Sunday night, NASCAR got dissed by ABC. Hard.

With a race running late, ABC bailed in favor of America’s Funniest Home Videos. The race got switched to ESPN2. Dozens of irate NASCAR fans were furious.

The Orlando Sentinel called it “bush league.” The Dallas Morning News said Funniest Home Videos has “no redeeming social significance,” which must mean Barry Horn thinks NASCAR does have redeeming social significance.

Third place finisher Jamie McMurray said, “I mean, maybe if the President was going to talk; maybe if something big happened. But I can’t believe that America’s Funniest Home Videos would take priority over us. I mean, I like that show. But I’d rather watch the race.”

The winner, Jimmie Johnson, summed it up thusly: “… to go to America’s Funniest Home Videos, that one hurts (laughter), no doubt. I thought we have a lot of characters. Why do we need that show?”

No reaction from this peanut gallery. Obviously, ABC screwed up. We’d be more fired up if an Arena League Game (is that even still around?) went long and interrupted the Fresh Prince of Bel Air episode where Will Smith got shot and then got emotional in the hospital when Carlton got strapped; or the if we had to miss the Charles in Charge theme song (featuring Nicole Eggert!).

Guess the only question is: America’s Funniest Home Videos is still on the air? How? How can Bob Saget still host a show after he went and got all raunchy? Remember his hilarious cameo on Entourage? And if Saget’s not hosting the show anymore - we refuse to take the .06 seconds to look it up - why is it still on the air?
