Highest Paid NFL Players in 2008
1-liner, NFL November 6th. 2008, 12:45pmNFL Money: USA Today has a list of the Top 20 highest-paid NFL players this season, and Big Ben leads the way at a staggering $27.7 million. This list is actually pretty absurd: JaMarcus Russell is 4th at $16.8 million, guard Chris Snee of the Giants is 6th at $14.8, Tampa Bay center Jeff Faine is 14th and $13.1 million, and Carolina guard Travelle Wharton is 17th at $12.8 million. No Brady. No Eli. No Brees. No. LT. No Adrian Peterson.

Brady recently restructured his contract when they signed Moss to give the Pats more cap room.

I think Mike Vick is up on the list as well.
Wait, nevermind.

This list makes me sick. Big Ben? Really? then Jared Allen? Really? This list is gross.

Mike vick was only like 10yr @ 100 mil.
Big Ben’s $27.7M is way more than i thought any football player was making. that is crazy.

There are at least two things wrong with that list item.

I guess that thumb rings costs a lot.

Dalls has 5 out of the top 20. How the hell do they stay under the cap?

Ben’s base salary for this year is 2.5 mill, that 27 number comes from his 25 mill signing bonus earlier this year. The bonuses should probably be prorated across the entire contract for a more reasonable number.

That should mean Chris Snee is making more money than any other NY Giant. And he is Coughlin’s son in law.

St. Bear good point but it still is crazy and its a NFL contract.

I was in the car this AM listening to M&M and they talked about it. Golic said that Dan Klecko made $10.6 million, but they checked, and he really only made $600K, so the list was wrong 9at least in Klecko’s case).
Greenburg asked Golic & Schlereth if that happened, would they want the printed mistake to be higher or lower than the actual. Both guys said lower, so no abuse from other players, fans, etc.
Greenburg said more, so people would think he was actually making that much jack. What a loser….

This link is much better, it shows you base salaries, bonuses, cap number. Peyton actually has the highest cap number.

He should. How’d you like to get screamed at by old “Dad” all day, then have him come over on your birthday or Christmas Eve? Dude is making hazard pay.lol

coop, that makes so much more sense. i guess i figured USA Today had prorated the signing bonuses and he was still making that.

I hate to sound like the voice of reason but remember that most NFL contracts are front loaded because NFL doesn’t have fully guaranteed salaries so of course the top 20 NFL players are not going to be some of the biggest names because they already got their money. Most pplshow up for a year or 2 on these lists and that about it, exact opposite of the NBA. SI does a good job explaining it when they chronclies the highest paid altheles in America every year.
Also AP is still on his rookie contract, if I rem correct

I like on the first link they show the team payrolls. Oakland has the highest with $152.4M. How’s that working out for ya?

Drew Rosenhaus was on the radio also this AM (local Miami, lot of car time) and they asked him about his contracts. Since 1/1/08, his clients have signed contracts for over $700 MILLION,an NFL record. He said the gets 3%, and gets paid when the players get paid. If you “book” that kind of contract value for a few years, thanks quite a little annual bankroll you generate
/learned that in econ 101

Baby Daddy deserves every penny of that…and remember those include signing bonuses so Snee just signed the new deal. Eli gets his next year when his contract comes up.
