Over the weekend, we heard a juicy yet unverifiable rumor: ESPN.com’s Skip Bayless, who has polluted the bandwidth on Page 2 for nearly two years, would be penning his last online column this week. But to the chagrin of many, his ranting and raving – think a white version of Stephen A. Smith, with more wrinkles – on Cold Pizza will continue.

Not surprisingly, John Edward Bayless II and his criminally awful prose never became a hit with readers. According to our source, ESPN TV forced Bayless on the .com (likely to steer eyeballs to Cold Pizza), but after nearly two unspectacular years, the experiment appears all but over. Should we mention that Bill Simmons, the face of Page 2, doesn’t like the guy? It should be noted that the Daily Quickie’s last day on Page 2 will be Thursday, so perhaps the once-vaunted page is undergoing some kind of overhaul.

Bayless has the unfortunate habit of making foolish, over-the-top idiotic statements – for instance: claiming that Troy Aikman was gay, and that Mike Piazza isn’t Hall of Fame material – and standing by them no matter how profoundly wrong they happen to be.

Poking around the net, we found this great line about Bayless:
