ESPN Yanks Simmons NFL Picks Column …
Bill Simmons, ESPN November 1st. 2008, 6:06pm
The more and more time passes, the more it seems Bill Simmons grows tired of the WorldWide Leader. From the Sports Guy Blog:
Quick update: I received a slew of e-mails yesterday wondering what happened to my Friday NFL column and blaming me for being lazy and all the usual crap. Please know that I handed in that column as scheduled - on Thursday night, on time, like I always do — and on Friday afternoon, ESPN.com decided not to run the column. These are the facts.
Not sure what the reasoning is, but that does seem a bit odd. As far as the eye can tell, Simmons has not been grounded by the Ombudswoman. Unrelated: When one Googles Bill Simmons via the Images carrier, lots of Dane Cook pictures appear, which surely makes Simmons happy.

But they ARE on espn’s site. I saw them last night and I see them today. It’s just not one of his columns discussing why he chose who he chose, only his picks.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Maybe if he didn’t write 15,000 word columns his editors could get through it
November 1st, 2008 at 6:23 pm
Thanks for the update ketchup
/exactly what the post says
November 1st, 2008 at 6:31 pm
No diesel.
The post says that NOTHING got posted, no column, no picks, NOTHING. Even if you click on the link going to the sportsguy’s blog, all it is is the picks. Nothing is different between his blog and espn’s site. I don’t understand what bill is upset about.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Simmons’ picks, if not his column, went up on the .com.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:36 pm
So how far does Georgia drop and how high does Florida rise? I think Florida is definitely a better team at the moment than Oklahoma, but Oklahoma lost to the currently ranked no. 1 team at a neutral site and Florida lost to a middle-of-the-pack SEC team.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Where does it say that NOTHING got posted? You are talking yourself in circles.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Wanny, I’ll take back every bad thing I’ve said about you if you just beat Notre Dame.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Wow….ND’s kicker just stuck a killer. This fucker might never end, and I don’t care, what with the cocktail party turning into simply cock in ass.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:45 pm
And down goes Notre Dame. This calls for a celebration!
November 1st, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Down goes Florida State.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:47 pm
You’re right diesel, Bill Simmons was so upset that ONLY his picks got posted on espn.com that he went over to his own blog and REposted the exact same thing (ONLY the picks.)
November 1st, 2008 at 6:52 pm
He only posts old Boston Sports Guy articles on his blog, he can’t take traffic from ESPN by posting current stuff.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Florida absolutely working UGA, just like I thought. UGA never had any business being preseason #1. I knew that it was all because of destroying an overmatched Hawaii team. Stafford sucked ass again, just as I expected. Dude’s a hack.
November 1st, 2008 at 6:55 pm
He posted the picks on his blog so that they exist in perpetuity. Once they are deleted from his ESPN “homepage”, they are non existent except for the freaks who save his screenprints.
/Yup, those are his readers…
November 1st, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Honestly, either way, nobody gives a shit.
Let’s go Red Raiders, put a wrench in this bitch!
November 1st, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Florida absolutely working UGA, just like I thought</strong.. UGA never had any business being preseason #1. I knew that it was all because of destroying an overmatched Hawaii team. Stafford sucked ass again, just as I expected.
The oracle has spoken.
November 1st, 2008 at 7:00 pm
God damn close tag!
November 1st, 2008 at 7:06 pm
I don’t know. I’d be pretty pissed if TBL spiked one of my soccer posts.
November 1st, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Notre Dame deserved to lose after the moron captain tried to defer after winning the OT coin toss.
November 1st, 2008 at 7:10 pm
You mean TBL hasn’t before.
/Majority of TBL commenters
November 1st, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Yes, tyduffy, but TBL uses his hands when he spikes
November 1st, 2008 at 7:22 pm

November 1st, 2008 at 8:28 pm
I’m not hating on Ty. I’m just pointing out what most of the people in here on weekdays would say.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:29 pm
how the heck did texas tech get a safety? totally missed that. and most of the GA bloodbath. left for dinner when it was 28-3
November 1st, 2008 at 8:31 pm
This is my first time seeing Harrell play, and he looks amazing so far.
