This is truly awesome news. Florida State safety, and Rhodes Scholar finalist, Myron Rolle will have a chance to excel both academically and athletically on November 22nd thanks to his coaches, ESPN, and the NCAA.

On the 22nd, he’ll be participating in the finals for the Rhodes Scholarship in Alabama and then he’ll fly to Maryland as his teammates take on the Terrapins in a key ACC game. The winners of the scholarship will be announced at 6pm, which made playing in a college football game on the same day a bit tricky. Luckily, everyone involved decided to actually do the right thing.

When Rolle approached his coaches about the opportunity, they supported him.

“We couldn’t be more proud of this happening for one of our players,” FSU coach Bobby Bowden said Wednesday. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance and you wouldn’t dare deny him that. I just hope he wins it.”

ESPN did their part (intentionally or not) by scheduling the game for primetime with a 7:45pm kickoff.

Then the final piece of the puzzle was put into place when the usually strict and unfeeling NCAA giving FSU permission to fly Rolle to the Maryland game by private plane or charter. Hooray for common sense and rewarding kids who do the right thing! If all goes well, Rolle should be with his team by halftime.
