DeAngelo Hall is a Mouthy, Unemployed Bum
NFL November 5th. 2008, 12:30pm
Sunday, while the rotten Raiders were getting smoked at home by the Falcons, 24-0, chronic trash talker DeAngelo Hall was giving his old teammates the business on the way to the locker room.
Despite a few shoves and reprimands from his new teammates along the way in the tunnel, Hall kept swinging his head around to deliver sizzling words to his old teammates. “I was with [the Oakland players] in there trying to pull him away from arguing, man, because I told him, ‘You’re better than that, be a good person and don’t get caught up in mouth talk,’ ” said Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jackson … Hall bolted unseen after the game without comment, but Jackson added from the visitors’ locker room, “I told him at halftime in the tunnel to be a good sportsman and just to keep on playing, man.”
Last night, Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reported that Hall would be cut this week, and while that seems sort of impossible, considering they gave the Falcons a 2nd round and a 5th round pick just last year for Hall … Hall received a pink slip this morning, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. As Hall’s talent has eroded, his mouth has exploded. It all seemed to go downhilll in December of 2006 when Terrell Owens roasted him for two TDs on Monday Night Football, and also spit in his face.
Falcons leave Hall speechless (AJC)
Raiders could release CB Hall (NFL Network)

Hall’s the #1 contender for the dog fighting championship. He is just waiting for Vick to get out so he can challenge for the title.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Since Isiah left last year, is there a worse GM in professional sports then Al Davis right now…really, I’m asking seriously because I can’t honestly think of one
November 5th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Grady Jackson is a beast.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
i wonder what happened to hall…he used to be pretty good.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
I PRAY that no one picks this piece of shit up. I am getting so sick of pro athletes that act like this clown. This guy got tagged as being a “shutdown corner” somehow early in hi career, but never was one. Let’s just see the NFL shut him down forever.
/knows it won’t happen
November 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
I’m not worried about him. posing in front of $300K worth of cars shows that he’s invested wisely and will be set for life.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
i dunno if you can pin the GM tag on davis…he’s the owner and has actually made some shrewd personnel moves. the team is talented, but what he’s done to the coaching staff and scouting team is terrible. but there’s worse talent evaluators out there.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
He won’t be unemployed for long.

November 5th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
@spencer: I can’t think of any shrewd personnel moves since signing Rich Gannon about 10 years ago

Investing $300K in assets that depreciate in value is wise?

I would take the Range Rover
November 5th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Mike: I thought of JJ. Do you think the way his team is imploding he would dare to add more wood to the fire (especially after “Adam”)? Wouldn’t put it past him, but he’s GOTTA be smarter than that (I think)

they drafted the best CB in the league in ndami awesome (can’t spell it, too lazy to look up), justin fargas, and picked up derrick burgess in free agency who’s been really good. kirk morrison is a pretty good LB as well.
don’t forget sebastian janikowski and the best punter in the league, shane lechler.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Yikes. It’s been a bad day today. Sorry, John.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
jpq1999, you’re an idiot. early in his career D. Hall was one of the top corners in the league but after everything with Vick went down, his personality just changed. I get so tired of whiny fans complaining about athletes behavior, have you watched the news lately. Can you really compare a mouthy athlete being a problem when people are out there killing their own childred and trying to kill yours if they get a chance. Get some perspective and look at it for what it is or turn the TV and watch something else. P.S. D. Hall will be with a new team by Friday morning if not sooner.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Let me get this straight, white guys cant wear jean shorts but black guys can? I always thought we were a jort-blind society?
November 5th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
irish, gotta go black on black with the Rover truck. that silver color is kinda weak.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
yes, because sports is our escape from that.
and your comparison is fucking terrible.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
please let this happen.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
So the reason he sucks now is that his personality changed? That’s a stretch.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Meant to add:
Nice John
November 5th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
@spencer: agreed on what’s his name DB (but he whiffed on about 3 others, including Buchanan & safety Michael Huff). Fargas (and even Michael Bush) were probably good picks in terms of where they were drafted. Seabass was picked kinda high, but yeah, he has made some good ones. He has been able to pick pretty high over many of the last 10 years, though.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
@benji- i wish i could afford one. I like that color. Black on black is hard to keep clean

November 5th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Hall’s reputation has always been way more hype than about actual performance. Since he came into the league he was getting owned by the top receivers in his division like Steve Smith.
Hall’s attitude starting going downhill once the smart writers in Atlanta started realizing how overrated he was. It only got worse as the situation in Atlanta deteriorated.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
spence: Carson, River, umm Leon Hall?
Okay, yeah. Fuck the Bangs. The rest suck nutsack.