This has the makings of a great game.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Tech downed a punt on the 1.5 yard line, then the nose tackle nailed the rb on the first down play.
The real question, how bad is Nebraska to be down 28-0 with 9 minutes left in the first quarter?
November 1st, 2008 at 8:33 pm
I really hope Simmons leaves. His funniest stuff is when he makes fun of announcers, so it’d be great to just let him have free reign to rip on anybody.
Aside: anybody know who Mustberger put money on yet?
November 1st, 2008 at 8:35 pm
jesus, time warner just cut out on me.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Those people who think Crabtree can’t play in the NFL are nuts. That guy’s a stud.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:35 pm
holy shit OKL is up 28-0 just 7 mins into the game? damn. if they only had a defense …
November 1st, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Graham Harrell is absolutely sick. Kliff Kingsbury and Sonny Cumbie he is not. He should be a 2nd rounder-ish I think.
Just as importantly, I am watching more future NHL stardom than you can shake a stick at right now.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:36 pm
oh, and i foolishly bet not only on GA, but also on Texas -3.5.
i wonder if this would be the greatest thing ever to happen in Lubbock if TT wins.
denied on 3rd and one!
oh, wait, favorabl spot ..
November 1st, 2008 at 8:37 pm
no! inches short. punting …
November 1st, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Speak for yourself. I shake a mean stick.
No homo.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:37 pm
or not!
November 1st, 2008 at 8:38 pm
i doubt he actually got it, but it looks like they’re giving it to him
November 1st, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Looked like a really good spot to me.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:39 pm
T. Tech is owning the line of scrimmage so far here.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:39 pm
i think Brent is on Texas. just a guess based on the 4th down reaction and a few other tiny things. he’ll show his hand by halftime.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:40 pm
river that made no sense to me, but that’s fine. It could be cause I think I’m still drink from last night. And bsanders, who says Crabtree can’t play in the NFL, I dont think I’ve ever heard that one.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:41 pm
shipley drops a TD! that’s three straight drops in a row, and McCoy got DRILLED
November 1st, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Fetch
- A lot of “pundits” have questioned his top-end speed.
P.S.
Did they just break McCoy’s nose?
November 1st, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Ol Brent is definitely on Texas…the inflection of his voice when Shipley dropped the TD was a dead giveaway.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Twss
November 1st, 2008 at 8:43 pm
“They’re not executing, folks.”
Definitely on Texas.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I’ve never watched Dancing with the Stars - and have no desire to, really - but if Warren Sapp is really throwing other contestants across the room, I might have to check it out.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Holy shit Graham Harrell throws a great ball. Off his back foot and under pressure that was just perfect.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
TT is good.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
i would say i can’t believe they’re calling that garbage on 3rd and 8 … but that’s probably how these guys operate
November 1st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Mike Leach’s balls > Someone afflicted with elephantitus
November 1st, 2008 at 8:48 pm
T. Tech’s trainers have their work cut out for them tonight making sure Crabtree’s ankle stays playable.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:48 pm
John Merrick?
November 1st, 2008 at 8:49 pm
And OU is up 35-0 and it’s not even the end of the first quarter.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:50 pm
admittedly, i have watched very little of TT this year, but i find myself laughing because they’re passing on every down. the times they have gone on the ground have been good calls, though.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Oh No Romo
- I liked his movie.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:52 pm
USC was favored by 45.5. just went up 49-0.
as for Texas, i wouldn’t be worried if i were a longhorns fans, esp considering the history between these two teams the last couple years.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Speaking of calling a run at just the right time.
November 1st, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Don’t kick it to the cracka!
November 1st, 2008 at 8:59 pm
wtf was that colt
November 1st, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Carrie Underwood. Yummy.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Brent is for Texas and the over, it sounds like.
