The Election
1-liner, NBA, Politics November 4th. 2008, 6:30pmElection: We’re off to dinner, and then have a hoops game tonight. We’ll be closely following the election until there’s a winner, and this better not be a repeat of 2000. We may watch it all unfold on CNN, or perhaps PBS. There’s a good NBA game on – Houston/Boston, but not on our TV dial. We’re on Dallas and New Jersey, but only because we’re gluttons for punishment.

Drudge is doom and gloom early – Obama has a huge lead in PA, apparently.
November 4th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
1. Exit polls don’t mean much.
2. Gawker (!) is more hopeful for McCain in PA than Drudge is.
I can’t wait for this to be over. Where’s Hef? I need a man-hug!
November 4th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I’ll man hug you. Good luck, tonight.

Interesting stuff on the early results coming in from Indiana. Obama is doing a lot better than Kerry did in 2004.
November 4th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
i put zero stock in exit polls as well. just pointing out that if drudge, a hardcore republican, has posted that info that early … it can’t be a good sign.
mike, did you ever say which side you’re for? i know you’re prominent on these … if you dont want to say, that’s fine

Obama in a landslide. This isn’t even going to be close.
Zero stock in exit polls as well, but this is just too obvious.

just curious on a few issues, feel free to answer or not:
for/against abortion?
for/against gay marriage?
for/against the bailout?
for/against the war?
for/against govt intervention in the economy?
immigration?
November 4th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Agreed. Winning 58+ senate seats and 260+ House seats in addition to the presidency is definitely a push in my book.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

It’s out of habit. I’ve been commenting on articles or blogs for years and this new fangled technology the site has is taking me a really long time to break old habits.
Fetch – Will do. It’ll be all I can accomplish just to get the players identified. I know all their names, but holy jebus, Collins is the only experienced guy on the team. Aldrich to some extent (6 mpg last year). On top of that, we have two 9 foot twins that even the team can’t tell apart.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
I am totally for abortion. All babies should be killed. Maybe you should rephrase that question, TBL.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
for abortion
for gay marriage
against the bailout
against the war
tentatively for gov’t intervention
for immigration
November 4th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

November 4th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Can you expand on this? Are you asking if we’re for laissez faire or if we’re for communism? You should probably drop this one as it’s a Giant spectrum and probably the basis of most political parties.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
yes on some, no on a few, maybe on the rest
November 4th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
KC- Cole Aldrich is gonna have a huge year I think. Ken Pomeroy did an article where he mentioned that Aldrich would have been the 7th or so best rebounder in the country (percentage wise) if he had played enough minutes to qualify.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
I agree with my best friend Mike. We’re like two peas in a pod.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
for/against abortion? Against
for/against gay marriage? Personally against, but it should be up to the states.
for/against the bailout? Staunchly against
for/against the war? For (my major break with Libertarian isolationism)
for/against govt intervention in the economy? Staunchly against
immigration? Secure border, tell everyone they can leave without penalty for the next XX days/months. If they don’t, round them up and deport them.
/racist
November 4th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
for/against abortion? – Don’t care at all about abortion.
for/against gay marriage? – I don’t really care. Let ‘em get married I guess. This seems like one of the sillier issues.
for/against the bailout? – Entirely too soon to tell, but I was way against it when it was proposed.
for/against the war? Which one?
for/against govt intervention in the economy?
immigration? There is always gov’t intervention in the economy. It’s a matter of how much and we are definately at that point. Perhaps more oversight, but enough meddling otherwise.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Holy fuck. I can’t do anything right. Sorry Benji and Clown. I will keep practicing.

I’m a pretty religious guy, but if you take the Bible to be a 100% literal document you’re a nutjob.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
The government intervention and immigration issues are a little too broad at the moment for me to say just “for” or “against.” I think there should be some government intervention and there should be some immigration limits. They’re both more complex than just saying “for” gay marriage, which I’m for because it’s none of my business who marries whom.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Did anyone write in a Presidential candidate?
November 4th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Wow TBL, trying to lead a bit with these questions? I didn’t know your next job was going to be at Fox News.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
for/against abortion? Not a fan, but it’s an inevitiability. I wish there were fewer, but I am in favor of its existence.
for/against gay marriage? Equal rights under the law. Definitely favor civil unions. I’m almost anti-marriage in general so I don’t care.
for/against the bailout? It seems like a necessity. I’m not a fan of bailing out rich assholes who take risks without consequence. But they cannot fail. If the US takes shares in these banks that can be sold back later, then I’m okay with it.
for/against the war? Against Iraq. Somewhat for Afghanistan. Against Iran.
for/against govt intervention in the economy? This is a dumb question. Do you mean “how much intervention?”
immigration? The grandchild of German Jews can’t oppose immigration. That’s just science.
November 4th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

i’ve also had some religious friends in my ear about abortion. im still waiting for someone to give me a bible interpretation. TBL
As someone who has gone to church most of my life… you won’t get one and you are looking in the wrong spot if you think the bible has a definitive answer. Life begins at conception and what actually is conception has been argued forever. Abortion is an unwinnable arguement and it is best to focus on other more important issues that have workable solutions.

for/against gay marriage? In the middle here, in favor of civil unions
for/against the bailout?for, I think this is a once in a century deal that required intervention
for/against the war?against Iraq, for Afghanistan
for/against govt intervention in the economy?see above
immigration?we can’t deport everyone back to Mexico, if that is what you are asking. But for illegals who commit a crime, the justice system needs to crack down much harder than it currently does

November 4th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Maybe CRM is a ghost buster. That would be sweet.
November 4th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Missouri, Indiana and Ohio are going to be key. CNN hasn’t called any of them yet.
I can only hope that they show some restraint tonight, and not call anything early (cough, Florida, cough).
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I wish Russert was here for this. I would be glued to MSNBC if he were.
November 4th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Fucking Ohio, why do I live here.

November 4th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Virginia, Ohio, Penn and Florida are the key states. Obama can lose Indiana and Missouri without a problem.
I agree about Russert. He was the very best.

November 4th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Sick of Russert’s son being treated with kid gloves. How much comedic immunity are you granted if your dad dies? He gets bigger laughs than Dane Cook at frat convention (gay frat convention).
November 4th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
What time is the Comedy Central stuff? 9 Gods time right?

November 4th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
What a surprise, McCain takes Oklahoma. I have family from OK, you have no idea how many emails I received in the last two months asking me to pray for McCain to win. And that Obama is an Al Qaeda plant. And that Obama shouldn’t be elected b/c he doesn’t wear a flag pin.

Fox, CNN and MSNBC have all called Penn for Obama. That should be the election. Everything else is gravy. Very few McCain victories don’t include Pennsylvania.

NEW POST!!111!@!
November 4th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Why are these always better than the actual fights?
November 4th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
late to the party…
for/against abortion? only females should decide that
for/against gay marriage? for.. everyone should suffer the horrors of marriage. still, it seems to go against separate church/state.
for/against the bailout? against. who bailed me out when I was in debt up the ass due to college and credit cards?
for/against the war? against, I know people who died there..
for/against govt intervention in the economy? against. Just fix SSI
immigration? So people steal land from other people, and then decide that some OTHER people can’t come here…
November 4th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
I’m number one in points scored. You’ve gotten lucky.