He was a first-round pick! “Kinda high”??
November 5th, 2008 at 12:53 pm

??????????
November 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
so? he’s been an integral part of the team since he was drafted and they didn’t like anyone else at that spot. how many first rounders can you say that about? 35%, 40% if you’re feeling generous?
November 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Kick His Ass Seabass!
November 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
in college though, he was a real nice player/returnman
dare i use “lockdown” when he was at VT?
November 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
@ChrisP: Boy, somebody shot you out of a cannon. I think the first person that started calling “dhall” a shutdown corner was “dhall”. When former players on literally every football show I’ve seen call you out for not being that good, I’ll take their evaluation over yours, thanks.
Also, at the end of my post, I said I know it won’t happen with respect to him being out of the league. He’ll probably be signed by someone by the time I get done writing this post. Doesn’t mean the guy still isn’t an overrated, team-killing loudmouth who isn’t as good as he thinks he is. Why do you think he’s called “Meangelo”???
November 5th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
@spence: I would never ever use a first round (top 15, at that) pick on a fucking cornerback, but he’s pretty solid.

in college though, he was a real nice player/returnman
No doubt, and he’s always been great with the ball in his hands. His first year he had a couple of fantastic punt returns and one amazing INT return for TD.
His athleticism is undeniable. I remember him being on the Jim Rome show his rookie year and him telling Rome that he was lucky he was so athletic because most guys have to study film for years and get their technique down perfect to be a decent NFL corner.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I hate you Al Davis for signing ass-clowns like Hall and Javon Walker. Thank you for making me hate football. I can’t wait until you can no longer ruin a once decent franchise.

Well, he had terminal cancer so I doubt the ER was going to help him much. And yes, I get it, he created ER.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
he’s an above average guard though. might be paying him a shit-load and missed on braylon, but still is productive and on the team.
and even though he’s got a large contract, it’s not THAT out of line with the other large guard contracts that have been recently signed.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Well they can bring him Jurassic Park style.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Nashandi was a #20+ pick (I want to say 23 overall); Janikowski was the 17th overall. In Spence’s defense, Janikowski is about to become the all time leading scorer in Raider history. Also Gallary has played much better since being moved to LG.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
tommy kelly was probably a little overpaid i think..

November 5th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
MeAngelo Fall has always been an overrated piece of crap. He’s done nothing to show me he’s even a good corner in this league.
He’s a mouthy prick with a bad temper.
And the Robert Gallery talk. Yeah, bust at LT. But the Raiders are idiots for moving him around so much. He’s clearly a better guard but they don’t understand that.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
In Spence’s defense, Janikowski is about to become the all time leading scorer in Raider history.
That really only speaks to the length of time he’s been their kicker. No NFL team should be spending a first round pick on a kicker.
Picking him in the first round is as stupid and funny now as it was then.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:05 pm

just because it’s not the norm doesn’t mean it was a bad idea…especially since he’s been productive.
jpq…they say he’s a bust because of where he was drafted, but he’s still playing and is a capable guard. i don’t see that as some HUGE bust.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
He’s from VT, 90% of the players out of there are pieces of shit.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Cool Rick-To bad John Stamos coldnt save him!
November 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
He also has had something crazy like 3 different offenses and OL coaches to learn. Maybe some continuity would help the guy out a little bit.
This is true as well. Janikowski and Lechler are the only 2 holdovers from the Super Bowl team 5 years ago.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
It would be awesome if that Patriots picked him up, he behaved and turned into a Pro Bowler…..wouldn’t you just love to see the look on Al Davis’s face if this happened? That would give me great great joy

spencer: he’s following very closely the career path of Mike Williams of Texas, taken by the Bills. He was a “can’t miss” #4 pick, a huge waste, cut by the Bills, went to the Jags and was cut, and now probably hanging w/ VY at UT games wondering what happened.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:14 pm