Does anyone else absolutely hate these new Bud Light commercials? Fake Dave Chappelle? “Drinkability”?? Yes, its about time a beer company took advantage of beer’s inherent liquid state. All those other non-drinkable beers are in trouble.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:05 pm
s1r - is that NOT chappelle? i have seen that one a few times and it sure as hell looks like Dave C
November 1st, 2008 at 9:05 pm
I’m late to this party. I was off burning things and watching KU destroy KSU. That’s going to be a hefty payout for Ron Prince who just signed a new contract. Wow. That team is a mess.
Anyhow, I’ve been posting this for a few months… Simmons is trying to get fired. He’s acting like all the NBA players that sign a big contract and then tank because they are fat and happy and are pissed off that the team signed a big free agent (Reilly). The only hitch is that ESPN owns all of Simmons’ columns and if he left/got fired, he wouldn’t be able to throw together a columns book because ESPN owns all of them.
More to the point. Go Tech! Texas looks scared, but Tech hasn’t put up near enough points. Going to be a game.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Brent is tutoring Kirk on Nascar. Aren’t injury timeouts lovely?
November 1st, 2008 at 9:07 pm
talk about moving the ball at will … damn
November 1st, 2008 at 9:07 pm
If T. Tech puts 7 more on the board here THEN does Texas start to worry?
November 1st, 2008 at 9:08 pm
are you kidding me??????
November 1st, 2008 at 9:08 pm
It’s a response to the Miller “more taste” ads. Basically, they’re making the point that more taste does not make a better beer if said taste is the taste of ass.
And the red head is oddly attractive…I can’t explain it, but I would do nasty things to her.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:08 pm
U got to be fucking kidding me. That was what you call buying time.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:10 pm
19-0!
November 1st, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Yes sir. Texas better circle the wagons.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Harrell For Heisman!
November 1st, 2008 at 9:11 pm
That is NOT Dave Chappelle. It’s a lookalike/actalike.
Harrell’s ability to keep the play alive while not recklessly scrambling is impressive. Match that with his NFL arm and he will be starting for somebody on Sundays next year.
Poor Brent sounds like he found out his dog is terminally ill.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:11 pm
I’d make brooke shields pregnant to put german engineering in my driveway.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:11 pm
i’d that if Texas doesn’t make shit happen on its next drive, trouble has arrived. 19-0 is overcome-able.
gotta figure the Red Raiders are going to turn the ball over plenty.
so far, im hella impressed in Harrell. people outside lubbock loving this most: Florida. USC, too.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:14 pm
lol on brent’s dog.
and good point on Simmons. he probably wants them to cut him loose and pay out the remainder of his contract.
oklahoma is on pace for 100. 80+ would not surprise me
November 1st, 2008 at 9:14 pm
in defense of Colt - that’s at least 4 drops.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:15 pm
I don’t see Tech turning the ball over that much if Harrell keeps a.) getting that kind of protection and b.) giving himself extra time when no one’s open.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I love the roll out line drive punt.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Just talked to my friend from Austin to rub this in early and often. Said she has been crying ever since that last td. I love to see peoples crazy fanatical obsessions go down the tube… Time to add on. Texas Tech and Mu for the big 12 championship!!!
November 1st, 2008 at 9:20 pm
oh no
texas tech with a turnover … crabtree fumble
November 1st, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Would so nail Brooke Shields. Nice to have her back in my life again.
Brent comes to life on a Red Raiders turnover. I am more entertained by this than the game itself.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Ugh…please don’t tell me that gives Texas new life.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Is it time to start thinking that Tech’s defense might be better than their offense?
November 1st, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Wow, I’ve watched a few T. Tech games this year and have yet to see them play with this kind of speed on defense.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:23 pm
that’s a HUGE hold by the TT defense. they’re quick.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:30 pm
quick word on Florida-GA…just reading about it now, and i wonder if anyone will be laughing about Tebow’s heisman chances monday. 3 rush TDs, 2 pass TDs and an ass-whipping of Georgia.
who gets the ball first in the second half in Texas-TT?
November 1st, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Texas gets the ball after the half
November 1st, 2008 at 9:31 pm
This is a straight-up ass kicking on both sides of the ball. I wouldn’t get ball on the Tebow train too quickly. If things keep going the way they have tonight, Harrell’s your guy.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:34 pm
is this a good spot for a fake? or too risky?
