Must Listen-To: Texas Tech Radio Guys
1-liner, College Football, Media Gossip/Musings November 4th. 2008, 11:00amTexas Tech Goodness: This may appear knee-jerk, but we genuinely believe it to be true: The Michael Crabtree game-winner will go down in the annals of college football history as one of the 10 greatest finishes, ever. Also, you must listen to the Texas Tech radio call of the final drive. Around the 2:30 mark, one of the hopeful announcers whispers, “come on, Graham.” And when Blake Gideon nearly snares the interception, you can feel their complete dejection. If you want to skip to the orgasmic bedlam, 3:13 is the place for you.

The 313 is awesome!

I haven’t experienced orgasmic bedlam in a while.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Great find, but I think he was whispering “come on Graham” because the clock was ticking down to 16 seconds. I don’t think the color guy was praying for a touchdown (at least not out loud).
Does anyone else feel that Musberger’s call was a bit muted? And Herbie didn’t say a word. We need more Gus Johnson.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:11 am
For some reason, no matter what team is involved, I get the chills whenever I listen to a radio call of a game winning play like that
November 4th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Orgasmic Bedlam was the name of one of the bands I was in while in college.

I’m convinced Herbie takes bathroom breaks when shit happens he didn’t say shit when Shipley ran it back against Oklahoma.

vince young vs. usc ending springs to mind as potential top-10.
trying to think of some others. choke at doak possibly? penn state’s 80-yard march at illinois in 1994 to save their undefeated season also comes to mind.
i’m sure there are others. just drawing a blank. usc at notre dame in 2005?
oh, yeah. flutie… boise state… kordell stewart at michigan.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:17 am
god help us.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:20 am
umm… LSU vs. Kentucky anyone?
/LSU homer
November 4th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Manninghams catch against PSU…
November 4th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Colorado/Michigan ‘94 – Stewart to Westbrook
November 4th, 2008 at 11:29 am
TBL…i said something about this ridiculousness yesterday.
it’s nowhere near the top-10…this was a game between two luke-warm rivals in the middle of the seasons with 1/3 of the season left to see what the ramifications of Texas’ loss will be. it was nice, but aided by the fact that Texas’ D is atrocious and can’t tackle.
it’s not VY against USC. it’s not flutie, kordell stewart in the big house, hell, it’s not even up there with that catch that dude from nebraska made in the early 90’s to beat mizzou.
stop with the hyperbole.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Wasn’t the Kordell play in September?
November 4th, 2008 at 11:31 am
It depends on how far Tech makes it. If they happen to run the table and win the title, then yeah it might be up there. But not likely.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:31 am
There was also some game where the band was on the field. . .don’t remember who played though.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:32 am
I agree with TBL if Tech goes on to win the National Title, then this will be one of those seminal moments. Just watching it though it felt like one of those bigger moments. Maybe it was the crowd, or the fact you could feel the stomach punch coming for TTU and they were dreading coming up short in a big game again. Something about it felt bigger though.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Matt Davison. Awesome.
I think everyone can agree on Flutie and Kordell being in the top 5 right? You also have Stanford-Cal “The Band is on the Field” game. Boise St’s was definitely up there. Leinart pushed into the end zone by Bush against ND? Ohio St over Miami?
I think it also might have been different had Tech been playing from behind the whole game and then finally came through at the end, adding to the drama a little.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Wah, the Big XII doesn’t tackle!
Texas would hang 60 on PSU.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:39 am
well, we might have found out if texas didn’t choke.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:39 am
p.s. it was an open 9 yard slant. not great, just a last second win.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:41 am
No, no, no. The Cowboys being in trouble (or not) is knee jerk. This is just crazy. It’s a sideline route and a missed tackle.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Does this mean T-Tech hangs 70?
November 4th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Probably – Leach wrecks shop on FCS teams.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:44 am
umm… LSU vs. Kentucky anyone?
How about Demetrius Byrd vs. Auburn last year? They don’t win it all without it (although Colt David would have kicked the FG without it)
/also an LSU homer
November 4th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Um top 10 ever? I could probably name ten from 1980 on…
Flutie
Nebraska stopped 2 point
Stewart hail mary
Nebraska kicked ball to beat missouri
Bush Push
The Band is on the field
LSU hail mary afer Kentucky coached had been given a gatorade bath
Boise state Statue of Liberty
BC beats number 1 notre dame on last second field goal in 1993
LSU touchdown to beat auburn last year (LSU went on to win title)
Wide Right 1 and Wide Right 2
5th down.
We could go on and on. but it doesn’t matter this blog hasn’t become about facts anymore. Might as well change the title to The Big Hyperbole.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Amen spence, a midseason game between a couple of overrated teams does not make college football history.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is a very good change Tech doesn’t win another game this season.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Also, a lot of people are calling Blake Gideon the Steve Bartman of Texas football, which I think is kinda harsh for a team that won the NC 3 years ago.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:50 am
We could go on and on.
I’d add the SMU/BYU Holiday Bowl off the top of my head. Also, the Clint Stoerner fumble that won Tennessee the national championship
November 4th, 2008 at 11:51 am
nice list rs27, I amlost forgot about 5th down.
November 4th, 2008 at 11:53 am
i lean towards boise states statue of liberty because of the team they were playing and, more importantly, that it was a designed play, not one relying on a hell of a lot of luck involved(see: mary, hail).
November 4th, 2008 at 11:55 am
Question: Was Crabtree’s catch and run better than Charles Rodgers against Notre Dame a few years ago?
November 4th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Drew Tate to Warren Halloway. Game winner in the Capital One Bowl vs. LSU. Suck on that one Nick Saban!!
November 4th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
nope…and it sure as hell wasn’t as great as Michael Jenkins’ catch for OSU against Purdue on 4th down to preserve the undefeated season and propel the bucks to the NC game.
November 4th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Drew Tate to Warren Halloway. Game winner in the Capital One Bowl vs. LSU.
How could I forget?
November 4th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I do remember that. It falls under the “this is utter bullshit!!!” part of my brain.
November 4th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Forgot about the BYU game. Ah Clint Stoerner. the hand of god.
November 4th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
uhhh…knee jerk. That game was near identical to LSU’s win over Auburn last year in Baton Rouge.