November 5th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
CR-That was a ER reference
November 5th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
i don’t see that at all. the difference is that gallery could probably start at guard for 2/3 of NFL teams. gallery is always in shape and relatively smart, he just got physically owned at LT because he had short arms and lacked lateral speed. at guard that defiency is negated because he’s able to use his technique and get to the second level instead of worrying about fanning out.
williams was a fat fuck with no work ethic. gallery has a future, not that high of a ceiling, but he’ll always be a decent guard, which is more than anyone can say about that lard-ass williams.

November 5th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
jpq, footen the best oftball players calling out other football players for lack of skills is akin to playing the dozens. I’m sure most of those guys whom you saw bash D. Hall are probably some of the same guys he’s either got the best of in the past or guys who just don’t like him. I understand a lot of people don’t like cocky players who don’t always back their talk up but let’s call this what it is, another example of Al Davis being possibly the most imcompetent and unaware owner in professional sports today.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
and it would’ve been smart to spend it on a guy who wouldn’t be on the team in 4 years and was a much bigger risk adjusting to the pro game?

I’ve gotta disagree with you spence. Regardless of the risk, you need to try and grab Pro Bowl talent in the first round. A decent kicker is not a luxury. Almost every NFL team has one. They are easy to find.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
this post is getting ridiculous, people sure are in a good mood today
coolrick: gotta agree w/ you. I’m stuck at home w/ the DirectTV guy here since 8:45 this AM installing an HD dish/receiver and he’s still not done. This is the FIFTH appointment since 9/30 I’ve had to get this thing done. Can you say unproductive?? -lol
November 5th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
no, but this is SEABASS!!! how often can you get a 260 lb. kicker with 70 yard range with a criminal record and a totally badass name?
seriously…he should’ve gone no. 1 overall.
and i do agree with you that they probably should’ve gone somwehere else, i just see some logic in the pick and don’t think it was that bad. i think the lions drafting mike williams from USC despite knowing he had 0 work ethic, no speed and a weight problem is worse than going for a kicker who’ll be there for a decade.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Spencer: I think we both agree: NEVER DRAFT A MIKE WILLIAMS!
November 5th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
More pluses to Sebass: He routinely kicks 65-70 yard FGs in practice; if the Raiders can get to the 45 yard line they can score points; he likes to tackle people on kickoffs, he booms the ball for touch backs all the time; he is as big as the Raiders linebacker core.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
I agree with Chris P.
DeAngelo was a great CB in college and a hell of a CB in the pros. He probably gained an attitude problem after he saw what happened to Mike Vick when there are guys out there who have killed people and gotten off with less (Leonard Little). Seeing how awful the world can be can change a man for better or for worse. DeAngelo is a great talent and I would take him on my team anyday. “Talking shit” is no reason to dismiss a player from a team. Joey Porter, Ocho Cinco, Ray Lewis, Heinz Ward, LDT, Lendale White… etc, etc, would all agree.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Keep dreaming Maggs and Chris. I’m sure this guy doesn’t know as much about player evaluation as you two scary talents, but read this (and yes I know he has an axe to burn on the Raiders, so spare me)…
From Mike Lombardi of Nflnetwork:
It was not logical when they signed Hall, it was not logical to give up a HIGH second round pick for a marginal player, and it was not logical to then pay that player (when no one was competing for his services) based on each one of their ridiculous bids. (And by the way, EVERYONE in the NFL wanted nothing to do with Hall and viewed him as a bad apple in the locker room) But this is what happens when you have a dictator running a company. Logic does not prevail and never will. At what point does Raider nation stop and say what everyone in the Hotel says each day—“when is he going to let someone do it?†“When is he going to allow someone to handle the job?†“When is the retirement coming?†The answer is never. Even when he makes mistakes like Javon Walker and De Angelo Hall, no one has the power or the ability to reason with him and get him to stop hurting the team and the franchise. I bet those Wall Street investors are wondering what happened to their money as they watched the dictator throw it out the window to players that were not worth it and did not have another offer on the table that remotely came close to what they got in Oakland. In the past two years, he has gone from burning a second round pick on Hall, releasing a high third round pick in Quintin Moses, and getting nothing back for his wasted spending. It’s a good thing he owns the team because he would be fired in a Fantasy League, let alone an NFL team. The one thing we have learned about life is that we tend to stay too long or we are too late to react to situations. And the legacy that was created in the 60’s 70’s and early 80’s has been badly tarnished. Much of what I learned about football in my formative years came from studying the methodology he used. No one outside the “REMEMBER WHEN†section of the Hotel will care about those times—all what they will remember is WHAT HAS HAPPENED NOW. And now is very bad.
On a side note here, if the Raiders do release Hall and another team claims him, the Raiders would need to have enough cap room to handle all of his signing bonus acceleration. And the rights of an NFL vested veteran, no matter what team claims him, would mean he would have to go, but would not have to honor the remaining portion of his 2009 contract. He could opt out and become a free agent-which would be very unlikely, since he has 16 million coming to him in an option bonus. And on another side note, the Raiders can forget about EVER getting another agent to take just the skill portion of a guarantee. The reason teams don’t guarantee skill and injury contracts is because the league demands you fund that money when it has both guarantees. Clubs can successfully argue that they are going to pay the money, since they have given the player so much of a signing bonus that it would be illogical to cut him—BUT not where logic does not exist in the Hotel California….
November 5th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
What is your deal man? Did DeAngelo Hall come into your house and pee on your rug? I simply think DeAngelo is fine for what he did. He is a grown man and is accountable for what he says and has every right to speak out about what he thinks. I still think he is a talent regardless of how much shit he talks. That is all. Your extra extra extra long read about some dip shit who thinks otherwise isn’t going to make me think “Oh, Yea. You know DeAngelo does suck because he talks shit” so save it.