November 1st, 2008 at 9:35 pm
if 22-3 holds up to halftime … i’d say if UT doesn’t score to open the second half, it’s over.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:35 pm
I’m laughing
November 1st, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Outgained by 300 yards in the first half. Now that’s a paddling.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:38 pm
“in defense of Colt - that’s at least 4 drops.”
One of which would have been a touchdown early in the game. Nice to see Texas just doubled their total yardage on a QB scramble.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:39 pm
5
November 1st, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Haha, Brent is killing me. They call hands to the face and his reaction is “oh my gosh.”
November 1st, 2008 at 9:40 pm
“ol my gosh”
could musberger be any worse?
November 1st, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Texas Tech O-line is great. It’s making Harrell a little overrated. But since Leach abhors ball control offense, this game is not over.
“oh my goodness” Mustburger on Texas penalty.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:41 pm
guess we all heard it…
November 1st, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Ref: “Personal foul… offense..”
Brent, very irritated: “Oh my goodness“
November 1st, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Can’t wait for Leach’s comments at halftime.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:42 pm
what a catch! holy shit
HUGE
November 1st, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Could it be? Saban takes a #1 Bama into Baton Rouge next Saturday. I didn’t think that game could become any more intense.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:43 pm
anybody see any sarah palin costumes last night?
November 1st, 2008 at 9:44 pm
ugh, Colt cannot make that mistake after that play. If they can get three here and seven to start the half, they are back in it.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Texas goes into the half down 16 and has to feel like they robbed somebody.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:44 pm
I think your #1 team is playing in this game. I still like OU a lot too.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:45 pm
You tell him Quan: “He was CLEARLY out of bounds!”
November 1st, 2008 at 9:45 pm
actually, this FG is clutch … makes it 16, and a two-score game
November 1st, 2008 at 9:45 pm
saw a couple TBL, but the lego man was probably the best costume i saw, really well done.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:46 pm
This game is not over. Going to be a hell of a second half. I seriously doubt Tech’s D can keep up the pressure.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:47 pm
I can’t see Tech ending up ahead of Alabama or Penn State. Tech or Oklahoma should be #3.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:50 pm
You know if LSU beats a number 1 Alabama team next week, That would make my year. The Saints and the Tigers can lose every game after that and I’ll still be happy.
/Saban hater
November 1st, 2008 at 9:50 pm
If Tech wins and isn’t ahead of Penn State, something is wrong with this country’s football poll voters.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:50 pm
not sure if anyone was watching holtz talk about the ND loss, but he’s his usual bumbling self and the wife is doing something in the room and hears him and goes, “is this guy an idiot or what?”
and now, ill mention teh hitler thing to her …
November 1st, 2008 at 9:51 pm
tech i believe still has to beat Oklahoma and play OK State
November 1st, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Oregon seems to have a different uniform each week.
November 1st, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Nope, but my friend went as Joe the Plumber.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Has Smash got in the game for the Red Raiders yet?
November 1st, 2008 at 10:07 pm
“tech i believe still has to beat Oklahoma and play OK State”
Yes. If they get through that mess, crown them. I’m afraid that isn’t going to happen. Too much competition in the Big 12 South. The great teams will cancel each other out.
/SEC’d.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:08 pm
huge 3rd down conversion to open the second half
November 1st, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Nevermind, wrong Big 12 Texas school. Meant A&M.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Texas’ O-line all dipped into Bevo’s sedative cocktail before the game. Those guys are playing so fucking awful it makes me want to punch them in the face.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Sweet Jesus, Tech’s d-line is just destroying UT up front.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Oooooh, Whitlock just kissed McCoy…and not in a fun way.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Colt just got bent in two
November 1st, 2008 at 10:11 pm
i can’t believe nobody has noted that Texas beat OKL at a neutral site, and won the next two games at home. this is Colt’s first REAL road test, and that is assuming you dont count up-and-down Colorado
November 1st, 2008 at 10:12 pm
TBL
- His first real road test this year, maybe. The guy’s in his third year as a starter at a huge-profile program, it’s not his first rodeo.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:13 pm
TBL, he’s a junior no? I believe he’s been on the road before…
November 1st, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Maybe we see John Chiles for the next Texas series.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:14 pm
TBL - Colt isn’t playing so bad. Five drops, four by receivers, two by their best receiver. The sacks and incompletes are on his O-line.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:15 pm
3 runs in a row??
