Portland is Panicking About “Glass” Oden
NBA October 29th. 2008, 10:45am
Inhale. Hold it … hold it … exhale. Greg Oden will be OK. Yes, last night’s season-opening injury is terribly depressing. How did x-rays on his foot go from “negative” to “inconclusive?” This we do not know. NBA blogger reaction to his debut:
People are already beginning to jump off bridges just as they did with the Brandon Roy surgery this summer. I don’t know what to say other than I can’t go there anymore because it’s just too crazy and exhausting. It’s probably a minor deal. If it’s not a minor deal the worst case scenario is probably that Greg is out another few weeks, misses the devastating early part of the schedule, and returns when things get easier for us anyway. (Blazer’s Edge)
He bricked a couple of point-blank hook shots in the first half and generally handled the ball with all the grace and fluidity of Kwame Brown, if Kwame was trying to play in oven mitts. (Dime Mag)
After a wrist injury in college, the knee surgery, a sprained ankle in the pre-season and now this – is it safe to say that Oden is injury prone or am I jumping the gun here? (NBA Noise)
Although Oden may just be experiencing a lot of bad luck, it might be time to wonder if he’s ever going to withstand the rigors of the NBA season. He’s yet to play three healthy minutes in the NBA. It seems like he’s getting hurt almost constantly. (Steamy Sports)

How does one person love so many teams? Because the Knick and Nets suck you just switch coasts? Absurd.

@cool_rick: I thought the same thing initially, but that quote isn’t from TBL, but the Blazer’s Edge blog.

You are right Bear.

At least his body can recover quickly from injuries because he’s so young… oh wait, nevermind.

has anyone considered the possibility of oden having osteoporosis?
October 29th, 2008 at 11:02 am
all senior citizens should have life alert
/last old man joke, i promise
October 29th, 2008 at 11:04 am
has anyone considered the possibility of oden actually being a caveman and not just looking like one?
October 29th, 2008 at 11:04 am

Based on 13 minutes in one NBA game it should now be clear to all that Oden is a fraud.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:13 am
He looked awful running up and down the court making Pau look like usain bolt.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Geezus, we’re condemning Oden based on one game that he got injured? He’s going to dominate the game defensively for years to come (if healthy).
So everyone needs to slow their respective rolls.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:18 am
If he keeps on this pace those Oden jerseys are going to be a point of comedy when we see them in 15 years.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Oden looked like a even more clumsy version of Shawn Bradley

not hating, just making fun of.

Yeah, Sally Field is personally administering his Boniva pills

October 29th, 2008 at 11:25 am

oh…boniva. my bad.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Look at Z, guys. He was as injury prone as anyone. Now he’s as good as Bynum!

*sfw (I think???)

BTW, I was not at all enamored with Bynum last night (although did provide a presence in the paint last night). So far after one game Z>AB. Z needed more touches last night.

@jpq: you’re a sick fuck mac.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Who does the TBL hoops fan think is going to be the most entertaining team to watch as a casual fan? Since the Knicks and Nets will be unwatchable.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:34 am
I’m just glad we’re finally back to talking about a new sport now that baseball is over.

And I’m keeping track this year of how many times TBL ommits Kobe’s name from a Laker Ballin capsule. So far he’s one-for-one. He did this often last season, evidence of systemic bias? You be the judge.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Didn’t Oden have a super fast growth spurt in high school that pushed him up to the 7ft mark? I thought I remember reading he was 5′10 his sophomore year and all of sudden he’s 6′10 the next. This would explain why he’s so injury prone right now.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:46 am
sg, did you stay at Holiday Inn Express last night?
October 29th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Bill Walton > Sam Bowie > Greg Oden >Makblunt
As for the x-ray, It came back negative on my knee before, yet the MRI siad I had a torn ACL. Last wekk, it was Negative on my right shoulder, but the fucking MRI says I have a tear in my rotator cuff. X-rays suck unless the bone is broken or dislocated.
Oden missed his first season(knee), first preseason game back(ankle), and now hurt in his first Reg. season game(same ankle). I would be worried if I was Portland fans, too. The other parts of the team are nice, but he’s the reason everyone(TBL) was talking about a dynasty in the making…

@ Cursed I was hoping I wasn’t the only one that noticed.