how many more times does he have to get scorched for people to realize he can’t flip his hips? it has nothing to do with recognition skills or being an asshole, the dude is just tight in the hips and gets burnt all the time.

hey, all im saying is lets try and stick to the sports…last thing we want is our outlet for work-induced boredom to turn into a hate-filled shouting match.

Mags, I am happily married w/ two great kids, live in a nice big house in FL, and make enough to shortly be writing a check to redistribute my wealth.
You think I give a flying fuck about you and your sad pathetic existence bemoaning that everyone is dumber than you? You are one sad excuse for a person, yelling at people on a blog all day.
I don’t give you a second’s thought (except on here).Don’t flatter yourself.

See what I mean? I kept it classy, he called me a douchebag and suddenly I am the bad guy. I even try to keep it classy for once and this low brow has some shit for me.
Thanks for letting me know that your dick works JPQ. I feel worse for letting you know that you are a piece of garbage with ill founded opinions and baseless comments now. <– sarcasm.

There was no fight. You were the one who went with personal attacks. I was simply stating that I think DeAngelo is a fine CB. You threw a hissy fit. Go see if your cable finally got hooked up and give it a rest for today, you are circling the drain.

Well, you see my dear Maggs, let me break it down for you.
This is from an episode of The Simpsons (Note the Simpson tag at the bottom) in which Lisa is being forced to watch a movie on why eating meat is good. In this, Troy McClure says that once a cow is a certain age, it “graduates” to “Bovine University”, meaning it is slaughtered. Ralph, being an idiot, says “When I grow up, I want to go to Bovine University!” thinking it’s an actual place of learning. Ralph is an idiot, you’re an idiot, you are Ralph.
You always seem to start fights with people with no reason on this board. Always. You seem to pick a fight over the DUMBEST things, probably because no one gives a shit enough about how horrible the Wolverines are, and no one ever, EVER agrees with you. SO-since you start a fight with a person (usually Spencer) over something small and then it spills over to some deep resentment over an issue no one else cares about, you are married to said opposition. You are the mom in this situation.
You are a female Ralph.
/fin.