November 1st, 2008 at 10:16 pm
And….Brent squirts in his pants.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:16 pm
shipley gone … and we have a ballgame
TG - on the road as #1 is different than simply ‘going on the road’
November 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Texas’ special teams is playing well, even before this touchdown run. Punt team has had three inside the 20.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Shipley’s returns for TDs = momentum shifts.
Kirk mentioned Red River for me here.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pm
It was a fuckin clip.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Colt to me seems like he is in love with with 84% comp. rate. Lots of checkdowns.
TD by wes welker jr.(yes, I know welker played for tech…)
November 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pm
A bit of a gray area, Kurt?
That was a block in the back. Clear as day.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:19 pm
TG - on the road as #1 is different than simply ‘going on the road’
This is backtracking to not look stupid. The guy has been the starting QB at UT for three years. He’s been tested.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Not really…it can’t be as nerve racking as replacing a national championship winning QB as a freshman. As stated, most of texas’s woes are on the O-line.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Crabtree is so damn physical. Love that in a WR. Sure wish the Colts had a guy like that.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:24 pm
bsanders——gonzalez is pretty physical
November 1st, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Anyone notice that the Tech line operates more like an NFL line than a college line when it comes assigning protection? The center is calling the assignments out.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:26 pm
and here come the Horns
November 1st, 2008 at 10:27 pm
TG - We all hear about the few TTU receivers who make it in the NFL, and all the QBs who don’t. I wonder how many of their lineman do well in the NFL. TBL, go.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:28 pm
so you guys are saying Colt has seen a more hostile environment than this one? two top 10 unbeatens? night game? no way
November 1st, 2008 at 10:28 pm
At least Texas can win one phase of the game. Still doesn’t make me feel much better about how shitty the offense is playing, though.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:29 pm
blazers34
-Eh, from time to time. Unfortunately due to the musical chairs on the Colts o-line they’ve had to go with two TE’s a lot so far this year and Gonzo has lost a lot of snaps. He’s also dropped some big catches and has yet to acquire that knack for knowing where the first-down marker is. In short, he has a lot of potential, and when the Colts release Harrison after this season hopefully he’ll finally start realizing it.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:30 pm
TBL - I see your point, but this bad offensive performance isn’t on Colt, it’s on the O-line.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Man, I hope Tech wins just so Brent can’t stop verbally fellating McCoy at every opportunity.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Damnit. Orakpo’s a good guy and even better player. False start. Fucking O-line.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:32 pm
TBL- At A&M last year? Granted A&M wasn’t ranked, but that’s a huge rivalry. And Texas lost. Looking at their schedule over the past couple of years Texas has really shit the bed a few times. Such as tonight.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:33 pm
wow
November 1st, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Yes!
/McCoy’s Heisman campaign
November 1st, 2008 at 10:33 pm
wow.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Now that was a terrible throw
November 1st, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Alright, that one was Colt’s bad.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:34 pm
rd - i agree, the line has been abused.
long climb uphill now
November 1st, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Time to start the heavy drinking for me.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Another funny thing…both kickers have been wailing on the ball on kick offs.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:35 pm
jesus. i just got home and turned on the tv. this is insane!
November 1st, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Holy shit Syracuse beat louisville
November 1st, 2008 at 10:37 pm
BBS - All you need to know is Tech’s offense has been doing its thing but Texas’ O-line is getting ass raped by Tech. And now Colt is throwing badly, too.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:38 pm
But Texas is winning the special-teams battle. Shipley has a TD punt return.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:38 pm
“Looking at their schedule over the past couple of years Texas has really shit the bed a few times. ” Fetch]
Yes.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:39 pm
So is his completion % down below 80 yet?
