1-liner, College Football November 8th. 2008, 7:22pmJoePa Knocked Out of National Title Picture: So what will they do in Happy Valley tonight? Go apeshit anyway? One thing we do know - sophomore kicker Daniel Murray will be buried under a healthy pile of ass for the better part of what’s left of the weekend. (The Daily Iowan)

The Curse of TBL strikes again.
November 8th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
makes the article in the collegian yesterday about the series of arrests being made for the osu ‘riot’ even funnier. thats why you don’t riot for regular season games, bad mojo.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Joe Pa is a class act. He may have let control of his program slip a little lately, but he’s still a class act.
I met him when I was a senior in high school, he was scouting Lydell Mitchell, and told him I’d like to play for Penn State. He told I wasn’t quite fast enough for them. The next week, I get a letter from Temple coach George Makris offering me a scholarship on Joe Pa’s recomendation. It wasn’t exactly where I wanted to go, but a free ride was something I couldn’t turn down.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the corner crying and drinking myself to sleep.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
@cabbage: That’s pretty fantastic.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Wow that’s pretty cool cabbage. JoePa definitely is the man, not too many guys would do that I’d imagine
November 8th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
cabbage, that’s awesome. JoePa is the man. anyone who has anything bad to say about him is an idiot.
was Kirk Herbstreet really in Baton Rouge?
November 8th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Yes, Herbstreit was breaking the story on Les Miles becoming Michigan’s next coach
November 8th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Cool story, Cabbage. Did you meet Bill Cosby?
November 8th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
OSU looking tough early
November 8th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
This game is going for 80 + points. I love me some Tech, but I can’t root against OState. Just hoping for a fantastic finish and action from here till then.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
goddamnit i love the islanders throwbacks. best uniforms in hockey hands down.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
best pro unis you mean…
November 8th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
of course. maine > all
November 8th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
UNH’s roadies are pretty nice. So are UND’s. But yes Maine’s whites are definitely the best home unis.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
EFFIN RIGHT MAINE!!!!!
/Black Bears Alum
November 8th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
I met him a few times at practice, but he was about five years ahead of me. I’m old, but not that old.
November 8th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Were pudding pops involved?
November 8th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
CR, Bill Simmons would be proud of your blog.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
You mean puddin’ pops.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
awesome now I can talk trash to cracker jack.
/9th (?) in Hockey East last year
November 8th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Spurrier pulled a good one today. He alternated QB’s every other play today and beat Arkansas.
And the Tenn administration got what they deserved today, they will not be bowl eligible. That football team has quit. As much as I dislike Fulmer, he got a raw deal and the decision to let him go is going to haunt the Vols for a while. He did have them in the SEC championship game last year.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Cabbage -
Everything about your 8:56 post was awesome. Well done, sir.
Fetch - What channel is the college hockey on? I might toggle. Tech is on the verge of blowing this thing wide open.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
KC- It’s on FSN North. There’s probably some CCHA action on whatever FSN channel you have, although maybe the Blues are on.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Yeah fetch they were pretty awful last year.. did make the National Championship the year before though.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
i hate to be that guy cracker jack, but they lost in the semis to Michigan State the year before. Something I know all about, since my school has done it the past 4 years.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
And by NC, I mean frozen four…. DOH
November 8th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
And while I was still in school in 04, I was in Boston for the last time they were in the Final… watched it at bar across from Fenway and had to listen to trash talk from a bunch of BC fans.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
They were in the title game in 04? I remember the 01 or 02 game in St. Paul when they lost to Minnesota. That was a hell of a game.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Stat you wish you knew before you bet on OK State.
They haven’t won in Lubbock since 1944. That’s four years before I was born and that my friends was a long, long time ago.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Jeez Minnesota is kicking the shit out of UNH.
Cabbage I call total BS on you being 60. You shouldn’t A. Be able to turn on a computer or B. be awake right now.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Yeah they played Denver and lost 1-0… I remember they had a 5 on 3 for the last minute or so and couldn’t score.. so excruciating.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
And dont get me started on 2002… they had to play Minnesota in St. Paul for the title.. but yeah didn’t it go into OT?
