Who Are the Writers Who Voted Volquez Rookie of the Year, Even Though He’s No Rookie?
1-liner, Baseball November 12th. 2008, 9:45amUh, He’s Not a Rookie: “Edinson Volquez appears on three NL Rookie of the Year ballots, even though he’s not a rookie. It wasn’t even something esoteric like the days-on-the-roster rule; he threw 80 innings for Texas prior to 2008, and the cutoff is 50. I think the truth about my rejected membership is that I failed the board’s intelligence test – I have some. The three voters who included Volquez were Jeremy Cothran of the Newark Star-Ledger, John Klima of the Los Angeles Daily News, and Jay Paris of the North County Times in San Diego.” (The Dish)

Well, they’d never heard his name before this year. Isn’t that the same thing as being a rookie?

“Who gives a shit? It’s fucking rookie of the year voting. You guys are making too much of this.”

About one of the voters for Volquez:
So they let a soccer fan vote for these things – what’s the big deal?

Jeremy Cothran is Ty Duffy

He went out of his way on his own blog to point out he doesn’t give any money to his alma mater. That’s messed up.

Ty Duffy>>>>>>>> ass hat MLB voters.
Seriously. Baseball has some serious voting issues as far as it’s awards go. Remember a few years ago when Justin Morneau won the MVP, then it was revealed that someone who wrote in Chicago had put only AL Central players on his ballot and didn’t include Jeter (who finished 2nd). Sometimes these awards are jokes.

Who gives money to their Alma maters? How rich are you people?
November 12th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Baseball writers are the most petty people in sports. Like the year Ted Williams won the Triple Crown and lost the MVP to DiMaggio by one vote because a writer left him off his ballot completely.
More and more fans are trying to move towards unbiased statistical analysis, but the fact remains that most of the people who cover the game are going to vote for whoever they like the most.

Speaking of baseball awards, do you think this comment comes back to bite Pujols this year?

@ St. Bear: statistically speaking, who is the AL MVP?
November 12th, 2008 at 10:20 am
I should defer that question to one of the Jerks (ie Nick).
Alex Rodriguez leads the league in VORP, but he missed alot of games. Mauer and Morneau are 1-2 in Win Shares (that surprised me). I like Sizemore. He’s 2nd in VORP and 3rd in Win Shares all while playing stellar defense.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:22 am
*Sizemore is 4th in Win Shares
/that’s why I should have let Nick answer
November 12th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Maybe we should just set up a computer like the BCS to pump out who the statistical MVPs and Cy Youngs are each year.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:30 am
if you have to go farther than the standard stats to build your argument a certain player should win an award, they should win it in the first place.

ryan braun had 0 errors in 2008, so he should have won a gold glove