November 1st, 2008 at 10:40 pm
With the exception, of course, of the National Championship and the game vs. OSU that set it up. The difference: Vince Young.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:40 pm
terrible play call when your o line is getting anally raped
November 1st, 2008 at 10:41 pm
bsanders - It’s got to be by now, though I suck at math so i couldn’t really tell you.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:43 pm
What’ sad is the score doesn’t describe how awful Texas has played tonight.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:44 pm
All Vince Young does is miss his wideouts by 5 yards.
All I wanna know is who’s all writing a novel for National Writing a Novel Month or whatever the hell this is called.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:45 pm
I keep seeing Corso down on the sidelines. I bet that guy is hard to talk to during the game.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:45 pm
There’s that “nastiness” of that T. Tech o-line. Surprised they called that one. Both their tackles have gotten away with a couple hands to the face calls tonight.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:47 pm
That’s a terrible drop by Tech, there. Could have ran out the end of the quarter.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:48 pm
What the fuck was that? We’re not a damned option team.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:49 pm
“complete to his roommate shipley”…that’s a bit of a weird statement
November 1st, 2008 at 10:50 pm
about time
November 1st, 2008 at 10:50 pm
this one’s just getting fun
29-20
November 1st, 2008 at 10:51 pm
fetch - I hadn’t seen that. Link? And I’m not saying VY was a great quarterback skill-wise. But he was a leader in college for sure.
Wow, I can’t believe Texas is still in this game. I’m happy as hell, but just as surprised.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Dollar Signs.
/This is fucking ridiculous.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Anyone know why Texas goes for two here? Seems way too early, and it only makes it an eight-point game, not seven.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:52 pm
the tt offense got conservative when it ran 3 straight inside its own 10
how tight will it be on its next drive? will another WR choke on an easy 3rd and short conversion?
November 1st, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Tebow would have run it in.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:53 pm
It shouldn’t have been pass interference in the first place, but it’s good to see them get the call right.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:53 pm
I’m really curious as to what was in Simmons’s column that got it spiked.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:54 pm
RDT4- Here’s the link for National Writing a Novel Month
And I agree about Vince I was just busting your balls a bit.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:54 pm
I’m beginning to concoct a scenario for a Texas/OU rematch in Miami. If Texas loses tonight and OU beats Tech next week, it becomes a real possibility of Texas and OU ending up 2 and 3. Can you bump Penn State and allow a rematch?
November 1st, 2008 at 10:56 pm
fetch - Thanks. I’ve heard it all before. Most people don’t remember he won the senior QB quarterback challenge (some stupid ESPN made-for-TV event) before getting drafted. But no, he was never a great passer.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Long - nobody’s denying PSU if they stay undefeated. If not, and Alabama loses, who the hell knows who’ll play in Miami.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Man, I’m young. I had no idea Craig James was pushing 50.
November 1st, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Longlivervierfront -
The Pony is being put out to pasture.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:00 pm
uf vs. alabama in sec title game will prob be to see who plays PSU.
that is, of course, assuming ALa doesnt lose to LSU, and UF doesnt lose to FSU or something ..
and i’d say USC is the sleeper to get in should Ala and UF lose. yes, over OKL.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Craig James and Eric Dickerson running for the SMU Mustangs, the best college team money could buy.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:03 pm
I don’t see Florida losing. Yes I think they’ll beat Bama in the SEC championship game. Resulting in another BCS mess with PSU and a bunch of 1 loss teams.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Bama’s losing next week. Bama’s probably better, but that’s going to be a buzzsaw game. 38-17.