November 8th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Yesterday I was trying to figure out who the other school besides mine lost to Denver when they went back to back, so thanks.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
I guess at least I’ll always have 42-1-2
November 8th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
fetch I wish it was bullshit. I’ve been drinking sugar-free Red Bull all day to stay awake.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
back from a scrabble victory, and wondering why OK State cannot stop the TT offense. dont feel confident about the Cowboys at all, esp if they dont get a stop here.
harrell’s NFL stock has to be going through the roof
November 8th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
I just got back from Tiger Stadium. Fuck me.
How many teams can say “All you have to do to beat the #1 team in the country is NOT THROW FOUR FUCKING INTERCEPTIONS
Three, okay. Four, sorry.
Jarrett Lee now has thrown 6 pick-sixes in the last 7 games, with 2 more returned inside the 10.
And he’s a part-time quarterback.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Who the hell can play srabble in under two hours? fuckin amatuers
November 8th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
TBL- Keep that Harrell NFL stock to yourself, I want him to be around when the Vikes draft.
Cracker Jack- That’s true you do. Kind of like I have the 7 national titles, although it would be nice for them to get one while I’m going here. Or at least one I can remember, I barely remember the 2000 title. I remember our football title more than that.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Jay, too bad Perileaux was a total dick. LSU would be a completely different football team with a QB.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
fetch, the Vikings have T-Jax. they don’t need Harrell.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; Harrell has that Bradyesque ability to stay cool under pressure. I think he’s really going to be a good one in the pros.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
jay - did you see jerry o connell?
fetch - at this rate, do you think Harrell’s stock puts him in the top 15?
November 8th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
cabbage - but what say you when someone says, “system QB?”
colt brennan, kingsbury, wuerffel … harrell?
November 8th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Cabbage,
When all is said and done though, I’d rather take my lumps with Jarrett Lee this year than have that dick on my team and not win the national championship.
And we weren’t winning at Florida with Perrilloux at QB.
God, Russell Shepard had better be the second coming of Terrelle Pryor next year. If we can even keep him committed.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
back from a scrabble victory, and wondering why OK State cannot stop the TT offense.
No one has been able to stop the TT offense.
Harrell can do what past Tech QB’s couldn’t do… evade the rush when the first two progressions don’t work.
Everyone… almost halftime… watch the off the field interview with Leach. Good stuff to be sure.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I dunno if he’s in the Top 15 or not, but at this point I can’t really think of a QB I’d draft before him unless I’m totally forgetting someone. So yeah I guess he would be then.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
This year’s draft doesnt have that many good qbs. Hell, McCoy will stay (according to Kiper). As long as the Lions dont draft him, I dont care. I guess Chiefs could?
November 8th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
dez, you GOTTA hold onto that. geez that hurts
November 8th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I’M A GROWN ASS MAN!!!
November 8th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
TBL, Harrell just has that “look” about him that makes him appear special. That throw to Crabtree’s back shoulder was not just a “system QB” throw, that was great throw.
And when you look at what passes for a NFL QB these days, how could he not be successful?
November 8th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Harrell is big enough, has a huge arm, and is really accurate. I remember in the KU game 2 d linemen and a linebacker got through and were in his face and he was back pedaling and threw an out pattern to the far hash that hit Crabtree on the run, just a perfect throw.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Jerry O’Connell? Really?
Please tell me that he wasn’t pulling for us. My night can’t get any worse. Oh wait. Florida’s still unstoppable. Never mind.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Mike Gundy is half porcupine.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Gundy looked like something straight out of hotchickswithdouchebags.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Watching Hitman. What a craptacularly awesome movie.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Cool Rick -
Come on, that’s low. You’re just jealous you can’t rock the gel in the hair like Gundy.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Fine, HCWDB minus the hot chick.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Tebow making a late run for the HT. Threw for 3 and ran for 2 in the first half.
November 8th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
channelsurfing.net appears to have a feed of tonight’s Calzaghe/Jones fight, if anyone’s interested.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
down 14 and now a fumble at midfield to open the half. a TT score here ends it.
and having seen Dez Bryant’s stats against ranked teams (no TDs, no 100 yard games), i’m going to put him i the second tier of stud WRs.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
anyone else see the player on TTU name LA Reed?
