Chris Fowler’s Priceless Reaction to Michael Crabtree’s Game-Winning Touchdown Against Texas
College Football, ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings November 3rd. 2008, 5:01pmAccording to a reader, this mash-up of photos is making the rounds on college football message boards in Texas. The dapper man with his mouth agape is ESPN’s Chris Fowler – a pro’s pro; probably one of the Top 5 talents at the network, in our opinion – reacting to Michael Crabtree’s now-legendary tightrope on the sideline with :01 second left Saturday night in Lubbock to stun No. 1 Texas. It’ll probably be more well-received on the Gameday set than Herbie’s heroics from a few years back when the referees stole a National Championship from Miami and handed it to Ohio State.

His reaction was no different than 95% of the people watching. The other 5% were put on immediate suicide watch.

Just read the old post you linked to. Some commenter named HKWILLIAMS goes on one of the largest rants in TBL history. ALL CAPS.

Does anyone remember a few years ago when they threw a football to Fowler, and he made the most unathletic attempt at a catch ever? I just can’t take him as seriously since.

I saw Fowler at the Espy’s a couple years ago. Extremely nice guy. His wife was really hot too. Remember this chick?

If there was one guy at the WWL that I could trade jobs with I think it would be Fowler. What a sweet job, surrounded by the passion of college football, heading into a new college town each weekend, co-eds; that’s hard to beat.

Except that in the off-season he is forced to cover Tennis…..

i must admit that my reaction was a bit strange, as well: I leapt off the sofa and jumped in front he TV and started screaming. my wife was laughing and pretty much in awe of the score as well.
i was raving the rest of the night about how a play like that is a guy’s DREAM – you score the game-winning TD to beat the No. 1 team in the nation, on TV, and then 50,000 people started to rush the field in your honor. that’s got to be the finest moment of the college football season, perhaps the best since the boise state hook and ladder.

i must have watched this 100 times already

what’s surprising is that Herbie says NOTHING. did he pass out? If i were in the booth, i would have lost it. i know it’s only been 48 hours, but this is going to be a seminal moment in college football history, regardless of what happens the rest of the way. it will stand the test of time, like the Desmond Howard punt return and heisman post, or the Boise State hook and ladder, or the Vince Young TD run to beat US, or Bo Jackson going the distance for Auburn, or …

hyperbole much? this was the middle of the season game where both teams don’t have THAT much of a rivalry going on and it wasn’t a bowl game or a game that would’ve determined anything at all seeing as it’s unknown whether either will be a factor at the end of the season.
wow…to think it’s amongst THAT company? no way.

They were most likely going to make the FG anyway. Texas had terrible kick-off coverage too. They were destined to lose that game. Still, how do you not triple team Crabtree?
November 3rd, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Did anyone notice, with about 1:30, a player on TT went down with an injury, and the clock stopped while he was laying on the field. Texas continued to score on the next play. Shouldn’t the clock have ticked, or TT been forced to call a timeout?

I wouldn’t trade with Fowler for all the tea in China. Just thinking of being in the same zip code as Herbstreit and Corso makes me want to stab myself in the neck.

my reaction was probably the same. it was an amazing play by crabtree.

I’d also like to give a shoutout to Reece Davis, who also has a pretty sweet gig. Although he does have to put in some pretty heavy hours at the start of basketball and football season.