Do you drop Texas below Florida if Tech holds on? I don’t. Ole Miss is not Tech in Lubbock.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Pacers absolutely spanked the Celtics tonite. Get on the bandwagon now, because the Pacers will be no worse than a #5 seed in the East.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Is that Life on Mars show any good?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Reggie Bush and Lendale White running for USC sure cost a pretty penny too
November 1st, 2008 at 11:07 pm
@bsanders…Life On Mars is good. I’d give it a shot.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:08 pm
True, but for some reason the NCAA has chosen to ignore USC’s cheating.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
hot damn
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
holy cow
williams again!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm

November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
YES!!!!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
!!!!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Holy. Shit. Looks like we might’ve finally woke the hell up.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Holy fuck he was wide open
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
buckle up folks, this one is going to be a great finish
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Tech is just throwing up all over themselves.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
this all started with a terrible decision by harrell to eat that sack instead of just throwing it away. you know that new kicker aint making no 42 yarder …
November 1st, 2008 at 11:12 pm
“Looks like we might’ve finally woke the hell up.”
Either that or it looks like a T Tech Dback fell asleep.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:12 pm
this sort of has a ND-USC feel to it … still a shitload of time for McCoy to reclaim his grip on the heisman. he locks it up with a comeback win tonight, right?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Why is Nissan bringing Marc Anthony back into our lives?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:14 pm
I would think he locks it up with a comeback win. If UT goes to the BCS Championship, then yes for sure
November 1st, 2008 at 11:15 pm
that’s a fantastic catch by the TT receiver
November 1st, 2008 at 11:15 pm
@ bsanders: Because they need to know. They need to know.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Detrone…that’s a fantastic name
wow, still running the ball
November 1st, 2008 at 11:19 pm
USC’s tit produces milk. Only Oklahoma has been busted in recent past, and that was a slap on the wrist. The NCAA would lose too much cash by punishing one of the 7 or 8 elite programs severely.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:20 pm
It’s interesting the NCAA values the income generated by those “7 or 8″ elite programs.
It would be great to see the NCAA value and respect those programs enough to create some type of playoff format
November 1st, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I wanna slap the shit out of these kids in the “rollover minutes” commercial.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:22 pm
everyone turn their clocks back?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:23 pm
What up Dudes. This game is fucking nuts. Harrell is a goddamn beast.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:23 pm
It could be worse, this could be sponsored by Burger King. They haven’t had a watchable commercial in years.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:23 pm
wait, so does that mean we gain an hour or lose an hour of sleep tonight?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Gain
November 1st, 2008 at 11:24 pm
terrible spot
November 1st, 2008 at 11:25 pm
i’d like to say a TD here kills Texas … can they really get 10 points in 5 mins?
OF COURSE IT CAN!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:25 pm
thank you Cabbage. but honestly, i’m a closet fan of the Burger King commercials..
“I wish I’d never been broiled!”
November 1st, 2008 at 11:25 pm
TERRIBLE CALL
November 1st, 2008 at 11:25 pm
wait, so does that mean we gain an hour or lose an hour of sleep tonight?
Gain. And then you lose like three hours after work. Wretched.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:25 pm
I work at Burger King making flame-broiled whoppers, I wear paper hats. Would you like an apple pie with thaaaaaaaat?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:26 pm
BS call
November 1st, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Musberger is getting ridiculous..
November 1st, 2008 at 11:27 pm
these passes are not chewing clock … dont you go for 10 or so here just to get the kid in FG position? or do you not even bother go up 6?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:28 pm
This game is fixed.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:28 pm
should have been picked!
terribly played by TT. they had 1st and goal from the 25 with 6:09 left … and promptly chewed about 18 seconds. good luck on this FG ..
November 1st, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Mas cervesas, Corona scores.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:29 pm
The bullshit PI call screwed up their play calling ability
November 1st, 2008 at 11:30 pm
But Dr. J, don’t you want them to drink faster so they’ll thus have to buy more of the product your schlepping?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:30 pm
So is Charlie Sheen considered considered an improvement over Kevin Bacon in these Hanes commercials?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Charlie Sheen is pretty good in Two and a Half Men.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:32 pm
this is going to be a PAINFUL loss for TT.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:33 pm
I smell a TT pick.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:33 pm
FOZZIE!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:34 pm
TBL - thanks for jinxing us, dude.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:34 pm
TT should just let Texas score a TD. you know it’s coming. that way, more time for Harrell. Too bad TT only has one TO left
November 1st, 2008 at 11:34 pm
TT might want to just let them score so they can get the ball back
November 1st, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Colt McCoy wants that Heisman trophy..