November 8th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
the cowboys just can’t stop them. harrell’s making it look easy. i have zero confidence in OK State rallying
November 8th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
This dude fighting right now has leopard print trunks on. Yipes.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
ive never seen a shootout goal reviewed in the nhl. let alone where the puck got shot into the leg pad and had to be pulled out to confirm where it was. ridiculous. great comeback and third period by the pens though.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
crabtree slant
score
ballgame
35-14
so can they keep this going at Oklahoma next week? this team looks incredible at home … will the defense be as pumped? Will Harrell be as perfect?
November 8th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
lol
lol
too bad the D forgot to show up. how could they contain texas in austin, but NOT harrell in lubbock?
November 8th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Dont look now, USC is only up by 7..
November 8th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
too bad the D forgot to show up. how could they contain texas in austin, but NOT harrell in lubbock?
Tech is the better team? I dunno. Seems like it.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
KC, you took the words right outs my mouth. TTech is better, last week was not a fluke.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Looks like Cincy gets the lead in the “Shouldn’t be given a BCS spot” conference race.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
I said it last week, I’ll say it again tonight: we’re watching the national champs right now.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Damn, this looks like one of those 7 on 7 passing drills.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
ok, i can’t stomach this. every Texas Tech WR is wide open and it’s too damn easy. im going to lay down in bed and probably pass out watching this.
tebow in 2016?
November 8th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
LLRF, can the Big LEast be expelled from the BCS? That conference is a total joke.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
They technically can when the contract has to be renewed, I think. They won’t because of basketball oddly enough. But it’s fun to mock them.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Uh, oh. WVU scores, then gets the onside kick. 20-17 with 18 seconds left. no timeouts for WVU.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Harrell and Crabtree is like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Amazing.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
McAfee a 52 FG to tie…
November 8th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Good.
OT in Morgantown. Total collapse from Cincy. LOL.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
oh well, at least I’m still World FUCKING Champions
November 8th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Correction KC. Peanut butter and honey. Those sandwiches are the bomb.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Ha ha, WVU fans had to stop burning couches to run back in the stadium…
November 8th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
It would be poetic justice if no one in the Big LEast got 6 wins to be bowl eligible. I know it won’t happen, but it would still be hilarious if it did.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
So did Brent wise up and put money on TT this week or what?
November 8th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Correction KC. Peanut butter and honey. Those sandwiches are the bomb.
My Dad used to make my brother and I PB, honey and banannananana sandwiches. Never really caught on with my bro and I, but he loved it.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
great call, rick. PB&H rules. So do waffles with peanut butter. Had one for supper tonight, awesome.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
World Destroying Sandwich: Peanut butter, honey, banana, lay’s potato chip
November 8th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Ate many a PB/Banana/Dorito sandwich as a broke college kid. They were ok.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
The Fighting Irish alumni have to be getting restless.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Cincy wins in OT
November 8th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
TSH-Fat Charlie has been a horrific failure. Maybe Fulmer or Tuberville could get a shot there. Ego-wise both men could justify taking that job.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Haha TBL went to bed before 60 year-young Cabbage. Way to go old man.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
I can’t believe Cincy is likely to play in a BCS game. Living in the area, I’m happy for them, but they aren’t very good. Hopefully they play the ACC champ or Boise/Utah…or they’ll get rolled.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
No crunched up chips on sandwiches. that would be a rule if I were a parent. KC, your dad messed up (not an insult) by adding fruit to a nothing but sugar sandwich.
True story, on a field trip at the zoo i whipped out a pbhs and got stung by a bee hidden in my sandwich.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Tech’s O is God.
Cool Rick - Bannananana is nothing but sugar.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
I dont understand the whole putting potato chips on a peanut butter sandwich. That sounds gross.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Be nice, he still hasn’t gotten over that whole Heath Ledger suicide thing.
