raw, obvs
October 28th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
his beard is killing his wind resistance getting up and down the floor
October 28th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
oden limping around. let’s just hope it is a knee bump
October 28th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Luol Deng on bitches. Looks like Heinrick is trying to keep his job.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Never fired a gun in my life, don’t plan on doing it anytime soon.
I feel the same way, although three friends of mine just bought guns, and I live in a real nice suburb in Fort Lauderdale! It’s getting crazy out there w/ breakins & stuff down here (ask Sean Taylor, unfortunately). I went to the pet store today and they had just posted a lost & found about some lady who walked in, saw someone’s pet cockapoo, grabbed their leash out of the owner’s hand and ran out the door with the dog.
People are WHACKED!
October 28th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Lakers are killin it so far.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
The Bucks are terrible, but D Rose is looking damn good so far.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
2 fouls on oden midway through the first, and he’s on the bench. tough call against him (moving screen)
October 28th, 2008 at 11:00 pm

October 28th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
What the hell is Steve Blake shooting the ball for?
October 28th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Sit down when you’re on the bench, dumbass. Also, your warmups should not be the same color as your uniforms.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
was lamar odom smoking dope or something?
October 28th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
did the bulls REALLY start with gordon and hinrich on the bench?
October 28th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
i think sasha was standing because that Bynum near-oop was almost really badass. gosh i hope oden returns soon. i think he needs to trim that beard – just looks awful.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
TBL – Gordon plays better coming off the bench and Hinrich’s the odd man out in the guard rotation right now.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
first and obvious blazer observation: Roy’s going to need some help offensively. im eager to see what Fernandez can do.

October 28th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
I think the TNT cast is going to start stalking Fernandez
October 28th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
two in a row for Rudy …
October 28th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
He looks just like Antonio Banderas!
Ricky Rubio name drops thus far: 1.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
i like his aggressiveness. they’ll need that. i mean, they’ll need his shots more than Channing Frye jacking from 20 feet out. What was that?
October 28th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Damn, I think Cheryl Miller has him by an inch or so.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
And Lamar STILL can’t finish!
October 28th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
blazers getting run out of the building early. they’ll be fine, but on day 1, they’re no match for the lakers.

These NBA Live commercials are about 90 seconds too long.

October 28th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
well, the lakers are in mid-season form already, and Kobe’s hardly shooting/scoring. they just come in waves.
arizona looks like he’ll be the defender who tries to lock up Pierece or Lebron. man, this team is loaded.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
49-27? my gosh the blazers offense is stagnant. get Roy and Rudy on the floor at the same time and unleash them, nate.
nothing like a 30-point loss on opening night to temper expectations.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
If only the Lakers can play this kind of D for 82 games. If only…
October 28th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
I totally agree, figured this would happen with a fired up and angry LA team. Still hoping for a .500 season personally.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
LA is showing Portland how to play ball in the league. I can’t wait to see how the Blazers play in January…they have so much young talent.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
the dunk would have cut it to 13 … but this one isn’t even about winning for Portland. would be nice for them to build confidence, get it close, and have oden NOT foul out and finish with 10/10.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
I’d like to see Roy stop blowing layups and dribbling into Derek Fisher’s feet.
October 28th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
keep dreaming. want to see them against the hornets and spurs and rockets, teams that are ready-made
October 28th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Is it just me, or are the five hour energy commercials pretty amateur for having so many high-profile athletes featured in them?
October 28th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
“Veronica is 28, from Washington, single with no children. She is a very talkative girl, and also gets very emotional about certain subjects (and when having sex). A very entertaining girl, she was all over the place the entire shoot…..it made me smile. Veronica has a very pretty face, with thick auburn hair, and the cutest freckles.”
“The scene was relatively straightforward, it included some lead in about a maid, 10-12 minutes of softcore fucking, hardcore still photos, and of course the 30 minutes of hardcore fucking as well. The scene flowed well, and we didn’t cut during the hardcore scene until the last position. And yes, I fucked her in reverse cowgirl until I popped. I can hold anyone up, trust me.”
This Christian Sings the Blues dude cracks me up.
October 29th, 2008 at 12:21 am
Well, looks like Oden will avoid fouling out…just not sure the xrays on the foot is a step up from that.
October 29th, 2008 at 12:28 am
The Lakers defense was an embarrassment against the Celts last year, but Kobe was dominant enough against the Spurs and the Jazz, that their defense didn’t need to be an issue. I don’t know if anyone can play as well as Kobe did in the playoffs to get his team to the finals, even Kobe. So yeah, they’ll need to play defense.
October 29th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Kobe can still dunk?
October 29th, 2008 at 1:59 am

for the debut of Mr. Oden, won’t you?
How long did that debut last? TBL, let me know when you want to root for Dwight Howard