November 1st, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Texas will score, then Tech will score and leave 30 seconds for texas to score again…
November 1st, 2008 at 11:35 pm
McCain was just on snl. Not bad.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Who the hell names their kid Fosswitt?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Palin going rogue was pretty funny… “What are you doing over there, Sarah?”
November 1st, 2008 at 11:38 pm
harrell better have that 2 min offense ready
November 1st, 2008 at 11:38 pm
afflack too. snl might be coming around.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:39 pm
If this comes down to the contest kicker, it’s going to be bananas. Now that’s a movie I’d pay to see.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:39 pm
i guess harrell will only have like 40 seconds left. too bad. great effort from the red raiders. agony.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:40 pm
that’s actually good news. he’s looking at 80 seconds to get to i’d say about the 15-20 yard line. with one TO. that’s plenty of time, at home, with this offense
November 1st, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Kristen Wiig as Elizabeth Hasslebeck is AWESOME.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:42 pm
TBL - exaclty, there’s too much time left on the clock
November 1st, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Shit.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:43 pm
that’s certainly a good start. all they need now is like 50 yards
November 1st, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Come on Tech!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:44 pm
half to ask the TT defensive coord. after the game if the D let Texas score on that play. HUGE hole in the middle. not saying they did, but it has to be worth asking. if they dont score there, the Horns chew up at least another 40 seconds.
as for TT, i wouldn’t want to leave this up to the FG kicker. either of those clowns theyd trot out
November 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
wow, harrell is running this to perfection. i fear for that kicker, though.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
What a finish.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
oh come on
November 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
NO!
HE DROPPED THE PICK!!!!!!!!!
all harrell had to do was run OB!!!!
one more play
November 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
WOW
November 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Damnit!!!!! At least it wasn’t a completion
November 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Musberger was almost SO happy there.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
holy shit!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
OMFG! OMFG!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
WOW
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
OH MY GOD!!!!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
ASFDNVAADPTNAFTKNHAD:FKNAS:KFDA:FSKNVA
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
WOW AGAIN!!!!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
NO fucking way. NO FUCKING WAY
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm

November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Fuck my balls.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
YES! Crabtree on that ass!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:46 pm
insanity.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:47 pm
that’s a sick, sick ending
awesome
he totally scored
what an ending
November 1st, 2008 at 11:47 pm
get out the pepper spray
November 1st, 2008 at 11:48 pm
What a fucking throw and run after the catch.
And obviously you don;t have to be too smart to get into Texas Tech, what with the two premature field stormings.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:48 pm
TT won’t kick it deep there Brent
November 1st, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Somebody get a handle on those fans.
Musberger’s still holding out hope Texas can return the TD. Never give up Brent, never give up.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:48 pm
this game is over…an onsides kick gets the 1 second off the clock easily
November 1st, 2008 at 11:48 pm
If UT were to run the kick back, would that be a bigger play than “the band is on the field”???
November 1st, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Great finish. FU Texas. Hhahahahahahahahahaahah!
November 1st, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Tallguy…game can’t end on a penalty.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:50 pm
holy shit kicking from the 7.5 yard line
November 1st, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Anybody have any pictures of Graham Harrel’s girlfriend?
November 1st, 2008 at 11:50 pm
In any event, the clock doesn’t start on kickoff until the ball is touched.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Kobe dominated down the stretch.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:52 pm
yeah Jay V, but an onside kick would be either: a Tech recovery, or a UT guy turtling on the ball, causing a second to run off.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Unfortunately for TT, now they have to go bang their nasty cheerleaders.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Win or lose those kids are storming the field if Texas pulls this out of their ass it could be a huge brawl
November 1st, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Got to be a one hopper to a lineman.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:52 pm
onsides kick isn’t a penalty last time I checked, as long as it goes 10 yards.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Well it was fun while it lasted.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:53 pm
My bad, thought I read out of bounds.
November 1st, 2008 at 11:54 pm
new post is up
congrats TT