That and everyone knows a hard game of scrabble just saps all of your energy.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
I like the texture it adds.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
fetch-try it one time. They’re great.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
I think cabbage is my new favorite commenter, replacing, you guessed it, irishmafia.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Cool Rick again - Agreed. Crushed chips on sandwiches is wrong. The wife likes it and I will not let my child abide by that. Also, cutting the crust off the bread? Totally soft. Don’t raise a kid to be a pussy. The crust is IT.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
He’s gotta be running out of time. Floyd is going to be a special receiver, that’s about it.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
I like Lays in my bologna and cheese sandwiches. And PB & honey is tha bomb!
November 8th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Did anyone see the new Flutie statue? It looks like Ostertag throwing a football, not little Flutie.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
I like Lays in my bologna and cheese sandwiches. And PB & honey is tha bomb!
Pinko.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Never understood the ‘cutting off the crust’ thing. Who cares?
Completely off topic: Anyone see on the crawl the rumor of a Matt Holliday-for-Ryan Ludwick plus some random guys trade? Cubs fans everywhere just crapped their pants. Pujols/Holliday would be the next Manny/Papi.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
KC - simple, does your wife back thier lunches? If so, put some tortilla chips in the sandwich bags and your kids wont put them on thier sandwiches.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
*pack
November 8th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Did anyone see the new Flutie statue? It looks like Ostertag throwing a football, not little Flutie.
Two G’s, kind sir.
Also, Good job today. I was in and out and watching KU getting Shawshanked, but I went over the posts and giggled. Perhaps, it was the brown liquor. I dunno. Who questions Comedy? Not me.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Holliday on the Cards would be huge.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
My grandpa (who lived in the depression) always told me the crust was the best part.
/
seriously
November 8th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
TTech gets a week off before the Oklahoma game.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
why would the Rockies want Ludwick? weeze, who were the random guys, do you know?
November 8th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Rick -
The boy is almost three. No packing of lunches yet. The chips in a sandwich thing is an issue with wife. She’s getting help, but damn, her benefits don’t cover it.
Tech v OU next weekend will be the lateset game of the century. OU in a waltz. Sadly.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
If Oklahoma beats TTech, there’d be a three way tie in the Big 12 South between Texas, TTech, and Oklahoma. I wonder what the tie breaker is?
November 8th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Cabbage… Thanks. In two weeks, OU in a waltz.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Both OU and TTech get next week off, which means they’ll probably both drop in the polls next weekend.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Damn HMO’s, always trying to let a chip stuffer suffer
November 8th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Cabbage -
We went through this a couple weeks ago. I can’t remember the details. It is confusing and detailed. I figured it out last week by Google fairly quickly. More or less it will probably boil down to BCS rankings (which is the 6th or 7th option.)
Tech is rolling.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
KC, can OU play even a little bit of D?
November 8th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Cabbage -
“We” as in TBL commenters a couple weeks ago. I can’t remember the exact details.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
The tie breaker should be the last team that made an open field tackle. Might have to go back 3 or 4 games to find one, though.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Brent and Herbie just answered the question. The tie-breaker is BCS standing. What a shitstorm that would be.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Goodnight kids, time to take out my teeth and go to sleep.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/columns/story?columnist=mcshay_todd&id=3686211
Harrell is the 6th (!) ranked quarterback and not in the top 64 overall.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
weis will get next year minimum to get the program squarely into the top 25
November 8th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
KC, can OU play even a little bit of D?
2 weeks to prepare. Home game. The team has been in big games. This is all new to Tech. Ou in a waltz. ANd I love me some Tech, but the dream sort of ends in Norman.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
has he ever taken a snap from under center? dude is a great college qb but so were kingsbury and symons
November 8th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
TT has two weeks too and has just won two huge games in a row
November 8th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Graham Harrell isn’t Kliff Kingsbury, BJ Symons or Sonny Cumbie. He’s legit.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Road game in Norman, I’m assuming at night. If Tech wins…
I agree with Fetch. Harrell is not the typical Tech QB. This guy is good. Going to be a hell of a game.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
He’s only the 3rd highest from the Big 12 on that list. Crazy
November 9th, 2008 at 3:41 am
1. Matt Stafford
2. Graham Harrell
3. Sam Bradford
4. Tim Tebow
5. Chase Daniel
6. Mark Sanchez
7. Hunter Cantwell
8. Curtis Painter
9. Rhett Bomar
10. Colt McCoy
